Pixel 11 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro: in French shops today, €380 (about 249,000 FCFA) stands between two 6.3-inch phones whose days look nothing alike. Google’s handset stays readable under the midday sun, zooms further and already answers in French through Gemini. Apple’s lasts until the next morning, wins back half its battery in a quarter of an hour and shoots better video than any Android rival. For most buyers we recommend the Pixel at €1,099 (about 721,000 FCFA); videographers, gamers and anyone who always leaves the charger at home have good reasons to pay more.

Introduction: a Pixel 11 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro with €380 between them

Six weeks after launch, the Pixel has already shed €100. The iPhone has not moved by a cent since 18 September. Google sells a very good phone that you should buy marked down, Apple an excellent one that you have to pay full price for. The first has been on sale in France since 20 August (see our launch story), the second was unveiled at the 9 September keynote.

You will not find the full inventory of sensors and refresh rates here. It sits in our Pixel 11 Pro product page and in the one we wrote for the iPhone 18 Pro, and this comparison does not copy them out again. Our question is a different one: what does a day, then a month, feel like with either of them in your pocket?

One thing needs saying first. Nobody on our team has handled either device. This Pixel 11 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro cross-checks published reviews, from L’Éclaireur Fnac and Mac4ever to PhoneArena and The Verge, against the faults reported since the phones went on sale. Where those sources disagree, we tell you.

The Pixel 11 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro verdict in brief

On our product pages the iPhone keeps a lead of one tenth of a point: 8.1 against 8.0. That tenth costs €380. At this price, the Pixel 11 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro tips towards Google for people who take a lot of photos, read outdoors and hold on to a phone for years. The table below hands five rows to each. Price breaks the tie.

Verdict in 30 seconds

8.0/10Our pick

At the €1,099 we recorded in France, the Pixel 11 Pro brings the most readable screen outdoors, the more useful zoom and seven years of support for €380 less than the iPhone 18 Pro. Its chip, its 30 W charging and a battery that only just covers the day leave it behind elsewhere.

For whom People who take a lot of photos, read outdoors and want Gemini in French right now.

Avoid if You game, you shoot video seriously or you often spend more than a day away from a socket.

We like

  • Screen readable in full sun, better anti-glare coating
  • 5x telephoto with a large sensor, very good at night
  • Seven years of updates guaranteed
  • Gemini and Rambler dictation in French
  • €380 less than the iPhone at today's price

We like less

  • Tensor G6 far behind the A20 Pro, runs hot in games
  • One day of battery, with no margin
  • 30 W wired charging, no charger in the box

Design and handling: in the pocket, then with one hand

Same width, down to a tenth of a millimetre: 71.9 mm. Picture a message typed with one hand, standing in a packed bus, and your thumb travels exactly as far on both. The iPhone is 2.7 mm shorter, the Pixel 7 g lighter. Nobody will feel that in a jeans pocket.

What you notice after a month lies elsewhere. T3 warns that the Pixel’s aluminium frame scratches quickly, and Mac4ever levels the same complaint at the iPhone’s rear coating, which marks easily. Both get a class B for drop resistance on the European energy label. In plain terms: a case for everyone.

Here Apple holds a quiet advantage. Cases made for the iPhone 17 Pro fit the 18 Pro, Clubic notes, and iPhone accessories are far easier to find than anything made for a Pixel, including at the stalls of Douala or Abidjan, where Google’s phone remains a rare sight.

Google’s answer is HiLight, a set of LEDs around the flash that light up when the phone lies face down on the table. PhoneArena calls it a gimmick. We agree.

Round winner: the iPhone 18 Pro, by a nose, for its slightly more compact build and the sheer supply of accessories. Of the whole Pixel 11 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro, this is the round that settles the least. Colours and exact measurements are listed in the detailed iPhone page.

Display: which one can you still read at noon, stepping off a motorbike taxi?

Noon at the Ndokoti junction in Douala. You climb off a motorbike taxi and hunt through the app for the next driver’s number plate. No scenario is harsher on a panel, and it is right here that this Pixel 11 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro swings.

Google quotes a 3,600-nit peak, and PhoneArena measured more than 3,000 on a white patch covering 20% of the screen. L’Éclaireur Fnac adds that the anti-glare treatment has improved. Apple promises 3,000 nits outdoors, a small gap on paper. Mac4ever saw something else, though: as soon as the air goes above 30°C, the iPhone’s screen darkens within minutes and falls back to somewhere between 300 and 400 nits while it protects the panel and the battery. That outlet is the only one to have put a figure on it. The iOS 27.0.1 update released on 28 September changed nothing, according to iPhon.fr, which still files overheating in the sun among the unfixed faults.

A Londoner or a Parisian will never see this behaviour in October. In Abidjan or Dakar, it happens every day.

