The OnePlus 16 will be unveiled in China on 12 October 2026, and it is unlikely to go on sale officially in Europe. OnePlus has already confirmed the essentials: a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip, a 165Hz display that climbs to 185Hz in games, a 200MP main sensor and four configurations topping out at 16GB of RAM and 1TB. With a battery quoted at 9,000 mAh, it is aimed at heavy users and gamers. The price is still unknown, and buying one from Paris, Lagos or Nairobi will mean going through importers.
Introduction: the OnePlus 16, a flagship that may never leave China
Every autumn, OnePlus is among the first to ship a high-end phone with Qualcomm’s latest chip. The OnePlus 15 was unveiled in China on 27 October 2025 from 3,999 yuan, then launched in Europe in November from €949 (about 623,000 FCFA) for the 12GB + 256GB model. Its successor brings the schedule forward by two weeks.
The backdrop, however, looks completely different. In mid-July 2026, OnePlus confirmed it would no longer launch new products in Europe or North America. That makes the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus 15R the last models sold officially in France and the rest of Europe. Oppo, the parent company, is taking over after-sales service and updates for existing devices.
So the OnePlus 16 arrives as a Chinese phone. This page separates what is official, what has leaked and what nobody knows yet. We have not had the device in hand: we will update this page after 12 October, and again once the first reviews are out.
Verdict at a glance: a heavyweight on paper, but out of reach in Europe
Awaiting review — On paper, the OnePlus 16 pairs Qualcomm’s fastest chip with a 185Hz gaming display and a 9,000 mAh battery. Its main weakness is distribution: it will be sold in China, with no European warranty and no OxygenOS.
- Who it is for: Gamers and heavy users who are willing to import a Chinese phone and do without a local warranty.
- Avoid if: You want a straightforward purchase in Europe, after-sales support nearby or Google services installed out of the box.
What looks promising:
- Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 confirmed
- 165Hz display, up to 185Hz in games
- Battery quoted at 9,000 mAh
Still to be confirmed:
- No official release in Europe
- A steep price rise, according to leaks
- Chinese version running ColorOS, with no local warranty

Three numbers sum up the phone. The 185Hz gaming mode is official and puts the screen on a par with the best gaming smartphones. The 200MP main sensor marks a real change of direction for photography. And the 9,000 mAh battery, shown during the Chinese pre-orders according to Gizmochina, is 1,700 mAh more than the OnePlus 15.
Here is how the brand’s announcements stack up against the information circulating without confirmation:
- Confirmed by OnePlus: the 12 October date, Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, 165Hz across the system and native 185Hz in a selection of games, a new-generation Fengchi gaming core, three dedicated chips for networking, touch and display, a 200MP main sensor, a 50MP periscope telephoto, three colours, four memory configurations and a customisable AI button on the left edge.
- Shown during pre-orders, according to the press: a 9,000 mAh battery, 100W wired and 50W wireless charging, and a power management chip designed by Oppo.
- Leaks from Digital Chat Station and the tech press: a flat 6.78-inch 1.5K BOE X4 screen, a 50MP ultra-wide, a 50MP selfie camera with autofocus, and ColorOS 17 based on Android 17.
- Still unknown: official price, water resistance rating, thickness, weight, update policy and any launch outside China.
OnePlus 16 release date: 12 October in China
A date set at OnePlus’s gaming conference
On 28 September, Li Jie (Louis Lee), president of OnePlus China, set the launch for 12 October 2026 at the brand’s annual gaming conference. So 28 September was not the launch itself, just the day the schedule was announced.
No-commitment pre-orders have been open since 21 September on the brand’s Chinese website. The OnePlus China homepage is already inviting visitors to reserve the device.
What about Europe and Africa?
There is no date, and there probably won’t be one. OnePlus said it had decided, “after a thorough evaluation”, to stop launching new products in Europe and North America. After twelve years in Europe, this is the brand’s first flagship to skip France and its European neighbours.
Even India, historically OnePlus’s second market, is not guaranteed. According to leaker Yogesh Brar, quoted by 91mobiles, the brand may instead bet on a OnePlus 16R as its flagship there. OnePlus has confirmed nothing.
Design: the OnePlus 16 keeps a square camera block and gains an AI button
OnePlus is sticking with the look introduced on the OnePlus 15. The square metal camera module, with rounded corners, sits in the top left of the back and houses the three sensors and the flash. The frame is flat and the corners are generously rounded.
Three finishes have been announced: Tomorrow Starlight, Dark Forest and Martian Masterpiece. The light version gets glass treated to resist fingerprints. According to the press, it also has a “breathing” light on the back that makes the logo and a set of celestial coordinates glow.
On the left edge sits a customisable button, which OnePlus presents as an AI key. The Chinese press mentions nine assignable functions. It follows on from the Plus Key, which had already replaced the brand’s famous alert slider.
Two unknowns matter: weight and water resistance. The OnePlus 15 carried IP66, IP68 and IP69K ratings, which is very reassuring against dust and rain. With 1,700 mAh more on board, the OnePlus 16 is likely to be a little heavier and thicker than its predecessor. Weight, thickness and IP rating should be confirmed at the 12 October launch.
