The Vivo X500 Pro Max is vivo’s new flagship camera phone, unveiled in Shanghai on 21 September 2026 with MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600 Pro chip, a 200 MP Zeiss telephoto and an 8,000 mAh battery. It has been on sale in China since 24 September from 6,999 yuan, roughly €875 (about 574,000 FCFA) at the current exchange rate. The first published reviews rank it among the best phones of the year for zoom and video. Europe will have to wait until 27 October to learn its price, and will get a noticeably smaller battery than the Chinese model.

Introduction: the Vivo X500 Pro Max, the new top of the X series

Vivo has skipped a few numbers. After the X300 phones of autumn 2025, the brand jumps straight to the X500 series, which comes in three models: the Vivo X500, the X500 Pro and, for the first time, a Pro Max. The latter sits at the top of the range with the largest display, the biggest battery and the only 200 MP telephoto of the three.

The line-up has been reshuffled. Until now, the Pro was the big phone of the family. This year the X500 Pro becomes a compact 6.36-inch flagship, and the Vivo X500 Pro Max takes over as the large 6.85-inch camera phone. That puts it up against the Oppo Find X10 Pro Max and the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, its two Chinese rivals this autumn.

Who is the Vivo X500 Pro Max for? People who shoot a lot of photos and video, especially at the long end: portraits, concerts, sport, travel. Our newsroom has not handled the phone. This page draws on the data released by vivo, on the reviews and hands-on reports published since launch, and on our own analysis.

Three figures sum up the Vivo X500 Pro Max. The 200 MP telephoto sits on a 1/1.4-inch sensor, a size many rivals keep for their main camera. The battery reaches 8,000 mAh in a body less than 8.2 mm thick, thanks to silicon-carbon chemistry. And the display resolution climbs to 3,168 x 1,440 pixels, against 1.5K on the X300 Pro.

Vivo X500 Pro Max design: big, flat and top-heavy

The Vivo X500 Pro Max measures 163.32 x 76.82 mm. Thickness and weight depend on the colour: 7.95 mm and 225 g for the black version, which has a fibreglass back, against 8.12 mm and 229 g for the white, grey and orange versions, which get an anti-glare frosted glass back. These measurements come from Tech Edition’s review.

This is an unapologetically large phone. The display is flat, the frame is metal and the circular camera module takes up a good share of the back. Lowyat, which has handled the device, describes it as chunky and distinctly top-heavy: laid on a table, it does not sit flat. A case will ease the problem.

IP68 and IP69: an asset in the tropics

The chassis is rated IP68 and IP69. The first covers immersion in fresh water, the second high-pressure jets of hot water. Across West and Central Africa, a tropical downpour or dry-season dust should therefore be no particular worry.

The display glass is vivo’s own Armor Glass, according to Tech Edition, and the 3D ultrasonic fingerprint reader sits under the panel. The European EPREL listing only mentions IP68, according to press reports, so IP69 on the version sold in Europe remains to be confirmed.

Display: a 6.85-inch 2K panel at 144 Hz

The Vivo X500 Pro Max has a 6.85-inch LTPO AMOLED panel at 3,168 x 1,440 pixels, or 507 pixels per inch. The refresh rate ranges from 1 to 144 Hz depending on what is on screen, which saves power on a static page and smooths out compatible games. Vivo calls it Zeiss Master Color and highlights a new luminescent material, Q11.

Claimed peak brightness reaches 4,500 nits. Tech Edition quotes 4,400 nits over 20% of the surface. In direct sunlight that leaves a comfortable margin: the display should stay readable at midday under a Sahel sky.

Eye comfort and HDR

At the other end of the scale, the panel drops to 1 nit through a hardware setting. Vivo adds circular polarisation and an SGS low blue light certification, promises that are hard to check without measurements.

Dolby Vision and HDR10+ are supported, and the flat panel makes it easy to fit a tempered glass protector.

Performance: a first outing for the Dimensity 9600 Pro

The X500 Pro and the Vivo X500 Pro Max are the first phones to ship with the Dimensity 9600 Pro, announced by MediaTek on 15 September 2026. The chip is built on TSMC’s 2 nm process. It combines eight Arm C2 cores, all of them big cores, split into three clusters (2 + 3 + 3), with a twelve-core Mali-G2 Ultra NX graphics unit.

MediaTek claims up to 17% more single-core performance, 15% more multi-core and 27% more peak graphics power than the previous generation. The Vivo X500 Pro Max pairs it with 12 or 16 GB of LPDDR5X Ultra memory and 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB of UFS 4.1 storage.

