FileBrowserTV is an Apple TV app made by Stratospherix Ltd. It lets you open, from the TV, the files sitting in shared folders on a Mac, a PC, a Time Capsule or a network drive.
What FileBrowserTV is for
The app scans your network, lists the shared folders it finds and lets you browse them with the Siri Remote. Photos show up as thumbnails or as a slideshow, with ten transition styles and automatic refresh when new pictures land in the folder. Videos stream directly, in the formats Apple TV can play, and music can keep playing while you browse or watch a slideshow. FileBrowserTV also opens PDFs, CBR and CBZ comic books, images inside ZIP and RAR archives, and camera RAW files. You can pin shortcuts to favourite folders and put a parental lock on the ones you’d rather keep private.
Who is it for?
It’s a good fit if your photos and home videos live on a computer or NAS and you want them on the big screen without pushing everything to an online service first. Readers of digital comics who prefer a TV to a tablet will find it handy too.
