Tecno Camon 50 Pro: specs, price and full review

With its 50MP 3x telephoto and IP69K rating, the Camon 50 Pro is an excellent mid-range camera phone. But the 4G and 5G versions don't play in the same league.

The Tecno Camon 50 Pro is one of the most convincing mid-rangers of 2026 if you want a real optical zoom without going much past 200,000 FCFA. It comes in two versions: a 4G model launched in Africa in February, and a 5G model that followed in March with a far stronger chip. Both share a 6.78-inch curved 144Hz AMOLED screen, a 50MP 3x telephoto camera and a level of water resistance that is rare at this price. It is aimed first at people who love portraits and everyday photography, much less at demanding gamers.

Introduction: the Camon that bets everything on zoom

Camon has long been Tecno’s photography line. The Camon 50 Pro sits just above the Tecno Camon 50, whose foundations it shares, and below the Camon 50 Ultra, the series’ technology showcase. What separates it from the standard model comes down to three things: a slightly curved screen instead of a flat panel, a 50MP telephoto camera and, on the 5G version, a chip from a different class altogether.

The 4G version was unveiled on 17 February 2026, with pre-orders opening in Kenya at 38,999 shillings, or roughly 300 dollars. The 5G version followed on 10 March 2026, starting in Indonesia, after the series was shown at MWC in Barcelona. Depending on the market, expect to pay between 300 and 360 dollars, which puts the phone up against mid-range Galaxy A models and the best-equipped Redmi Notes.

Who is it for? People who mostly photograph other people: portraits, events, content for social media. The 3x zoom really changes the way you frame a face. Gamers, on the other hand, need to pick their version carefully, because the performance gap between the 4G and the 5G is huge.

Verdict at a glance

Verdict in 30 seconds

7.6/10Good value

A solid, well-protected mid-ranger with a real 3x optical zoom, something rare at this price. Go for the 5G version if your budget allows: its Dimensity 7400 Ultimate chip fixes the main weakness of the 4G model.

For whom People who love portraits and everyday photography and want a long-lasting, water-resistant phone.

Avoid if You play a lot of demanding 3D games and can only stretch to the 4G version.

Three figures really matter. First, the chip: the 4G version’s Helio G200 is built on a 6nm process and remains an entry-level mid-range part, whereas the 5G’s Dimensity 7400 Ultimate, built on 4nm, plays in the league above. Next, the battery: 6,150mAh claimed for the 4G, 6,500mAh for the 5G. Finally, the stabilised 50MP telephoto with a 70mm-equivalent focal length, which on its own justifies the Pro badge.

Design: slim, curved and built to last

Tecno has taken care over the looks. The screen is curved, but only slightly: the brand quotes a 43.5-degree curvature, a long way from the heavily rounded edges of earlier generations. The phone keeps a premium feel without the accidental touches you get with strongly curved displays.

According to GSMArena, both versions measure 162.4mm tall and 77mm wide. Thickness goes from 7.4mm on the 4G to 7.8mm on the 5G, which is down to the bigger battery. Third-party spec sheets put the weight at around 178 to 179 grams, and some list slightly different dimensions for the 4G, so these figures are still awaiting confirmation from Tecno.

Protection is the real highlight. The Camon 50 Pro holds IP68, IP69 and IP69K certifications, and Tecno claims compliance with the MIL-STD-810 military standard. In practice, it is dust-tight, survives prolonged immersion and stands up to high-pressure water jets. For everyday life in Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire or Senegal, that is a very practical argument: dry-season dust, tropical downpours, a phone dropped in a puddle at the market.

On the colour front, the 4G version comes in six finishes, including Moonlight Black, Malachite Green, Nebula Titanium and Ethereal Blue. The 5G offers four: Moonshadow Black, Cypress Green, Nebula Titanium and Misty Purple. The fingerprint reader is optical and sits under the screen. Both versions take two nano-SIM cards, which matters a lot if you juggle two networks.

Display: a fine 144Hz AMOLED panel

Both versions use the same 6.78-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1208 x 2644 pixels, which Tecno calls 1.5K. Pixel density is around 429 pixels per inch, more than enough for sharp text. The refresh rate goes up to 144Hz, and touch sampling reaches 2,800Hz on the 4G version, according to TechCabal.

On paper, it is one of the best screens in its class. But the Helio G200 won’t run many games at 144 frames per second: on the 4G model, that refresh rate mostly benefits the interface and social apps. An in-house display chip, the T1, optimises some content while keeping power consumption in check.

Peak brightness hasn’t been clearly stated. A Nigerian spec sheet mentions a 3,000-nit peak for the 5G, without official confirmation from Tecno. Early published reviews describe the screen as bright outdoors, with vivid colours and deep contrast, which is what you would expect from a recent AMOLED. The 5G supports high-frequency PWM dimming, which is easier on the eyes.

