DoorDash not working for thousands of people at the same moment almost always points to the company’s servers, not to your phone. The right first move is to check whether the outage is widespread, then to avoid breaking anything: no reinstalling, no password change, no second order. For drivers, an empty earnings balance during an outage is a display fault in the vast majority of cases, and completed deliveries reappear once service is restored.
DoorDash operates in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and everything below applies to all four markets unless stated otherwise.
In short: the quick fix
- Open Downdetector in a browser. A sudden spike in reports means the outage is widespread: wait and leave everything as it is.
- Dasher with an order in hand: complete the delivery if you have the address, photograph everything, message Dasher Support.
- Missing earnings: take screenshots of your deliveries, then wait. DoorDash says earnings display correctly again once the issue is resolved.
- Customer: do not place the same order again. Check the Orders tab and your bank statement first.
- If nobody else is reporting an outage, the problem is local: force-close the app, switch networks, turn off your VPN, update.
Recognizing the problem
The symptoms differ depending on which app you use.
On the customer side, the app sits on its launch screen or spins forever. Every restaurant shows as closed. The cart refuses to check out, sign-in fails, or the order goes through without ever showing tracking.
On the driver side, DoorDash publishes its own list of signs of a Dasher app outage: unable to log in, repeated crashes, unable to start or end a Dash, Pause not working, being removed from a current or scheduled Dash, completed orders missing from the earnings page, assorted error codes. Drivers also describe scheduled slots vanishing from the Schedule tab and an entire afternoon of work showing as zero dollars.

Why it happens
The DoorDash apps hold almost nothing themselves. Menus, prices, the driver’s position, the earnings balance: all of it is requested continuously from the company’s servers. When one of those services goes down, the app shows a blank. A zero balance usually means the phone got no answer, not that the money is gone.
Several separate services work together: authentication, order assignment, payment, earnings calculation. That explains partial outages, where you can be signed in but unable to start a Dash, or deliver an order without seeing it credited.
Drivers should watch for one false alarm. The Dash Now button turns grey when the zone already has enough Dashers: a grey zone on the map means unavailable, light pink means available, red means busy. That is not an outage. An outage looks like a button that spins endlessly or returns an error while the zone is open.
Before you start
Take screenshots before you touch anything: the error screen, the details of the current order, the earnings page, with the time visible in the status bar. These images are your evidence if a delivery goes unpaid or an order is charged twice.
Do not reset your password during an outage. DoorDash explicitly advises against it, and against uninstalling too: if the authentication servers are down, you will not be able to sign back in and you will lose access to the order in progress.
Solution 1: DoorDash not working for everyone? Check for an outage
Always do this first. No risk.
1. Look at Downdetector
The site aggregates user reports. A few dozen reports prove nothing. A vertical spike of several hundred or several thousand reports within minutes points to a fault on DoorDash’s side, and the comments often say whether it affects customers, Dashers or both.
2. Check the official status page
DoorDash maintains a status page at doordashstatus.com. It mostly tracks the tools aimed at merchants and developers, with one generic line for the mobile apps. An incident on the Dasher app does not necessarily appear there, so an all-green page guarantees nothing.
3. Cross-check
Open doordash.com in a browser, then try on mobile data if you were on Wi-Fi. Ask another driver or someone close to you. Failing everywhere: it is DoorDash, go to solution 2 or 4. Failing only for you: skip to solution 5.
Solution 2: Dashers, what to do during the outage
Nothing on your phone will bring the service back faster. This solution carries no risk; it is about limiting the damage.
1. Order already picked up: deliver it
If the address is still on screen or you wrote it down, finish the trip. Photograph the bag at the drop-off, the door, the street number. If the app refuses to confirm the delivery, keep the timestamped photo and move to step 3. DoorDash’s help page on outages does not say what to do with an order in progress; this approach is the one that leaves you with the most evidence.
2. Order accepted but not yet picked up
If the drive is short, go to the restaurant: the merchant can see the order on its tablet. If the app no longer gives you an address or a contact, do not set off blindly with the food. Wait on site and keep refreshing.