Display: the OnePlus 16 runs at 165Hz everywhere, 185Hz for gaming
This is one of OnePlus’s headline features. The panel runs at 165Hz across the whole system, as on the OnePlus 15, and climbs to a native 185Hz in optimised games. The brand names Peace Elite (the Chinese version of PUBG Mobile), Arena Breakout, Nizhan: Future and Naruto Mobile.
That figure needs some context. Only supported games will run at 185 frames per second, and mainly in China, where these partnerships are negotiated. Elsewhere, many titles are still capped at 60, 90 or 120 frames per second.
For everything else, we are relying on leaks. Digital Chat Station points to a flat 6.78-inch OLED screen at 1.5K resolution, supplied by BOE (X4 panel), with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. The bezels would be even thinner than the 1.15 mm on the OnePlus 15. Peak brightness has not leaked, and the brand has not confirmed an LTPO panel.
Performance: the OnePlus 16 among the first with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6
Qualcomm’s fastest chip
Qualcomm unveiled its new generation of flagship chips at the end of September 2026. The Extreme variant, built on a 2 nm process, is the most powerful: it breaks the 5 GHz barrier and adds graphics features exclusive to this version. The OnePlus 16 will be one of the first phones to use it, alongside the RedMagic 12 Pro+.
A first score has leaked. According to Notebookcheck, a model numbered PYB110, identified as the OnePlus 16, scored 5,384,433 points on AnTuTu 12 with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. For comparison, a Lenovo tablet running the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 topped out at around 4.59 million on the same version of the benchmark.
OnePlus 16 memory and storage
Four configurations are official:
- 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage;
- 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage;
- 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage;
- 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
The AnTuTu listing shows LPDDR5X and UFS 4.1, not the LPDDR6 the chip can handle. It is an understandable saving at a time when memory prices are soaring, as we explained in our article on the RAM shortage and DDR5 prices. In everyday use, the difference will be hard to notice.
Gaming: the Fengchi core and three dedicated chips
Unlike RedMagic, OnePlus is not betting on a fan. The brand relies on software tuning with its Fengchi gaming core, reworked for this generation, and on three in-house chips: one for networking, one for touch response and one for the display. Only reviews will tell how this passive cooling holds up over long sessions.
Camera: the OnePlus 16 moves to 200MP
After the Hasselblad partnership ended with the OnePlus 15, OnePlus is rethinking its approach. The main sensor jumps from 50MP to 200MP, in a 1/1.4-inch format, with an f/1.6 aperture according to the press. A sensor this large allows clean crops and should handle light better than the previous module.

The 50MP periscope telephoto is official too. Leaks mention a 1/1.95-inch Sony sensor and 3x optical zoom. The 50MP ultra-wide and the 50MP autofocus selfie camera come from Digital Chat Station and still need confirming. The OnePlus 15 made do with 32MP on the front.
The press also mentions a Master mode and a 65:24 panoramic format. The chip can record 8K video at 60 frames per second, but OnePlus has not said whether it will enable it. Video modes should be confirmed at the 12 October launch.
Good to know — a spec sheet does not make a great camera phone. OnePlus’s image processing has often been seen as less natural than Google’s or Apple’s. Wait for night-time and backlit comparisons before judging this 200MP module.
Battery and charging: the OnePlus 16 battery grows to 9,000 mAh
9,000 mAh, a 23% jump
The OnePlus 15 already made a strong impression with 7,300 mAh. Its successor would move to 9,000 mAh, split across two cells. According to Digital Chat Station, each cell has a minimum rated capacity of 4,390 mAh, or about 8,780 mAh guaranteed. A power management chip designed by Oppo is meant to protect the battery over time.

With a 2 nm chip, two days of real-world use look achievable with moderate use. A reserve that size also helps you get through power cuts. Gaming at 185Hz, on the other hand, will drain the battery much faster.
Slower charging than the OnePlus 15
Wired charging would drop to 100W, down from 120W on the OnePlus 15. Wireless charging would stay at 50W. At 100W, a full charge should take a little under an hour by our estimate: OnePlus has shared neither an official charging time nor whether a charger comes in the box.
Software: ColorOS replaces OxygenOS
This is a big change for the brand’s loyal users. In July 2026, OnePlus dropped OxygenOS, its own interface, in favour of Oppo’s ColorOS. The OnePlus 16 will therefore run ColorOS 17, based on Android 17, in its Chinese version.
Chinese ROMs usually ship without Google services: you can often add them, but Google Wallet, some banking apps or Gemini features may cause trouble. The brand has not confirmed whether French will be among the system languages, nor whether the Play Store will be included.
The update policy is unknown. For the OnePlus 15, the brand promised four major Android versions and six years of security patches in Europe. Nothing suggests a model imported from China will get the same support, or on the same timeline.
