The iQOO 16 is vivo’s most ambitious gaming phone yet, unveiled in China on September 29, 2026 with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and the first 2K 165 Hz display on the market. It also packs an 8,400 mAh battery, 100 W charging and three 50 MP cameras, without the flashy look of most gaming phones. On paper, it is one of the best picks of 2026 for long gaming sessions at high resolution. The catch lies elsewhere: as of October 1, it is only sold in China, and there is no date yet for India or Europe.

Introduction: the iQOO 16, vivo’s high-end gaming flagship

iQOO is the performance-focused brand of the vivo group. Its numbered flagship lands every autumn, right after Qualcomm’s new chips. The iQOO 15 kicked things off on October 20, 2025 in China, at 4,199 yuan. The iQOO 16 arrives three weeks earlier, just one week after Qualcomm announced its sixth-generation Snapdragon chips on September 22.

The price, however, has jumped. The entry model goes from 4,199 to 5,999 yuan, almost 43% more. Rising memory costs, which we cover in our article on the RAM shortage and DDR5 prices, explain a good part of the gap. The iQOO 16 is leaving affordable-flagship territory for the true high end.

Who is it for? Gamers who want a very sharp, fluid picture, big battery life and a phone that still looks sober at the office. It targets the same buyers as the RedMagic 11S Pro or the ROG Phone 9 Pro, but without a fan or shoulder triggers. Our team has not had the phone in hand: this page is based on vivo’s official data, the specialist press and our own analysis.

The data above comes from the official iQOO 16 page on vivo’s Chinese website, supplemented by the specialist press. Three numbers sum up this phone. The 2K 165 Hz panel is a world first, according to iQOO. The 8,400 mAh battery (8,170 mAh rated capacity) is 1,400 mAh bigger than the iQOO 15’s. And the chip scores over 5.57 million points on AnTuTu, according to figures shared at launch.

What is official and what still needs confirming:

  • Official on vivo’s Chinese website: chip, display, memory, battery, charging, camera sensors, weight and thickness by color, IP68 and IP69, OriginOS 7.
  • Reported by the press at launch: Android 17 as the base of OriginOS 7, Wi-Fi 7, USB 3.2 Gen 1, NFC and an infrared blaster.
  • Still unknown: detailed 4G and 5G bands, a global version, the update policy outside China, prices in India and Europe.

iQOO 16 design: a porthole camera, three colors and IP69

iQOO calls its camera module a “porthole of tomorrow”, inspired by spaceship windows. The block is more refined than on the iQOO 15, without the LED overload typical of gaming phones. The frame is metal, according to Telecomtalk.

Three colors are available in China. The version the English-language press calls Chasing Light (“Zhuguang”) has a holographic back with red and blue reflections. Track (“Saidao”) borrows from motorsport styling, while Legend (“Chuanqi”) plays it understated.

Weight and thickness vary with the finish. Track is the lightest, at 222.5 g and 8.3 mm. Legend weighs 227.9 g at 8.4 mm, and Chasing Light 229.8 g at 8.55 mm. For 8,400 mAh, that is restrained: the European RedMagic 11S Pro weighs 230 g at 8.9 mm, with a 7,500 mAh battery.

Protection is comprehensive: IP68 for immersion and IP69 for high-pressure hot water jets. For readers in Lagos, Accra or Douala, that is a real plus against dust, rain and humidity. The fingerprint reader is an ultrasonic under-display sensor, with a detection area 44% larger according to iQOO.

iQOO 16 display: 2K at 165 Hz, a smartphone first

The 6.85-inch panel uses Samsung’s M16 material, in LTPO OLED. Resolution reaches 3,168 x 1,440 pixels and the refresh rate 165 Hz, up from 144 Hz on the iQOO 15. Until now, you had to choose between 2K and the highest refresh rates, which were usually reserved for 1.5K screens.

The brightness figures are impressive: 2,800 nits full screen, 10,000 nits local peak and 1,100 nits in manual mode, according to Beebom. The color gamut covers 1.24 times the P3 space and every panel is factory-calibrated, according to the official page. In direct sunlight, readability should be excellent.

For eye comfort, iQOO announces DC dimming at every brightness level and 3,300 Hz PWM. Eyes sensitive to flicker should cope well. The brand also claims its 2K LEAD 2.0 technology uses 31% less power than a 1.5K panel, a promise that independent reviews will need to check.

iQOO 16 performance: Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Q4 chip

The most powerful version of Qualcomm’s chip

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 comes in two versions. The iQOO 16 uses the faster one, the 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 (SM8975), built on TSMC’s 2 nm process. Its two prime cores reach up to 5 GHz. According to Qualcomm, it delivers 13% more CPU and 44% more GPU performance than the previous generation.

Memory keeps pace: up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X Ultra Pro at 10,667 Mbps and up to 1 TB of UFS 4.1 storage. The AnTuTu score of over 5.57 million points, shared by iQOO, puts the phone at the very top. That kind of number measures raw power, though, not how well performance holds up over time.