Published scores and heat while gaming

Tech Edition recorded 3,070 points single-core and 10,109 points multi-core in Geekbench 7. Kimovil lists around 4.58 million points in AnTuTu 12, a figure to treat with caution.

The weak spot is sustained graphics performance. In the 3DMark Steel Nomad Light stress test, the same outlet measured stability of just 55%: the chip quickly cuts its power to keep heat in check. The back peaks at 41 °C, which remains reasonable. The Vivo X500 Pro Max therefore suits short sessions better than long stretches of Genshin Impact at maximum settings. Gamers will look instead at the iQOO 16, from the same group.

Camera: the Vivo X500 Pro Max bets everything on the telephoto

Vivo and Zeiss have worked together since late 2020, and the X series is their showcase. The rear block of the Vivo X500 Pro Max holds three cameras: a 50 MP wide, a 200 MP periscope and a 50 MP ultra-wide.

illustration-photo-13 Vivo X500 Pro Max: specs, price, European release and review

Main sensor: the Sony LYTIA 910 and its 17 EV

The main module uses a 50 MP, 1/1.28-inch sensor, the LYTIA 910, developed with Sony. It sits behind a 24 mm equivalent lens with an f/1.57 aperture. Vivo claims 17 EV of dynamic range: in plain terms, the sensor holds detail in a very bright sky and in the shadows at the same time. Optical stabilisation compensates for up to 3 degrees of movement, rather like a small gimbal.

According to Tech Edition, daytime photos are clean, with well-controlled highlights and restrained colours, more sober than on some rivals. At night, still subjects come out sharp and detailed. Long exposures, on the other hand, produce ghosting when the subject moves.

200 MP Zeiss APO telephoto: the real selling point

The periscope is built around a 200 MP, 1/1.4-inch Samsung HP0 sensor, with an 85 mm lens at f/2.67. That works out to 3.5x optical zoom. Stabilisation is certified CIPA 7.0, and the sensor allows a 4x crop with no notable loss, according to vivo.

This is what reviewers praise most. Tech Edition rates the 85 mm as excellent for portraits and architecture, with crops to 135 mm still usable. Lowyat talks of genuinely impressive images and good colour consistency across the three rear cameras. The same outlet reports a few focus misses and one crash of the camera app.

To go further, vivo sells a Zeiss G2 Ultra teleconverter that takes the focal length to 400 mm. In China, a creator kit at 12,999 yuan, roughly €1,625 (about 1,066,000 FCFA), adds eighteen accessories, according to GSMArena.

Video, ultra-wide and selfies

Video is the other priority. The Vivo X500 Pro Max shoots 8K at 30 frames per second, 4K at 120 frames per second in 10-bit Log, and offers 4K slow motion at 240 frames per second. A 10-bit 4:2:2 Log mode makes use of the sensor’s 17 EV, for those who grade their footage.

Tech Edition notes effective stabilisation while walking, with no shake or warping in the corners. The ultra-wide (Samsung JN5, f/2.0) and the front camera (Samsung JN1, 50 MP, f/2.0) are more conventional. Selfies also look different from what the rear cameras produce, and portrait mode smooths faces too much for Tech Edition’s taste.

Battery and charging: 8,000 mAh in China, less in Europe

In China, the Vivo X500 Pro Max packs 8,000 mAh, the biggest battery vivo has ever fitted to a phone, according to Android Central. The brand talks of three days of use. Two full days of mixed use is a more realistic expectation. Tech Edition confirms that the phone gets through a heavy day without a top-up.

Illustrative image: this is not the Vivo X500 Pro Max. Credit: rawpixel (CC0)

A European battery cut down to size

The international version will not have the same capacity. The European EPREL database, which records energy labels, gives model V2610 a rated battery capacity of 6,570 mAh, or around 6,800 mAh typical. The unit reviewed by Tech Edition, for its part, showed 7,800 mAh, which suggests that capacity varies by region.

Good to know — In Europe, the Vivo X500 Pro Max would lose around 1,200 mAh compared with the Chinese model, according to the EPREL database. The listing still credits it with 72 hours and 5 minutes of endurance per cycle and energy class A.

90 W wired charging, 40 W wireless

Wired charging goes up to 90 W and wireless charging to 40 W, with the brand’s second-generation wireless charger. The full charging time has not been reported by the press.

In China, the 90 W charger comes in the box. GSMArena thinks the European box is likely to ship without one. Where power cuts are part of daily life, a reserve this size is a real comfort.

Software: OriginOS 7 and Android 17

The Vivo X500 Pro Max runs OriginOS 7, based on Android 17. Since the X300 series, vivo has used this interface outside China too. The international version includes Google services and few preinstalled apps, according to Lowyat. The Chinese version ships without the Play Store.

