Sony WF-1000XM5: improved wearing comfort and fast charging

Soon to be available, Sony’s flagship TWS buds, the WF-1000XM5, are set to make a splash on the wireless headphone market. Although details are still scarce, it is possible to take stock of the information that has leaked so far, hinting at significant improvements over the previous generation.

A better wearing experience

The new earphones will be smaller and lighter than their predecessors, weighing in at just 5.9g, a reduction of 1.4g per earphone. This weight reduction, combined with their more compact format, should offer a considerably improved wearing experience.

Fast charging of the Sony WF-1000XM5

The Sony WF-1000XM5 will also feature fast charging, allowing full charging in just 3 minutes, providing up to one hour of use. Compared to the 5 minutes needed to fully charge the previous generation, these Sony TWS buds will be more convenient to use for people on the move.

Improved voice pick-up

The new TWS buds will also offer improved voice pick-up, although it’s not clear whether this is due to better quality microphones or better processing. Either way, it should improve the overall user experience.

Sony WF-1000XM5 multipoint connectivity

With multipoint connectivity, the Sony WF-1000XM5 earphones offer a more convenient connection experience for users with multiple devices. It will also make it easier to switch between devices without having to reconnect the earphones each time.

Battery life will remain the same

Despite the improvements to the Sony WF-1000XM5 earphones, the 24-hour battery life is expected to remain the same as the previous generation. The battery in the charging box can be recharged via USB-C or wirelessly with Qi charging.

If the leaked images are to be believed, the aesthetics of the new headphones have also been reworked, with a sleeker, more compact and rounded design. While pricing and availability details are not yet known, the Sony WF-1000XM5 TWS buds should offer an enhanced experience for audiophiles and people on the go.
