The Tecno Camon Slim 5G is a 6.39 mm mid-ranger that pulls off something few phones manage: staying very thin without giving up on the battery, the screen or toughness. With 6,000 mAh, a 1.5K AMOLED panel at 144 Hz, a Dimensity 7300e chip and a four-way IP66/IP68/IP69/IP69K rating, it is aimed at people who want a phone that looks sharp in the pocket and still lasts the day. Its weak spots are already clear: charging cut back to 45 W, capped video and a modest ultra-wide camera. One key question remains for West and Central Africa: the local price, which has not been announced yet.
Introduction: Tecno’s slim Camon finally gets 5G
This is not Tecno’s first ultra-thin phone. In June 2026 the brand launched the plain Camon Slim, a 4G model running a Helio G200 Ultimate, with 5,600 mAh and 60 W charging. That is the version currently listed on Tecno’s Cameroon website and sold by some online retailers in West Africa. The Camon Slim 5G, unveiled in early September and shown at IFA in Berlin, keeps the same silhouette but changes almost everything inside: a new chip, a bigger battery, a dual camera module and tougher protection.
Bangladesh was the pilot market, with pre-orders open from 1 to 7 September 2026 and a price of 59,999 taka for the 8 GB + 256 GB version. The Philippines follow on 1 October. For Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal, Tecno had not shared a date or a price at the time of writing.
Within the line-up, it sits above the Camon Air, launched at the same time with the same thickness but a more affordable positioning, and below the camera-focused Camon 50 series. The target buyer is easy to picture: someone who wants a light, stylish phone that shrugs off water and dust, without hunting for a charger by late afternoon. Heavy gamers and anyone who shoots a lot of 4K video should look elsewhere.
Verdict at a glance
Verdict in 30 seconds
A very thin phone that cuts no corners on battery or durability. It is convincing day to day, but the video, the ultra-wide camera and the 45 W charging cap are reminders that it is still a mid-ranger.
For whom Anyone who wants a stylish, light, long-lasting and water-resistant smartphone with 5G and a great screen.
Avoid if You play a lot of demanding games, shoot video often, or can find the 4G version for much less where you live.

Three numbers sum this phone up. First, 6.39 mm, which puts it in the very small club of ultra-thin smartphones. Second, 6,000 mAh, a capacity that until recently came in handsets twice as thick. Third, the Dimensity 7300e, which brings 5G and a real jump in performance over the Helio G200 in the 4G version. The weight is less clear: depending on the source, 171 or around 190 grams.
Design: blade-thin, yet properly tough
At 162.58 × 77.27 × 6.39 mm, the Camon Slim 5G is a big phone, but it doesn’t look like one lying on a table. The screen is flat, a change from the curved edges of the 4G version. That choice pays off twice: fewer accidental touches from your palm, and a slightly wider frame to hold on to. According to the first published reviews, the phone does not feel fragile despite its thinness, which was the main worry.
The camera module is a vertical strip in the top-left corner. It sticks out enough to make the phone rock slightly when laid flat, a complaint raised by several reviewers.
Tecno puts a lot of effort into finishes. The Neo Mondrian colourway features geometric blocks that change shade in sunlight. Matisse Black, Van Gogh Blue, Burgundy Red, Rebel Pink and Gossamer White round out the list, though not every colour will be sold everywhere.
The real surprise is how tough it is. The Camon Slim 5G stacks IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings on top of MIL-STD-810H military certification. In plain terms, it withstands dust, submersion and high-pressure hot water jets. For daily use in Douala during the rainy season, in Dakar when the harmattan blows or on a dusty building site, that is a tangible benefit. The screen also registers wet or greasy fingers and keeps working in the rain, which is handy for drivers and delivery riders. The fingerprint reader sits under the display.
Good to know — An IP69K rating does not make a phone indestructible. Transsion’s warranty often excludes liquid damage: keep it out of the pool and salt water, and let the USB-C port dry before charging. If something goes wrong, the Carlcare service network remains the official point of contact in Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal.
Display: a 1.5K AMOLED that rivals pricier phones
The panel is a 6.78-inch AMOLED with a resolution of 1,208 × 2,644 pixels, according to Tecno’s official spec sheet. That is what the industry calls 1.5K: sharper than the usual Full HD+ at this price, and the difference shows on text and photos. The refresh rate goes up to 144 Hz, so scrolling through social feeds and menus feels very smooth.
Tecno quotes 2,160 Hz PWM dimming and TÜV Rheinland low blue light certification. Both matter to people who are sensitive to OLED flicker at low brightness, especially in the evening. Reviewers report vivid colours and crisp text.