Tech Edition describes a smooth, responsive interface. It includes productivity tools (Origin Workbench, Snap Note, a voice recorder with AI transcription, an office suite) and Quick Share file sharing. AI editing features depend on region and language.

Updates: a commitment yet to be confirmed

GSMArena mentions up to five major Android updates. Vivo has not yet detailed its policy for Europe: that should come on 27 October. In any case, European rules require five years of updates after the end of sales for phones sold in the Union.

Vivo X500 Pro Max price and availability: China, Europe, France, Africa

In China, four versions of the Vivo X500 Pro Max have been on sale since 24 September 2026, in black, white, grey and orange:

  • 12 + 256 GB: 6,999 yuan, roughly €875 (about 574,000 FCFA);
  • 12 + 512 GB: 7,999 yuan, roughly €1,000 (about 656,000 FCFA);
  • 16 + 512 GB: 8,499 yuan, roughly €1,060 (about 695,000 FCFA);
  • 12 GB + 1 TB with satellite communication: 8,999 yuan, roughly €1,125 (about 738,000 FCFA).

These conversions are indicative, before VAT and import costs. Rising component costs are weighing on the whole range, as we explain in our article on the RAM shortage.

Vivo X500 Pro Max release date in Europe and France

Vivo has confirmed a European unveiling on 27 October 2026, with pre-orders opening the same day and sales starting on 5 November. Vivo’s European page for the X500 series promises up to €120 (about 79,000 FCFA) off for those who sign up. The Vivo X Fold 6, meanwhile, is already on sale in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

There is no official price in euros so far. As a reference point, the X300 Pro launched at €1,399 (about 918,000 FCFA) in Germany in autumn 2025. A higher price for the Vivo X500 Pro Max would come as no surprise. As for France, it does not appear among the countries named by the press: the announcements mostly mention Germany, Austria and Switzerland. We found no product listing at Amazon.fr, Fnac, Darty or Cdiscount.

What about Africa?

Vivo has announced nothing about the Vivo X500 Pro Max for Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire or Senegal. Buyers will have to import it, through a local reseller or a specialist site. In that case, go for the international version, which ships with Google services, and check the 4G and 5G bands with the seller before paying: the detailed list has not been published. The manufacturer’s warranty does not apply outside the country of purchase.

The standard X500 starts at 5,499 yuan in China, roughly €687 (about 451,000 FCFA), with a Dimensity 9600M and 7,500 mAh, but it is not part of the European plans. At Oppo, the Find X10 Pro Max plays the same big camera phone card. The previous generation is still an option too, starting with the Oppo Find X9 Pro, a rival to the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Conclusion: should you buy the Vivo X500 Pro Max?

On paper and judging by the first reports, the Vivo X500 Pro Max is one of the best camera phones of 2026. The 200 MP telephoto makes the difference, video is up to standard, and the display leaves nothing to regret.

Two reservations stop us from recommending it right away. The European battery loses a good part of what makes the Chinese model so appealing. And the price in euros is still unknown, as is the brand’s presence in France.

Good to know — Our advice: wait until 27 October. If vivo prices the phone close to the X300 Pro and confirms France, it will become a serious choice against the most expensive Galaxy and iPhone models. Otherwise, importing the international version will remain something for well-informed photo enthusiasts.

Nothing is confirmed for France. Vivo is holding a European unveiling on 27 October 2026, with sales from 5 November. The countries named by the press are Germany, Austria and Switzerland, where the brand already sells its products online. A buyer in France will probably have to go through a neighbouring country or an importer.

What are the Vivo X500 Pro Max specs?

The phone combines a 6.85-inch 2K LTPO AMOLED display at 144 Hz, the 2 nm Dimensity 9600 Pro chip, 12 or 16 GB of memory and up to 1 TB of storage. The camera system comprises a 50 MP main sensor, a 200 MP periscope telephoto and a 50 MP ultra-wide, all Zeiss-branded. The battery reaches 8,000 mAh in China, with 90 W wired and 40 W wireless charging.

The European EPREL database lists a rated capacity of 6,570 mAh for model V2610, or around 6,800 mAh typical, against 8,000 mAh for the Chinese model. The gap is around 1,200 mAh. Declared endurance remains high, at 72 hours and 5 minutes per cycle, with energy class A.

Is the Vivo X500 Pro Max the best camera phone of 2026?

It is one of the serious contenders, especially for zoom. Its 200 MP telephoto at 85 mm, stabilised and backed by a large sensor, is what the first reviews praise most. Full comparisons with the Oppo Find X10 Pro Max and the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max will be needed, though, before a winner can be named.