OnePlus 16 price and availability in Europe
A price rise on the way
OnePlus has not announced a price. The OnePlusClub account, picked up by Gizmochina in early August, pointed to a sharp increase in China:
- 12GB + 256GB: 5,499 yuan, or about €706 (about 463,000 FCFA);
- 12GB + 512GB: 5,999 yuan, or about €770 (about 505,000 FCFA);
- 16GB + 1TB: 7,499 yuan, or about €963 (about 632,000 FCFA).
The same leak listed an 8GB + 256GB version at 4,999 yuan, but it is not among the four official configurations. The OnePlus 15 started at 3,999 yuan, or about €513 (about 337,000 FCFA). These conversions, at roughly 7.8 yuan to the euro, do not include VAT, shipping or importers’ margins.
Can you buy the OnePlus 16 in Europe?
Not through the usual channels. As of 1 October 2026, there is no OnePlus 16 listing on Amazon.fr, Fnac, Darty or Cdiscount in France, and the end of European operations makes one unlikely to appear. You will have to go through importers or marketplaces. In that case, expect the warranty to be handled by the seller rather than Oppo, and a Chinese ROM.
If you want a OnePlus sold officially in Europe, the OnePlus 15 remains available while stocks last, with after-sales service handled by Oppo. The Poco F9 Ultra, whose global launch we covered, is the other option, with a 185Hz screen and a 200MP sensor.
In West and Central Africa
OnePlus has never had an official network in Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire or Senegal. The OnePlus 16 will reach specialist resellers from China or Dubai, without a local manufacturer warranty. Before you buy, check the 4G and 5G bands of the Chinese version, in particular 800 MHz 4G (band 20), used in France and by several African operators: OnePlus has not yet published the bands for the Chinese version. Customs duties will also add to the bill.
Expected OnePlus 16 pros and cons

Detailed scores: awaiting review
We do not score a phone that has not been launched. Scores for the OnePlus 16 will come with the full spec sheet and the first published reviews, across six criteria: design, display, performance, battery life, camera and software.
Provisional take: if the promises hold, it should rank near the top for performance, display and battery life. Software and availability, on the other hand, will weigh heavily against it for readers in Europe and Africa.
OnePlus 16 alternatives: what to buy in the meantime?
The Poco F9 Ultra is the most logical alternative in Europe: a 185Hz screen, 200MP and official sales. The RedMagic 11S Pro, priced at €799 (about 524,000 FCFA), will suit gamers better thanks to its fan and shoulder triggers. Finally, the RedMagic 12 Pro+, launching on 15 October, will share the same chip. Gamers can also look at the ROG Phone 9 Pro versus RedMagic 11 Pro matchup and our ROG Phone 9 Pro page.
Conclusion: should you wait for the OnePlus 16?
On paper, the OnePlus 16 has everything of a big late-2026 flagship: a cutting-edge chip, a 185Hz screen, 9,000 mAh and, at last, an ambitious camera module. It is probably one of the longest-lasting phones of its generation.
But for readers in Europe or Africa, the real question is no longer technical. With no official launch, you will have to import it, accept a Chinese ROM and give up a local warranty. If you want a phone that is easy to buy and get repaired, look instead at the OnePlus 15 while it is still in stock, or at a model sold officially in your country.
Good to know — if you already own a OnePlus bought in France or elsewhere in Europe, nothing changes for you: Oppo is taking over the warranty and the promised updates, with a switch from OxygenOS to ColorOS at the next major version.
Frequently asked questions
What is the OnePlus 16 release date?
The OnePlus 16 will be unveiled in China on 12 October 2026. The date was announced on 28 September by Li Jie, president of OnePlus China, at the brand’s gaming conference. No date is planned for Europe, since OnePlus stopped launching new products there in July 2026, and India remains uncertain.
How much will the OnePlus 16 cost in Europe?
There will be no official European price, as there is no launch in Europe. In China, leaks reported by Gizmochina point to 5,499 yuan for 12GB + 256GB, or about €706 (about 463,000 FCFA), and up to 7,499 yuan for 16GB + 1TB, or about €963 (about 632,000 FCFA). From an importer, add VAT, shipping and margin: a price close to the European OnePlus 15, or even higher, is likely.
Will the OnePlus 16 be sold in Europe?
Not officially. In mid-July 2026, OnePlus announced it would no longer launch new products in Europe and North America. The OnePlus 15 and OnePlus 15R are the last models sold in France and the rest of Europe. The OnePlus 16 will therefore only be available through importers, in its Chinese version running ColorOS, with a warranty provided by the seller rather than Oppo.
How big is the OnePlus 16 battery?
The OnePlus 16 has a 9,000 mAh battery, according to the information shown during the Chinese pre-orders and leaks from Digital Chat Station. That is 1,700 mAh more than the OnePlus 15. Wired charging would reach 100W, down from 120W, and wireless charging 50W. The final official figures will come on 12 October.
Can you buy the OnePlus 16 in Cameroon or Côte d’Ivoire?
Yes, but only through importers: OnePlus has no official distributor in West and Central Africa, and specialist resellers will bring it in from China or Dubai. Before buying, check the network bands of the Chinese version, whether the Play Store is available and what warranty the seller offers. Budget for customs duties too.