3. Contact Dasher Support
In the app, tap the “?” icon, then choose the option to chat with Dasher Support. Chat stays available outside a Dash. If the app will not open at all, use the phone number listed in the DoorDash help center for your country. Give the restaurant name, the time, the amount shown when you accepted, and attach your screenshots.
4. Keep refreshing
That is the official instruction: refresh often, retry signing in, reset nothing.
5. Do not unassign out of frustration
Dropping an accepted order lowers your completion rate, which is calculated on your last hundred accepted orders. Let the outage cause the failure itself: it will be easier to get corrected.
Check: once service is restored, DoorDash sends an official email, which also explains what happens with compensation and ratings.
Solution 3: Dashers, missing earnings and delayed payouts
Use this once service is back, or to work out whether the money is really late.
1. Separate the display from the payment
Three clues settle it. Your deliveries are missing from the Earnings tab while the outage is ongoing: a display fault. The balance is back but one trip is missing: a discrepancy to get corrected. The balance is right but nothing reaches the bank: a transfer delay, which has to be judged against the usual schedule.
2. Remember the normal schedule
DoorDash pays weekly for deliveries completed from the previous Monday through Sunday. Direct deposit takes two to three business days to clear the banking system and generally lands by Wednesday evening. A bank holiday falling on a Monday pushes everything back a day. Before that point, nothing is late.
3. Fast Pay unavailable: find the real reason
Fast Pay lets you cash out once a day, for $1.99, from the Earnings tab. The transfer usually takes a few minutes, sometimes a few business days depending on the bank. During an outage, the button can stay greyed out simply because the balance is not loading.
Outside an outage, the usual blockers are well known: insufficient balance, a cash-out already made that day, a hold on the account, a debit card added or changed less than seven days ago, fewer than 25 deliveries or less than 14 days on the platform. In Canada, only certain banks are supported.
DasherDirect, DoorDash’s prepaid card, is reserved for drivers in the United States.
4. Get a missing trip corrected
Wait for the end-of-incident email, then compare your screenshots with your history. If a delivery is missing, write to support with the time, the restaurant and the drop-off photo.
5. Dispute an unjustified contract violation
An outage of DoorDash’s own system is not a contract violation. If you are still flagged for a delivery marked “never delivered” or “late”, open the Ratings tab, go to the Contract Violations section, select the entry and use the option to provide additional details. DoorDash also removes certain poor customer ratings given during a system outage.
Check: the trip shows up in your earnings and the violation disappears from the list.

Solution 4: customers, orders, double charges and refunds
1. Check before you reorder
Did the screen freeze at the moment of payment? Open the Orders tab, or sign in at doordash.com from a browser. Look for the confirmation email too. If the order exists, it went through. Placing a second one means paying for two meals.
2. Read your statement correctly
A “pending” line at your bank is an authorization: the funds are held, not taken. If the order did not go through, that line drops off by itself, within three business days at most according to DoorDash. Two pending lines for a single order are therefore not yet a double charge. Two posted charges are.
3. Cancel cleanly if the order is stuck
Orders tab, select the order, Help, then Cancel Order. The refund depends on how far along it is: full as long as the restaurant has not confirmed and no Dasher is assigned, partial or nothing after that.
4. Request the refund
Go through Help on the order concerned, or through doordash.com/orders/help. State that the delivery never arrived or that the order was charged twice, with a screenshot of the statement to back it up. DoorDash credit is available straight away and applies to your next order; a refund to your card takes three to ten business days. After ten business days, follow up with support.
5. Use the website
During a partial outage, the website sometimes works when the app does not respond. If it fails as well, call the restaurant.
Check: an email states the date and amount of the refund.
Solution 5: local troubleshooting, without erasing anything
Use this when no widespread outage is being reported. No risk.
1. Force-close the app
On iPhone, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to show your open apps, then swipe DoorDash or Dasher up and away. On Android: Settings > Apps > the app’s name > Force stop. Open it again.
2. Switch networks
Turn off Wi-Fi and go to mobile data, then the other way round. Make sure Airplane Mode is off.
3. Turn off your VPN
DoorDash asks for a connection without a VPN. A VPN changes your apparent location and can stop the app from placing you inside a delivery zone.
