Check the network hardware connections

The first question you should ask yourself is whether the router and Wi-Fi modem are turned on or whether the Ethernet network cable is connected to the PC. To be sure, just check it.

Another action you should take is to test the network by connecting from another computer. The objective is to check if the source of the problem is not your device.

If the router and the Wifi modem are turned on, the Ethernet cable is connected but no computer can connect to the Internet, try the following solution.

Restart the return

After making sure that the Internet router’s lights are on and green, turn it off and unplug it from the power outlet:

  1. Unplug the router and modem power cables from the power source. If the modem’s lights remain on, remove its battery.
  2. Wait at least 30 seconds. Reinstall the modem battery.
  3. Reconnect the modem and router to the power source. Wait until the lights on the modem stop flashing.
  4. Wait until the status lights on the router and modem show that they are indeed powered on.
  5. Try to reconnect to your PC.

Your computer will be reconnected to the network with a new IP address. You can also use the following method if the problem is not resolved.

Circumvent the problem on your PC

It is also possible that the source of the connection problem is in your computer. The problem should be resolved as follows:

  1. Make sure that Wi-Fi is enabled on the right corner of the taskbar. If not, activate it by selecting its icon and clicking on WIFI. Also make sure that Airplane mode is turned off.
  2. Click on the network icon on the right side of the taskbar, then on network settings.
  3. Select Manage known networks.
  4. Choose a Wi-Fi network from the list that you recognize and approve of and connect.
  5. If this network signals Connected under the network name, click Disconnect, wait a moment, then reconnect.
  6. Test another network frequency band to connect. For some routers, two network frequency bands appear as separate networks in the list of available Wi-Fi networks: 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. If one of these networks is not working, try connecting to the other network.
  7. Check by its indicator light that the physical Wi-Fi switch on your laptop is turned on.

If your PC still can’t connect to the Internet, run the troubleshooting utility.

Run the network troubleshooting utility

  • Follow the path Start / Settings / Update and Security / Troubleshoot / Other troubleshooting utilities.
  • Under Other, select Network Card / Run.
  • Follow the troubleshooting steps in the utility and see if it solves the problem.

A shortcut is to right click on the network icon in the taskbar and select Troubleshoot.

Windows 11 will run a system diagnostic to repair the Internet connection.