Indoors it is a draw, or close to one. Phonandroid recorded an average Delta E of 1.0 on the iPhone, meaning accurate colours with no tweaking, and no Pixel reviewer reports any drift. Both drop to 1 Hz on a static page, then climb back to 120 Hz the moment a finger starts scrolling.

Round winner: the Pixel 11 Pro. In a hot climate, there is no argument.

Performance: thirty minutes of gaming and the back warms up

Open WhatsApp, switch to the camera, go back to Maps. On those gestures no review reports any slowness, on one side or the other. If your use stops there, skip this round.

Now start a game of Genshin Impact and keep going for half an hour. The numbers set the scale: in Geekbench, Gizmodo logged 4,027 single-core points for the A20 Pro chip, where PhoneArena got 2,332 from the Tensor G6. Two different labs, but an order of magnitude that leaves little doubt. PhoneArena speaks of excessive heat during play, Business Today of smoothness that wears away bit by bit once the settings are pushed up.

The iPhone copes better without being spotless. Phonandroid measured 45°C on the back under sustained load. Mac4ever went further, during a long shoot with a Pro Max: 53°C on the shell and more than ten safety shutdowns in three hours, cut-outs that no other outlet has reproduced. We still take the lesson for anyone filming an open-air wedding at 33°C. Shade, and breaks.

Round winner: the iPhone 18 Pro, by a wide margin. A Pixel 11 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro judged on raw power alone would not deserve an article. The complete scores are gathered in the performance section of our Pixel page.

Photo and video, the round that divides this Pixel 11 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro

Saturday night, an open-air concert, forty metres between you and the stage. You have two options: zoom in for a photo, or film the chorus.

For the photo, take the Pixel. Its 5x telephoto received a much larger sensor this year, and PetaPixel reports a clear gain in low light, with more detail. The iPhone stops at 4x optically, its 8x being a 12 MP crop. Beyond that, Google pushes to 120x with an AI that rebuilds what it cannot see, a result PetaPixel only accepts on non-human subjects. A distant shop sign, yes. The singer’s face, no.

For the video, take the iPhone. Shutter speed can now be set by hand in the Camera app, which removes the flicker of giant LED screens, the curse of every concert recording. On the Pixel side, DXOMARK points to weak stabilisation and rendering when light runs short, and PhoneArena scores video 7.1 out of 10 against 8.1 for stills. Its 8K footage goes through cloud processing. On a metered data plan, forget it.

In daylight, for family pictures, the two are easily a match. The iPhone adds a variable aperture that you have to drive yourself from the Pro controls. Phonandroid mentions flare at night when facing street lamps and focus that sometimes hesitates in the evening. One good point: iOS 27.0.1 removed the coloured artefacts that used to appear at 2x zoom, iPhon.fr reports.

Round winner: the Pixel 11 Pro for stills, which matter more to most of you. The Pixel 11 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro flips if you edit videos for YouTube or TikTok; our full opinion on the iPhone 18 Pro goes through ProRes RAW and the adjustable iris.

Battery life: a day of travel without a charger

You leave for Yaoundé at 6 am and get back to Douala in the evening. A bus ride, GPS, WhatsApp non-stop and a hotspot for the laptop. No socket before 9 pm.

With the iPhone you come home relaxed. 9to5Mac and Clubic talk about a day and a half of use, while Engadget and Phonandroid go as far as two days of ordinary use. With the Pixel things are tighter: T3 ends its busy days almost empty after sixteen hours, and 91mobiles gets roughly six hours of screen-on time. Count on one full day, no more.

The paradox is amusing: the smaller battery, 4,056 mAh in the European version against 4,850, lasts longer. Apple’s chip draws less power, that is all.

Charging widens the gap again. Say you have twenty minutes in a café before setting off: the iPhone recovers half its battery in about a quarter of an hour on a 60 W brick, a little longer if it is warm, according to Mac4ever. The Pixel tops out at 30 W, which means 55% in half an hour and 1 hour 47 minutes for a full tank, by L’Éclaireur Fnac’s count. When the power only comes back for a short hour between two outages, one leaves full (61 minutes measured by Phonandroid) and the other does not. Neither comes with a charger.

Good to know — Both charge wirelessly at 25 W on a magnetic stand. Handy at the office, useless on the road: a 10,000 mAh power bank with its USB-C cable is still the Pixel’s best travelling companion.

Round winner: the iPhone 18 Pro. Nowhere else is this Pixel 11 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro so lopsided in daily life.

Software and AI: what works in French today

You dictate a long message while walking, with hesitations and restarts. On the Pixel, Rambler dictation cleans all of that up and hands back tidy text, in French, Ariase confirms. On the iPhone, Mac4ever has flagged a dictation bug in French since launch, one that version 27.0.1 did not fix, according to iPhon.fr.

The whole round fits in that scene. Gemini is there, straight away, in the language of the buyer. Siri AI, Apple’s new assistant, stays blocked on iPhones in the European Union, with no timetable. Buying this iPhone in France for its artificial intelligence amounts to paying for a promise.

