TCL Unveils NXTPAPER 11 with Second-Generation Display Technology

TCL unveiled the second generation of its NXTPAPER display technology at MWC 2023 and the first tablet to use it, as well as a more affordable tablet with a standard display. The company also launched at the same time the TCL 40 XE 5G, X 5G and XL phones that we have featured in other articles.

Characteristics of TCL NXTPAPER 11

The TCL NXTPAPER 11 is smaller than the 12-inch tablet advertised at CES and cheaper too – it costs less than half. The new slate features a 10.95-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2,000 x 1,200 pixels (15:9), which has a special coating that gives it a paper-like texture. This is paired with an optional pen that supports the pen that can detect 4,096 different pressure levels.

NXTPAPER 2.0 technology is much brighter than the original and can reach 500 nits. The anti-glare design makes it usable even under intense ambient light and a dedicated light sensor adapts the color temperature of the display to this ambient light.

The tablet is powered by a Helio P60T chipset and lacks mobile connectivity (the NXTPAPER 12 Pro makes 5G thanks to its Kompanio 800T chip). It runs Android 13 and has advanced multitasking features such as split-screen and floating window modes. Storage is expandable via the microSD slot.

Local connectivity is handled by Wi-Fi 5 (ac) and Bluetooth 5.0. The 8MP front camera has a 100° wide lens and there are two mics and four speakers on board, making this slate well suited for video calls. There’s also an 8MP camera on the back.

The tablet is only 6.9mm thick, weighs 462g, and has a built-in 8,000mAh battery. This is charged via USB-C with the included 18W charger.

Availability and pricing

The TCL NXTPAPER 11 will be available in Europe from May and will then be expanded to other regions. The slate is priced at $250, the T-Pen stylus is sold separately. TCL also offers other accessories, including a Bluetooth keyboard, flap case, and TP screen protector.
