Move to iOS is an Android app published by Apple. It has one purpose: copying what is on an Android phone over to an iPhone or iPad when you first set it up.
What Move to iOS is for
While setting up the iPhone, you pick the option to move data from Android. The iPhone then creates a private Wi-Fi network, the Move to iOS app finds it, and a security code shown on screen pairs the two devices. The transfer copies contacts, message history, photos and videos, calendars, mail accounts, call logs, voice memos and WhatsApp content. Free apps that are also on the App Store are offered for download. Location permission is needed to set up the Wi-Fi link; access to SMS or photos is only requested if you want to move them.
Who is it for?
Anyone switching from Android to iPhone. If the iPhone has already been set up, you will need to erase it and start again, or copy your data by hand. Paid apps, music, books and PDFs do not come across. Apple recommends keeping both devices close together and plugged in, and checking that the iPhone has enough free space.