An 8,500 mm² vapor chamber

There is no fan, unlike RedMagic phones. For everyday use, the chip is overkill anyway. iQOO relies on an 8,500 mm² vapor chamber and three layers of graphite, along with an in-house scheduler called “Monster Super Core Engine”. Heat during long gaming sessions is the point to watch in the first published reviews.

Gaming on the iQOO 16: 165 fps at 2K

This is where the iQOO 16 stands apart from other high-end phones. The brand does not stop at a powerful chip: it adds its own graphics coprocessor and specific tuning for the most popular games in China.

The Q4 chip and native 2K

The Q4 chip assists the Snapdragon with rendering. According to iQOO, the phone can run some games in native 2K at 165 frames per second, with no upscaling. More than 100 titles are said to support 165 fps, and 13 would get “true 2K super-resolution”.

What iQOO promises gamers:

  • Ray tracing in more than ten games, thanks to the QNSS rendering engine and a virtual light source technique.
  • Q-flex technology: touch latency cut by 28% at 165 Hz, with 5,000 Hz instant touch sampling.
  • A 500 Hz gyroscope, with error reportedly down 83.3%, useful in shooters where you aim by tilting the phone.
  • 8K in-game screenshots and live streaming at 165 fps.
  • Two-axis (X and Z) haptic motor and improved stereo speakers.

What it lacks compared with dedicated gaming phones

The iQOO 16 has no physical or capacitive shoulder triggers, no fan and no second USB-C port on the side. For hours of landscape play with a cable plugged in, a ROG Phone or a RedMagic remains more comfortable, as both are built around those accessories.

A limitation for gamers outside China

The Q4 chip’s optimizations target Chinese games first. There is no guarantee that the global versions of these titles, or games popular in Africa such as Free Fire and eFootball, will all benefit. The Chinese version is still perfectly fine for emulation and cloud gaming.

Good to know — The gaming figures (165 fps, ray tracing, latency) come from iQOO. No independent test of frame rates over long sessions had been published as of October 1, 2026.

Camera: three 50 MP sensors, including a periscope

The camera setup is serious for a phone designed for gaming. The 50 MP main sensor measures 1/1.3 inch, has an f/1.68 aperture and optical stabilization. The press identifies it as an OmniVision OV50Q.

illustration-photo-24 iQOO 16: specs, price, availability and our take
Illustrative photo, not taken with the iQOO 16. Credit: Israel Sundseth / StockSnap (CC0)

The 50 MP periscope telephoto (1/1.95-inch Sony sensor, f/2.65) offers 3x optical zoom, a claimed 6x lossless zoom and up to 100x digital. The 50 MP ultrawide uses a smaller 1/2.75-inch sensor. On the front, there is a 32 MP camera.

In daylight, this trio should deliver detailed images and flattering 3x portraits. At night, the large main sensor is a good sign, but the ultrawide may fall behind. Video goes up to 8K. Matching vivo’s X series is far from a given.

iQOO 16 battery and charging: 8,400 mAh and 100 W

The fifth-generation silicon-carbon battery is rated at 8,400 mAh, or 31.34 Wh. That is 1,400 mAh more than the iQOO 15. With a 2K 165 Hz screen, part of that gain will go toward offsetting the panel’s power draw.

illustration-recharge-8 iQOO 16: specs, price, availability and our take
Illustrative image: this is not the iQOO 16. Credit: rawpixel (CC0)

For everyday use, two days is a reasonable expectation. In heavy gaming, the battery should last several hours longer than a typical 5,000 mAh flagship. With frequent power cuts in West and Central Africa, that capacity is a very concrete argument.

100 W wired charging should fill the battery in under an hour, and wireless charging reaches 40 W. iQOO also mentions a bypass charging system, which avoids heating the battery while you play plugged in. Check the charger that comes with an imported unit: it will have a Chinese plug.

Software: OriginOS 7 on Android 17

The iQOO 16 runs OriginOS 7, based on Android 17 according to the press. The interface includes the Xiao V assistant and the Atomic Workbench multitasking space. iQOO promises “six years of smoothness”, which is not the same as six years of Android updates.

The tricky part concerns imported units. The Chinese version of OriginOS is designed for the Chinese ecosystem. Resellers usually install the Play Store, but the interface, preinstalled apps and some AI features remain China-focused. A global version would fix this, if one ever comes out.

iQOO 16 price and availability: China first

iQOO 16 price in China

The phone has been on sale in China since its September 29, 2026 launch. Here are the official prices, converted at an approximate exchange rate (1 yuan for about €0.125), excluding import fees and European VAT:

  • 12 + 256 GB: 5,999 yuan, or about €750 (about 492,000 FCFA).
  • 12 + 512 GB: 6,799 yuan, or about €850 (about 558,000 FCFA).
  • 16 + 512 GB: 7,499 yuan, or about €940 (about 617,000 FCFA).
  • 16 GB + 1 TB: 8,499 yuan, or about €1,060 (about 695,000 FCFA).

iQOO 16 in India: nothing official

India is iQOO’s biggest market outside China. The iQOO 15 arrived there on December 1, 2025, at ₹72,999, or about €705 (about 462,000 FCFA). For the iQOO 16, the signals are contradictory. A model numbered I2601, presented as the Indian or global version, showed up in the IMEI database as early as May.

