DaVinci Resolve is Blackmagic Design’s post-production software. It started out as a high-end colour grading system and now covers the whole workflow: editing, colour correction, visual effects, motion graphics and audio mixing. It comes in a free version and a paid one, DaVinci Resolve Studio.
What DaVinci Resolve is for
The program is split into pages you switch between with one click: Media, Cut for quick edits, Edit for traditional timeline work, Fusion for effects and motion graphics, Color for grading, Fairlight for audio and Deliver for export. The latest release adds a Photo page as well. The free version handles Ultra HD up to 60 frames per second, HDR grading and multi-user work. Studio adds the Neural Engine AI features, extra Resolve FX, noise reduction, and higher resolutions and frame rates. Blackmagic Cloud lets teams share projects remotely.
Who is it for?
DaVinci Resolve is for video makers ready to move past basic editors, film and media students, and working professionals. The free version is enough for most YouTube videos and short films. You do need a capable machine, especially on the graphics side, and some patience while you learn your way around.
Download DaVinci Resolve safely
Download it from Blackmagic Design’s website for Windows, macOS and Linux. Mac users can also get it from the Mac App Store, and there is an iPad version on the App Store. DaVinci Resolve Studio is sold by Blackmagic Design and its resellers.
