WhatsApp is preparing to revolutionise user interactions with the introduction of a breakthrough feature: an AI-powered chat button. This latest addition aims to improve the user experience by seamlessly integrating artificial intelligence into chats. In this article, we’ll explore the details of this innovative feature, how to use it and the potential it offers users.
WhatsApp is currently testing a new shortcut button designed to initiate AI-based conversations. Recently identified by WABetaInfo on the beta version of WhatsApp for Android v2.23.24.26, the button is already available on Google Play. The shortcut, strategically placed above the new conversation icon in the chat tab, provides quick access to AI-enhanced chats on WhatsApp.
While the rollout is still limited to a select number of users, you can check if you have access to this feature by tapping on the new conversation icon. From there, select a new AI conversation, agree to the terms and conditions and choose Meta AI or another system to provide instructions. Alternatively, during an ongoing WhatsApp conversation, simply type “@MetaAI” followed by your instructions to activate the AI assistant.
Meta made waves in September with the announcement of its AI generative chatbot for WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram. Currently available in the US and only supporting English, this chatbot engages in text-based interactions with users and can even generate photorealistic images based on text instructions. In addition, Meta is developing 28 more AI personas, with collaborations with celebrities and influencers such as Snoop Dogg, Charli D’Amelio, MrBeast, Kendall Jenner and Paris Hilton.
Microsoft, a key supporter of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, has partnered with Meta to integrate Bing Search into Meta AI’s conversation capabilities. The collaboration aims to improve search capabilities in AI-based chat, providing users with a more comprehensive and seamless experience.