In July, however, leaker Yogesh Brar claimed the phone might not launch in India this year because of memory costs. In mid-September, Telecomtalk suggested the opposite, with a possible Indian launch in October. As of October 1, 2026, iQOO India has confirmed nothing: no date, no price.

iQOO 16 in Europe: import only

iQOO does not sell its phones in France or elsewhere in Europe, and no European launch has been announced. Gizmochina mentions an EEC certification, but that acronym refers to the Eurasian Economic Union (Russia and neighboring countries), not the European Union. We found no product listing at Amazon.fr, Fnac, Darty or Cdiscount in France as of October 1.

That leaves importing, through sites such as TradingShenzhen or Giztop. In 2025, the iQOO 15 was listed there from €597 (about 392,000 FCFA). Applying the same gap, our team estimates an imported iQOO 16 at around €850 (about 558,000 FCFA) for the 12 + 256 GB model. This is an estimate, not an announced price: check the reseller’s current price.

In Africa

To our knowledge, iQOO has no official distribution in Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire or Senegal. The few units available will come through resellers importing from China or Dubai, with no manufacturer warranty: if something breaks, there is no local vivo after-sales service. The 4G and 5G bands of the Chinese version have not been detailed yet. Check compatibility with your carrier before buying.

If you want a gaming phone with a warranty in Europe, the RedMagic 11S Pro starts at €799 (about 524,000 FCFA) in France, with a built-in fan. The ROG Phone 9 Pro brings shoulder triggers and Asus’s accessory ecosystem. The Poco F9 Ultra, sold officially in Europe, offers a 185 Hz screen, as covered in our article on the global launch of the Poco F9 series. For the same chip as the iQOO 16, also keep an eye on the RedMagic 12 Pro+ and the OnePlus 16.

Conclusion: should you buy the iQOO 16?

On the spec sheet, the iQOO 16 comes close to perfect. It combines Qualcomm’s fastest chip, a screen no one else offers yet, a huge battery and genuine water resistance, in a reasonable size. It is probably the best balance of 2026 between a gaming phone and an everyday smartphone.

But we do not recommend it yet to readers in Europe or Africa. Without official distribution, you pay top price for Chinese software with no local warranty. If you can wait, hold out for a possible global version. If you want to play now, a RedMagic or a ROG Phone sold in Europe is the safer bet.

Good to know — If you import the iQOO 16, choose a seller who specifies the software version, the supported network bands and the return policy. Plan for an adapter for the charger’s Chinese plug.

Frequently asked questions

What is the iQOO 16 price in Europe?

There is no official European price, because iQOO does not sell its phones in France or the rest of Europe. In China, the iQOO 16 starts at 5,999 yuan, or about €750 (about 492,000 FCFA) at the exchange rate. Imported, with fees and VAT included, our team estimates it at around €850 (about 558,000 FCFA) for the 12 + 256 GB model, based on the gap seen with the iQOO 15. Expect more for the 512 GB and 1 TB versions, which reach 8,499 yuan in China.

When will the iQOO 16 launch in India?

No date has been confirmed as of October 1, 2026. A model numbered I2601, presented as the Indian or global version, went through the IMEI database, which shows iQOO is preparing a variant. But a leaker claimed in July that the Indian launch could be cancelled because of memory costs. For reference, the iQOO 15 reached India a month and a half after China, at ₹72,999. An announcement before the end of the year is still possible.

Is the iQOO 16 waterproof?

Yes. The iQOO 16 is rated IP68 and IP69 under the Chinese GB/T 4208-2017 standard. IP68 covers prolonged immersion and dust, IP69 high-pressure hot water jets. In practice, it can handle rain, a drop in fresh water and dust, an asset in hot and dusty regions. Warranties generally do not cover water damage.

Does the iQOO 16 run Android 17?

Yes. According to the specialist press, the phone ships with OriginOS 7, based on Android 17. The version sold in China is designed for Chinese services. Importers usually install the Play Store, but some features, such as the Xiao V assistant, remain China-focused. iQOO promises “six years of smoothness”, with no public commitment on the number of Android updates for a possible global version.

Does the iQOO 16 work in Africa?

It should work on 4G with most carriers, but the network bands of the Chinese version have not been published in detail yet. Before buying, ask the reseller for the band list and compare it with your carrier’s. iQOO has no official distribution in Africa: no local vivo warranty or after-sales service. On the other hand, the IP68 and IP69 ratings and the 8,400 mAh battery are well suited to the climate and to power cuts.