One important figure is missing, though: peak brightness. Tecno has not published it for this model. Yet that is what decides whether you can read the screen in direct sunlight, an everyday situation across much of Africa. Stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support complete the package for video.
Performance: the Dimensity 7300e gets the job done, no more
The Camon Slim 5G runs a MediaTek Dimensity 7300e built on a 4 nm process. It pairs four Cortex-A78 cores at 2.5 GHz with four Cortex-A55 cores at 2 GHz, and a Mali-G610 MC2 GPU. It comes with 8 GB of RAM, which HiOS can stretch with 16 GB of virtual memory borrowed from storage. Storage is 128 or 256 GB depending on the market, with no microSD slot.
Compared with the Helio G200 in the 4G version, the gap is clear. Benchmark databases put the 5G model at around 830,000 points on AnTuTu, against roughly 576,000 for the 4G model, aggregator figures that no independent test has confirmed yet. Even taken with a pinch of salt, that is an improvement of more than 40%.
In everyday use, the first published reviews describe a responsive phone: apps open quickly, multitasking is stable and the interface stays smooth at 144 Hz. Light and mid-weight games run without trouble. For demanding titles such as Genshin Impact, or Call of Duty Mobile on high settings, you will need to lower the graphics.
Then there is heat. A chassis this thin dissipates warmth less effectively, and no reliable thermal measurements have been published yet. At 32 °C in the shade, a long gaming session or a 5G video call could push temperatures up. Fortunately, the chip’s modest power draw limits the risk.
On the connectivity side, the phone supports 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G, with dual SIM, NFC, an infrared blaster to control a TV or air conditioner, and FM radio. The exact list of 5G bands has not been published for Africa: ask the retailer to confirm compatibility with MTN or Orange Cameroon before buying. Sources also disagree on the Wi-Fi standard, Wi-Fi 5 or Wi-Fi 6.
Cameras: a good main sensor, the rest trails behind
The rear module combines two cameras. The main one uses a 50 MP, 1/1.56-inch Sony LYTIA 700C sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, PDAF autofocus and optical image stabilisation. That is a genuine upper-mid-range sensor, larger than what you usually get at this price. Tecno adds AI-assisted electronic stabilisation and preset 24, 35 and 50 mm focal lengths for portraits.

In daylight, reviewers praise detailed shots and accurate colours. At night, optical stabilisation clearly helps keep photos sharp, although one published review regrets the lack of a prominent dedicated night mode. Expect pictures that work well on social media, but no miracles in near-total darkness.
The 8 MP, 112-degree ultra-wide is the weak link. It does the job for landscapes or group shots, but detail falls off quickly at the edges and in low light. There is no telephoto lens: zoom relies on digital cropping, which the brand calls Super-Zoom FlashSnap.
Up front, the 32 MP selfie camera produces flattering portraits according to user feedback, useful for video calls and TikTok content. Video is more of a question mark. One review mentions a ceiling of 2K at 30 frames per second, another a 1080p maximum, and neither mentions 4K. For content creators, that is a serious limitation.
Battery and charging: 6,000 mAh in 6.39 mm
This is the Camon Slim 5G’s headline feature. Tecno has squeezed a 6,000 mAh battery into a 6.39 mm chassis, 400 mAh more than the 4G version. The brand says the battery is designed to last five years, with limited degradation over charge cycles.

The first published reviews report a full day of heavy use and spill-over into the next day with light use. With an efficient chip and an AMOLED screen, that adds up. No standardised screen-on-time measurement has been published yet. If you live with regular power cuts, that reserve makes a real difference: it gets you through an evening without electricity without switching to battery saver at 6 pm.
Wired charging, on the other hand, drops from 60 W on the 4G version to 45 W here. With a bigger battery, a full charge should therefore take longer, probably around an hour, an estimate in the absence of an official figure. There is no wireless charging. Tecno sells a magnetic accessory separately, the MagBadge, a small 1.73-inch OLED screen that doubles as a remote shutter, but it does not charge the phone.
Software: HiOS 16 on Android 16, with real long-term support
The Camon Slim 5G ships with Android 16 and the HiOS 16 skin. Tecno promises three major Android updates and five years of security patches. That is a solid commitment for a Tecno in this segment. It remains to be seen whether rollouts will stay on schedule in Africa, where updates sometimes arrive late.
Tecno highlights a TÜV SÜD certification that, according to the brand, guarantees the phone will stay smooth for 60 months. The list of AI features is long: AI Snap Poster to turn a photo into a poster, AI LightMaster 2.0 to relight shots, AI Recording Notes to summarise a recording, AI Healthy Eating to estimate the calories in a dish, and AI Class Schedule for students. A dedicated One-Tap button opens FlashMemo to quickly save whatever is on screen.
