How to Extend Your Smartwatch Battery Life
Smartwatches have become daily companions. Whether it’s tracking your physical activity, receiving notifications, or monitoring your health, they rarely leave your wrist. However, one issue keeps coming up: battery life. Here are 10 practical tips to extend the battery life of your smartwatch, regardless of the model.
1. Reduce Screen Brightness
AMOLED or OLED screens consume the most energy. Set brightness to automatic or manually choose a medium or low level.
2. Turn Off Always-On Display
The “Always-On” mode looks stylish but drains battery quickly. Disable it to easily gain 1–2 extra days of battery life.

3. Turn Off GPS When Not in Use
GPS consumes a lot of power, especially during workouts. Use it only during exercise sessions, or rely on your smartphone’s GPS if your watch allows it.
4. Limit Health Sensors
Heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, SpO2… very useful, but power-hungry. Activate these sensors only at night or on demand.
5. Reduce Notifications
Too many notifications mean too many vibrations, lights, and syncs. Filter which apps are allowed to send alerts to your watch.

6. Disable Unnecessary Connections (Wi-Fi, LTE, NFC)
If your watch supports Wi-Fi, LTE/4G, or NFC, turn them off when not needed. Enable airplane mode during sleep or in areas with no signal.
7. Limit Widgets and Animated Watch Faces
Interactive faces, weather animations, and real-time widgets drain more energy. Opt for a simple, static watch face.
8. Close Background Apps
Some apps continue running without your knowledge. Regularly close unused apps via your watch settings.
9. Keep Your Watch Updated
Software updates often include battery optimizations. Connect your watch regularly to its mobile app (Garmin Connect, Galaxy Wearable, Apple Watch, etc.).
10. Enable Power-Saving Mode
Most smartwatches offer a special mode that disables secondary features. Ideal at the end of the day or while traveling.
Charging Best Practices
- Avoid letting the battery drop below 10% too often (it wears the battery faster)
- Do not leave your watch charging overnight
- Recharge between 20% and 80% to preserve lithium-ion battery longevity
