Catchpoint is a service for what its maker calls Internet Performance Monitoring: it keeps measuring how available and how fast websites, applications and online services are, from thousands of locations around the world. The company was started by monitoring specialists who had worked at DoubleClick, the online ad business later bought by Google, among them chief executive Mehdi Daoudi and Dritan Suljoti.

The big change came at the end of 2025, when monitoring vendor LogicMonitor announced on 2 December that it had completed its acquisition of Catchpoint. The catchpoint.com website is still online and now carries the banner “Catchpoint Is Now Part of LogicMonitor”. The service is proprietary and sold by subscription.

What Catchpoint is for

The core idea is synthetic monitoring. Instead of waiting for a customer to complain, robots repeat what a visitor would do, loading a page, signing in, calling an API or resolving a domain name, and time every step. Catchpoint lists more than fifty test types, from a basic ping to a full journey in a real browser. Those checks are combined with real user monitoring, which records the load times actual visitors experience, with BGP monitoring and with request tracing inside applications.

What sets it apart is the measurement network. Its Global Observability Network page reports 3,083 agents in 350 cities across 108 countries: 980 on carrier backbones, 263 in public clouds, 126 on consumer last-mile connections and 45 on wireless networks, plus 1,669 BGP peers. A test run from a backbone does not tell the same story as one run from a home line, and that mix helps tell a hosting outage apart from a slowdown at an access provider. Internet Sonar, which flags outages at major services, and Internet Stack Map, which charts what an application depends on, are built on that data.

The company also owns WebPageTest, the web performance tool created by Patrick Meenan, whose acquisition was announced in September 2020. Against ThousandEyes, its direct competitor, the difference is mostly one of emphasis: ThousandEyes, closely tied to Cisco, puts network paths first, while Catchpoint focuses on the digital experience from backbone to browser. Neither has much in common with LibreNMS or ntopng, which watch what happens inside your own network.

Who is it for?

Catchpoint is aimed at online retailers, media groups, banks, SaaS vendors and any organisation for which a minute of downtime means lost revenue. Site reliability engineers, web performance leads and network teams juggling several CDNs or DNS providers are its main users. An endpoint module also helps IT departments understand what their own staff experience on their laptops.

The ongoing transition has to be taken into account. LogicMonitor says Catchpoint keeps running and being supported as before, with the same contracts and account teams, but that its features will gradually move into the LM Envision platform and the Edwin AI assistant. On LogicMonitor’s price list they already appear as LM Synthetics and Internet Performance, LM Real User Monitoring and LM Endpoint Monitoring, sold as add-ons on request. New customers should expect names, packages and interfaces to change. For checking that a small website is up, the service is far more than you need.

The service runs from the vendor’s web portal and no prices are published. The old pricing and trial pages on catchpoint.com now redirect to LogicMonitor’s, which offers a trial of its own platform without saying whether the Catchpoint modules are included. The official route for a new customer remains the demo request form on catchpoint.com.

Two kinds of agent can be installed. Enterprise Nodes, which run tests from your own premises, are installed from Catchpoint’s package repositories on Red Hat 8 and 9 and their derivatives, Amazon Linux 2023 or Ubuntu 22 and 24, or deployed as a Docker container. A lighter edition limited to network tests also runs on ARM processors, and the documentation advises against shared-CPU cloud instances for browser tests. The Endpoint agent runs on Windows 10 and later or macOS 10.15 and later with a Chrome extension, and its installer can only be downloaded from the portal along with a licence key. Documentation lives at docs.catchpoint.com. An agent offered anywhere outside that portal or those repositories could not be linked to any account.

Frequently asked questions

Does Catchpoint still exist?

Yes. LogicMonitor completed the acquisition in December 2025 and says the service continues to run and be supported. Its features are due to be folded into the LogicMonitor platform over time.

Can I try Catchpoint for free?

No official page currently describes a Catchpoint-specific trial. LogicMonitor offers a trial of its own platform, and WebPageTest still has a free Starter plan capped at 150 test runs a month, according to its price list.

Catchpoint or ThousandEyes?

Both cover the same ground with public agents, enterprise agents and endpoint agents. The decision often comes down to the wider ecosystem: ThousandEyes plugs into Cisco hardware, while Catchpoint is joining the LogicMonitor platform and brings WebPageTest along.

Our opinion

We like

  • Dense agent network on backbones, clouds and mobile
  • More than fifty synthetic test types
  • Real user monitoring plus WebPageTest
  • Linux and Docker enterprise agents, ARM included
  • Endpoint monitoring on Windows and macOS

We like less

  • No public prices and no product-specific trial
  • Brand future unclear after the acquisition
  • Overkill for basic uptime checks