Some of these features work mainly in English and need a data connection. In some countries, Tecno also bundles a three-month Google AI Plus trial with 2 TB of storage, though it is unconfirmed whether the offer applies in West and Central Africa. Expect a few preinstalled apps too, which take minutes to remove.
Price and availability: waiting for West and Central Africa
The only official price known as of 1 October 2026 comes from Bangladesh: 59,999 taka for the 8 GB + 256 GB version. At current exchange rates, that works out at around €420, or close to 275,000 FCFA. Treat that conversion as a rough guide: Tecno’s African prices factor in import duties, local positioning and launch promotions. The Philippines were due to reveal their price on 1 October.
In Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal, Tecno currently sells the Camon Slim 4G. On Jumia Côte d’Ivoire, third-party sellers list the 256 GB model at around €335 (219,500 FCFA), a marketplace price: we found no official price in the FCFA zone. In Nigeria, the tech press reported the 4G version at around 450,000 naira at launch. As far as we know, the 5G model has no date or price in sub-Saharan Africa yet, including Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal.
Buy from an authorised Tecno store or a well-known retailer where possible. You will get the manufacturer’s warranty and access to the Carlcare network, which is not always the case with a phone imported by a private seller.
In France, neither Tecno nor the big retailers (Amazon, Fnac, Darty, Cdiscount) offer the Camon Slim 5G for now. You would have to import it, with the usual risks around the warranty and compatibility with French 5G bands.

Alternatives to the Tecno Camon Slim 5G
Tecno Camon Air
Tecno Camon 50 Pro (4G et 5G)
Infinix GT 50 Pro 5G
If the slim design appeals but budget matters, the Camon Air, launched at the same time, keeps the 6.39 mm profile and the 6,000 mAh battery, with faster 60 W charging. For photography, the Tecno Camon 50 Pro remains the pick of the range. And if you game a lot, the Infinix GT 50 Pro is built to sustain heavy graphics loads over time. Neither of those two, however, goes for extreme thinness.
Conclusion: should you buy the Tecno Camon Slim 5G?
Yes, if your priority is a thin phone that won’t let you down by the end of the day. The Camon Slim 5G fixes most of the 4G version’s weaknesses: the chip is a clear step up, 5G arrives, the battery grows and the water protection becomes one of the most complete on the market. For social media, video and daytime photos, it ticks almost every box.
You do have to accept its compromises, though: slower charging, limited video and an unremarkable ultra-wide. And everything will hinge on the African price. At around 250,000 FCFA, it would be an excellent deal. Above 300,000 FCFA, more powerful rivals would be hard to ignore.
Good to know — If 5G is not yet available in your city, the Camon Slim 4G offers the same look and faster 60 W charging for less money. The 5G model keeps the edge on power, battery and longevity.
Frequently asked questions
How much does the Tecno Camon Slim 5G cost in Cameroon?
As of 1 October 2026, Tecno has not announced an official price in Cameroon for the 5G version. The only known price comes from Bangladesh, at 59,999 taka for the 8 GB + 256 GB version, or about 275,000 FCFA at the current exchange rate. The local price may differ depending on taxes and promotions. In the meantime, the 4G version is already on sale in the FCFA zone, at around 220,000 FCFA from some online sellers.
What is the difference between the Camon Slim 4G and the Camon Slim 5G?
Both share the same 6.39 mm thickness and a 6.78-inch 144 Hz AMOLED screen. The 5G model moves to the Dimensity 7300e, much faster than the 4G model’s Helio G200, and adds 5G, an 8 MP ultra-wide camera, a 6,000 mAh battery instead of 5,600 mAh, and an IP69K rating. The 4G version keeps faster 60 W charging, versus 45 W, and a mini-LED rear light.
Is the Tecno Camon Slim 5G waterproof?
Yes. It holds IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings, covering dust, prolonged submersion and high-pressure hot water jets. It is also MIL-STD-810H certified against shocks and extreme conditions. That is no excuse to be careless: salt water, chlorine and soap can damage the seals, and liquid damage is often excluded from the warranty. Always dry the USB-C port before plugging in the charger.
How many Android updates will the Camon Slim 5G get?
Tecno promises three major Android updates and five years of security patches. Since it ships with Android 16 and HiOS 16, the phone could therefore receive Android 17, 18 and 19. That is above average for a mid-range Tecno. In practice, rollouts sometimes reach Africa later than Asia: check the system update menu regularly and download over Wi-Fi to save your mobile data.