4. Check the date and time
A clock that is off makes secure connections fail. Turn on automatic setting: Settings > General > Date & Time on iPhone, Settings > System > Date & time on Android.
5. Update, then restart
Open the App Store or Google Play and install the latest version. A version that is too old eventually gets rejected by the servers. Then restart the phone.
Check: the home screen loads and the map appears.
Solution 6: cache, storage, signing back in, reinstalling
Heavier: you will be signed out. Keep it for the case where the service works for everyone else.
1. Free up space
A full phone stops the app from saving its temporary files and your drop-off photos. Keep at least one gigabyte free.
2. Clear the cache (Android)
Settings > Apps > DoorDash or Dasher > Storage > Clear cache. The cache holds only temporary files. If that is not enough, DoorDash recommends clearing the data in the same place for the customer app, which signs you out. iPhone has no such option: only reinstalling clears the cache.
3. Log out and back in
In Dasher on iPhone: Account icon > Settings > Log Out. On Android: the menu icon at the top left, then Log Out at the bottom of the list.
4. Reinstall
On iPhone, touch and hold the icon, then tap Remove App. Power the phone off for a few seconds, turn it back on, reinstall. Note that a jailbroken or rooted phone may be rejected by the Dasher app.
Check: sign-in succeeds and, on the driver side, the zone map appears with the Dash Now button.
What not to do
Creating a second account, customer or driver, to get around the outage. Duplicates put you at risk of deactivation, and the second account depends on the same servers.
Placing the same order several times. Each attempt may go through in the background.
Resetting your password or uninstalling in the middle of an outage.
Disputing the charge with your bank before asking DoorDash for the refund: a chargeback can get the account blocked.
Handing your login details to a supposed support agent found on social media. Outages attract scammers.
Summary table
| Symptom | Likely cause | Solution to try |
|---|---|---|
| Endless loading screen, spike on Downdetector | DoorDash server outage | Solution 1, then wait |
| Earnings balance empty or at zero | Display fault during the outage | Solutions 2 and 3 |
| Dash Now button grey, map grey | Zone already full, not an outage | Schedule a Dash from the Schedule tab or change zone |
| Dash Now button returns an error | Outage, or wrong location | Solution 1, then solution 5 |
| Completed delivery not credited | Trip not recorded during the incident | Solution 3, step 4 |
| Fast Pay greyed out | Balance not loaded, daily limit, recently added card | Solution 3, step 3 |
| Two “pending” lines on the statement | Bank authorizations | Solution 4, step 2 |
| The app crashes only for you | Old version, cache, network, VPN | Solutions 5 and 6 |
If nothing works
DoorDash’s chat and phone line are open around the clock. Prepare a short message: account type, phone model and system version, app version, time of the problem, exact error message, what you have already tried. Attach the screenshots.
For a missing payment, add the week concerned and the amount you expected. For a double charge, the screenshot of the statement showing two posted transactions.
Keeping it from happening again
Get into the habit of taking a screenshot of the acceptance screen for every order, which shows the restaurant and the guaranteed amount, and of writing down the customer’s address as soon as you pick up. Those two habits are enough to finish a delivery even if the app goes down on the way.
Turn on automatic updates and keep a second delivery app installed so you are not left idle. On the customer side, save the phone numbers of your usual restaurants.
Frequently asked questions
My earnings have disappeared from the Dasher app. Are they lost?
No, in almost every case. DoorDash says completed orders missing from the earnings page display correctly again once the incident is resolved. Keep your screenshots so you can check.
Will I be paid for a delivery made during the outage?
DoorDash commits to paying for services actually rendered and sets out any compensation by email after the incident. If a trip is missing, claim it with your evidence.
Why is the Dash Now button grey?
Most often because the zone has reached the number of Dashers it needs. Schedule a slot in the Schedule tab or pick a neighboring zone. An outage tends to produce an error or endless loading instead.
I was charged twice. What should I do?
First check whether both lines are “pending”: an authorization drops off by itself within three business days. If two charges have really posted, request the refund from Help on the order.
If you find DoorDash not working while no outage is being reported, describe your phone, the message on screen and what you have already tried in the comments: those details often help other readers find the cause.