Performance: two phones under one name

This is the part that should drive your purchase. Under a single name, Tecno sells two devices that don’t play in the same league.

4G version: Helio G200, enough but with no headroom

The Helio G200 pairs two Cortex-A76 cores at 2.2GHz with six Cortex-A55 cores, plus Mali-G57 MC2 graphics. For WhatsApp, TikTok, YouTube and photography, it does the job.

Gaming is a more mixed story. According to PC Tech Magazine’s review, Call of Duty Mobile runs fine at medium quality and PUBG Mobile at HD graphics, with some warming during long sessions. Decent, but with nothing in reserve for the years ahead. Memory is fixed at 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, with no microSD slot. The storage type on the 4G version is unclear: TechCabal says UFS 2.2, another spec sheet says eMMC 5.1.

5G version: Dimensity 7400 Ultimate, another level

The 5G version moves to the Dimensity 7400 Ultimate, built on 4nm, with four Cortex-A78 cores at 2.6GHz, four Cortex-A55 cores and a Mali-G615 MC2 GPU. The gap with the Helio G200 is very clear, both in raw power and in power efficiency. 3D games should benefit noticeably, and the phone will age better. It comes in 8GB/256GB, 12GB/256GB or 12GB/512GB configurations, with UFS storage.

Our take: if the 5G version costs you a few tens of thousands of FCFA more, buy it, even if 5G coverage is still patchy where you live. The chip will make a difference every single day.

Good to know — Some retailers only label the phone as “Camon 50 Pro”. Ask to see the box or the phone’s settings: the 5G mention and the Dimensity 7400 processor confirm you are getting the more powerful version. When the prices are close, that mistake is an expensive one.

Camera: the 3x zoom makes the difference

The rear module is identical on both versions. The main camera uses a 50MP Sony LYTIA 700C sensor, 1/1.56 inches in size, with an f/1.8 aperture and optical stabilisation.

The real novelty is the telephoto: 50MP, f/2.4, 70mm equivalent, 3x optical zoom, autofocus and optical stabilisation. At this price, most rivals settle for a digital crop. 3x is the ideal focal length for portraits: less facial distortion, a blurrier background, and the ability to photograph someone without shoving the lens in their face. Early published reviews also single out portraits as the camera’s strong point. Tecno also advertises an “AI SuperZoom” up to 60x: beyond 6x or 10x, expect images reworked by the algorithm rather than real detail.

The ultra-wide is the weak link: 8MP, f/2.2, 112 degrees. It will do in broad daylight but loses detail quickly as the light drops. At night, rely on the main sensor, backed by the AI LightMaster 2.0 tool and reworked noise reduction.

Tecno highlights its Universal Tone algorithm, designed to render darker skin tones faithfully. That is a real issue in Africa, where many smartphones lighten faces or make them look grey. User feedback published in Côte d’Ivoire describes lively, detailed images, but these are testimonials relayed by the brand, so treat them with some caution.

On the front, the two versions part ways. The 4G has a 32MP selfie camera in a centred punch-hole. The 5G moves up to 50MP with autofocus, a real plus for content creators who film themselves. For video, the 5G records in 4K at 30 frames per second; for the 4G, GSMArena lists 1080p at 30 frames per second, a limit Tecno has not officially detailed as far as we know.

Battery and charging: built for long days

The 4G version has a 6,150mAh battery according to most spec sheets, including GSMArena and Notebookcheck; TechCabal, however, lists 6,500mAh. The 5G goes up to 6,500mAh. Both charge at 45W over a cable. There is no wireless charging.

According to PC Tech Magazine, the battery reaches 40 to 45% in 30 minutes, and a full charge takes about 1 hour 20 minutes. That is no record, but the capacity is high. The same review reports a full day of normal to heavy use. On the 5G version, the 4nm Dimensity 7400 should in theory manage power better than the Helio G200, with a bigger battery on top.

Tecno says the battery is designed to last five years, keeping more than 80% of its capacity after 1,800 cycles. That promise is impossible to check today. The brand also claims safe charging up to 45°C, useful when temperatures climb in the hot season.

When power cuts hit, a battery of more than 6,000mAh is a real comfort. A practical tip: keep the original 45W charger or a good-quality compatible one. A weaker generic charger cancels out the benefit of fast charging when the power only comes back for a few hours.

Software: HiOS 16 on Android 16

The Camon 50 Pro ships with Android 16 and the HiOS 16 skin. Tecno promises up to three major Android updates. Several outlets also report five years of security patches for the series, a period Tecno has not, to our knowledge, confirmed for this specific model. That is a much better commitment than the brand offered a few years ago. The rollout pace remains the question, historically Tecno’s weak spot.

AI is everywhere: the Ella assistant, AI MindHub to bring the smart features together, photo editing tools, note-taking from YouTube videos, and even an iPhone-style “Dynamic Island” around the selfie camera. Some of it is useful, some of it is more of a demo.

