Apple unveiled the first touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro on October 28, 2026. It comes in 14- and 16-inch sizes with M5 Pro or M5 Max chips, a PROLED XDR display and a Dynamic Island borrowed from the iPhone. Pre-orders are open now, deliveries start on November 6, and the entry price climbs to $2,899. Here is what matters.

Touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro: what Apple announced

For years Apple insisted a touchscreen had no place on a Mac. That line has now changed. The new models pair a tandem OLED panel with touch input and a refreshed look, including the glowing Apple logo on the lid, back for the first time since 2016.

The PROLED XDR display measures 14.2 inches (3024 x 1986) or 16.3 inches (3472 x 2266). It runs at 120 Hz and peaks at 2,000 nits in HDR. A nano-texture finish is available as an option for $150 extra.

Chips, memory and storage

Apple stays with the M5 generation. The M5 Pro comes with 15 or 18 CPU cores and 16 or 20 GPU cores. The M5 Max offers 18 CPU cores and 32 or 40 GPU cores. Unified memory starts at 24 GB and tops out at 128 GB. Storage begins at 1 TB and now reaches 16 TB, double the old ceiling.

Mind the bill, though: the 16 TB upgrade on an M5 Max configuration alone costs $7,000, and a fully loaded 16-inch model hits $14,549.

US pricing

  • 14-inch M5 Pro: from $2,899
  • 16-inch M5 Pro: from $3,399
  • 14-inch M5 Max: from $4,499
  • 16-inch M5 Max: from $4,799

The entry 14-inch M5 Pro therefore jumps from $2,499 to $2,899. Apple has not shared European pricing yet; we will update this article once it does.

Dynamic Island comes to the Mac

This is the most visible change. The Dynamic Island, introduced on the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022, now sits in the notch area. It shows Live Activities, opens Spotlight and Siri, and lets you answer a call, control music or accept an AirDrop without leaving the app you are in. With the touchscreen, one tap pauses a song.

Do not expect Face ID: the TrueDepth system did not make the trip. The Mac keeps Touch ID and a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera.

macOS learns to be touched

Apple has not turned macOS into iPadOS. The tweaks are measured. The red, yellow and green window buttons grow when you touch them, you scroll by swiping, zoom by pinching and drag and drop with a finger. Developers can adapt their apps.

Apple’s stance stays careful. In an interview with Wired, John Ternus said the Mac remains first and foremost an indirect-input device, keyboard and trackpad first, while acknowledging touch can be useful. In other words, touch is added, nothing is replaced.

Ports, sound and battery life

Connectivity is unchanged: three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, an SD card slot and MagSafe 3. The M5 Pro drives up to three external displays, the M5 Max up to four.

Audio improves with a six-speaker system, bass that goes 50% deeper and a tuning mode for use with the lid closed. Weight ranges from about 3 lb (14-inch M5 Pro) to 4.1 lb (16-inch M5 Max). On battery life, MacRumors reports Apple’s figure is unchanged, up to 24 hours of streaming video on the 16-inch M5 Pro. We will wait for independent tests before drawing conclusions.

What it means for you

This MacBook Pro targets creators, video editors and photographers who want a brighter, higher-contrast screen. The $400 premium over the mini-LED equivalent is real. If you do not need touch or OLED, Apple also sells a 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M6 chip from $1,999, which we cover in our roundup of this week’s other announcements.

One more detail for the curious: a leaker links the new hinge to future iPhone Duo models. Treat that as what it is, a rumor.

Bottom line

The touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro is a real turning point for Apple, with a superb screen on paper and a higher price. First reviews, expected around November 6, will show whether touch and the Dynamic Island justify the spend. Would you be ready to touch your Mac’s screen? Tell us in the comments.
