Smart Switch is Samsung’s data transfer app. It’s what you use to move from an old phone to a new Galaxy device and bring most of your stuff along.
What Smart Switch is for
From another Android phone, you can transfer wirelessly or over a USB cable: contacts, calendar, texts, call logs, DRM-free photos, videos and music, memos, alarms, Wi-Fi networks and wallpaper. Between two Galaxy devices, Smart Switch also carries over app data and your home screen layout. Coming from an iPhone, you have three routes: a cable with a USB adapter, a wireless link set up by scanning a QR code shown on the Galaxy, or an import from iCloud. The app also helps you find your old apps, or similar ones, on Google Play. The desktop version, for Windows 10 or macOS 10.13 and later, backs up and restores a Galaxy device.
Who is it for?
Anyone buying a Samsung phone or tablet, whether they’re coming from another Android brand or from an iPhone. The desktop version is also handy for keeping a full backup before a repair or a factory reset.
Download Smart Switch safely
The mobile app is on Google Play, published by Samsung Electronics. The Windows and Mac versions are downloaded from the Smart Switch page on samsung.com. Each device needs at least 500 MB of free space for a transfer.