HiOS is still a busy interface. Expect pre-installed apps and suggestions to switch off during setup. On the connectivity side, you get NFC for contactless payments, an infrared blaster to control the TV or air conditioning, FM radio, stereo speakers and Wi-Fi 6 on the 5G version.

Price and availability: Africa and Asia, not Europe

In Côte d’Ivoire, the Camon 50 Pro was listed at around €326 (214,000 FCFA) on promotion on Jumia in early October 2026; check the exact version and configuration with the seller. In Cameroon and Senegal, we found no official published price, so ask authorised retailers in Douala, Yaoundé and Dakar. Other markets give a useful benchmark:

  • Kenya (4G): from 38,999 to 44,000 shillings, roughly 255 to 290 euros, or 170,000 to 190,000 FCFA.
  • Nigeria (4G): from 420,000 to 495,000 naira depending on the retailer.
  • Indonesia (5G): from 5,599,000 rupiah for 8GB/256GB, roughly €285 (185,000 FCFA); another site lists 5,499,000 rupiah.

Conversions are approximate and exclude local taxes. In West and Central Africa, the 4G version is the most widely available; the 5G is still harder to find, and its official sale in the FCFA zone has yet to be confirmed. Buy from an authorised retailer if you can, to get the warranty and access to Carlcare, the Transsion group’s after-sales repair network, which is well established in Douala, Yaoundé, Abidjan and Dakar.

On the network side, 4G LTE covers most needs across the region. The 5G version supports both SA and NSA modes, but check your operator’s 5G bands before paying extra for that compatibility; confirm the list of supported bands with the retailer.

In France, the Camon 50 Pro is not officially on sale. No listing was available at Amazon, Fnac, Darty or Cdiscount at the time of writing. Only the Camon 50 Ultra has been announced for Europe. Importing remains an option, without a local warranty.

If zoom doesn’t matter to you, the standard Camon 50 keeps the essentials, including the Helio G200 chip, the Sony main sensor and the big battery, for less money, with a flat screen. To go further in photography, the Tecno Camon 50 Ultra is the series’ flagship and the only model announced for Europe. And if gaming comes first, take a look at the Infinix GT 50 Pro, from the same group’s gaming range.

Conclusion: should you buy the Tecno Camon 50 Pro?

Yes, as long as you know what you are buying. The Camon 50 Pro brings together what matters most day to day: a lovely screen, a generous battery, real water and dust resistance and, above all, a 3x telephoto you will hardly find anywhere else at this price.

The 4G version is fine for social media and photos, but its Helio G200 will age less gracefully. The 5G version, on the other hand, is a very complete mid-ranger. If you are torn between the two, the 5G is clearly the better investment.

Our pick

Tecno Camon 50 Pro 5G — with its stabilised 3x telephoto, Dimensity 7400 Ultimate chip and 6,500mAh battery, it is the best-balanced Camon of 2026 for anyone who wants an excellent camera phone for around €290 to €350 (190,000 to 230,000 FCFA), an indicative price until the 5G gets official pricing in the FCFA zone.

Frequently asked questions

How much does the Tecno Camon 50 Pro cost in Cameroon?

Tecno has not published an official price for Cameroon. In Côte d’Ivoire, the Camon 50 Pro was offered at around 214,000 FCFA on promotion on Jumia in early October 2026. In Kenya, the 4G version launched at roughly 255 to 290 euros, or 170,000 to 190,000 FCFA before local taxes. In Cameroon, expect a similar range at authorised retailers in Douala and Yaoundé. Compare several shops and check the version, 4G or 5G, carefully before you pay.

Does the Tecno Camon 50 Pro support 5G?

It depends on the version. The Camon 50 Pro launched in Africa in February 2026 is a 4G model powered by the Helio G200 processor. A Camon 50 Pro 5G came out in March 2026, first in Indonesia, with the Dimensity 7400 Ultimate chip and a 6,500mAh battery. To find out which one you have in your hands, look at the box or at the “About phone” section in the settings: the processor and the 5G mention are clearly shown there.

Is the Tecno Camon 50 Pro waterproof?

Yes, to a large extent. The Camon 50 Pro is IP68, IP69 and IP69K certified: it is fully protected against dust, survives prolonged immersion in fresh water and resists high-pressure water jets. Tecno also claims compliance with the MIL-STD-810 military standard. These certifications don’t cover seawater or hot water, though, and the warranty doesn’t always cover liquid damage. Rinse it with clean water after exposure to salt or sand.

How many Android updates will the Camon 50 Pro get?

The Camon 50 Pro ships with Android 16 and the HiOS 16 interface. Tecno promises up to three major Android updates, meaning three new versions after Android 16. Several outlets also mention five years of security patches for the Camon 50 series, a commitment Tecno will have to honour over time. In the past, the brand has sometimes been slow to roll out its updates. Check the system update menu regularly so you don’t miss any patches.