Google deserves its share of blame too. The proactive assistance and the Gemini automations shown in August are not offered in France at launch, Presse-citron says. Check that a feature exists in your language before you make it a reason to buy.

Outside Europe the balance of power may reverse. Apple’s restriction targets the European Union and China. With iOS 27.2, still in beta, Siri AI is due to speak French, and a reader in Cameroon or Senegal with a local Apple account should get access to it. That remains to be confirmed country by country.

That leaves lifespan. Seven years of updates in black and white at Google, five years minimum for Apple, which does better in practice since the iPhone 11 from 2019 still receives iOS 27.

Round winner: the Pixel 11 Pro, in France at least. Seen from Yaoundé, this Pixel 11 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro could well be replayed before the year is out.

Pixel 11 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro price: the real October bill

€1,099 against €1,479. That is the line that counts in this Pixel 11 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro, far more than the official price lists.

Google still shows €1,199 (about 786,000 FCFA) on its French Google Store, but the big retailers sell the 256 GB model for €100 less, and RED by SFR goes down to €1,049 (about 688,000 FCFA) without a contract. Apple holds its prices: €1,479 (about 970,000 FCFA) on its French site and at resellers alike, where we spotted no discount in early October. The real gap therefore reaches €380, the price of a good smartwatch.

Part of what you save today, you give back tomorrow. A Pixel that drops €100 in six weeks will resell poorly in two years. Launched at €1,329, the iPhone 17 Pro could still be found at €1,129 on Amazon in August, according to LesMobiles.

From French-speaking Africa the sums change. Google does not distribute its phones in the region: the Pixel arrives in a suitcase, and a breakdown means sending it back to Europe. Apple has no official store there either, but its resellers exist: in Abidjan, Djokstore listed the iPhone 18 Pro at 1,165,900 FCFA in early October, out of stock. Independent repairers know the iPhone better, and it sells on faster. A second-hand Pixel in Douala will wait for its buyer.

Good to know — The Pixel 11 Pro takes a single nano-SIM, backed up by an eSIM. The European iPhone 18 Pro does the same, but units imported from the United States, Canada or Japan have no tray at all. If your carrier does not offer eSIM, turn them down.

Round winner: the Pixel 11 Pro for a purchase in Europe. Imported into Africa, the iPhone regains the upper hand on service and resale.

Final verdict on the Pixel 11 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro: which should you choose?

Choose the Pixel 11 Pro if you take more photos than videos, if you look at your screen outdoors all day long and if an assistant that understands French is of real use to you. Accept, in exchange, that you will plug it in every evening. At €1,099 the deal is fair; at €1,199 we would hesitate. Reread our complete Pixel 11 Pro page before you confirm the basket.

Pixel 11 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro: frequently asked questions

Pixel 11 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro: which one takes the better night photos?

At the main wide-angle lens the two are very close: the iPhone opens to f/1.48 and L’Éclaireur Fnac ranks the Pixel among the best in low light. The difference shows up with zoom, where the Pixel’s 5x telephoto and its enlarged sensor hold more detail from a distance, according to PetaPixel. For filming at night the iPhone stays ahead, thanks to an adjustable shutter speed that removes the flicker of LED lighting.

Pixel 11 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro: which one has the better battery life?

The iPhone, clearly. Tests by 9to5Mac and Clubic mention a day and a half, despite a battery of only 4,056 mAh in Europe. The Pixel and its 4,850 mAh last one day, sometimes barely: T3 lands close to zero after sixteen busy hours. Charging stretches the gap, with 50% in a quarter of an hour for the iPhone on a 60 W brick, against 55% in thirty minutes for the Pixel.

Does Siri AI work in France on the iPhone 18 Pro?

No. Apple is not rolling out its new assistant on iPhones tied to the European Union and gives no date. Changing the phone’s language unlocks nothing. The older Apple Intelligence tools, for their part, do work in French. Siri AI learns French with iOS 27.2, first for Switzerland and Canada. If the assistant is your reason to buy, the Pixel and Gemini are already there, with a few features still missing in France.

Pixel 11 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro: which one should you buy from Cameroon or Côte d’Ivoire?

Seen from French-speaking Africa, the Pixel 11 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro leans towards the iPhone, in spite of its price. Google does not sell its phones in French-speaking Africa: the Pixel is bought as an import, with no local warranty, and is hard to sell on. The iPhone comes through resellers in Abidjan or Dakar and through batches shipped from Dubai. Insist on an invoice and on a version with a nano-SIM tray if your carrier ignores eSIM. If you have your heart set on the Pixel, have it bought in France and check the model’s 4G bands first.

So this Pixel 11 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro is decided less by a spec sheet than by your diary: where you read your screen, how many hours you spend away from a socket, what you film. Tell us in the comments which one follows you every day, and what annoys you about it.
