With its new foldable generation made official on July 22, Samsung now offers three very different devices: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 in a new wide format, the high-end Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and the Galaxy Z Flip 8 clamshell. Three formats, three budgets, three uses. Pre-orders are open, with general availability on August 7, 2026. To help you decide, here’s a clear comparison: what sets them apart, and above all which one is right for you.
The essentials at a glance
- Galaxy Z Flip 8 — the compact clamshell, from €1,299. The thinnest (6.1 mm open) and lightest (180 g), 6.9″ inner screen, big Flex Window cover screen. For those who want style, a pocket format and the best price.
- Galaxy Z Fold 8 — the new « wide » format, from €1,999. A 5.5″ cover screen (tablet-like), 4,800mAh battery (26h of video), the lightest Fold. For content consumption and creation.
- Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra — the premium foldable, from €2,199. The thinnest, Flex Titanium hinge, 5,000mAh battery, S Pen support. For productivity and maximum power.
All three share the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, One UI 9 (Android 17) and the Galaxy AI suite.

Galaxy Z Flip 8: the pocket foldable, the most affordable
The Z Flip 8 is the entry point. Its clamshell format, once open, behaves like a classic 6.9-inch smartphone, but folds to fit the smallest pocket. This generation makes it thinner (6.1 mm) and lighter (180 g) than ever, and its enhanced cover screen (Flex Window under One UI 9) lets you check notifications, widgets and selfies without even opening it. It’s the ideal choice if you want a compact, stylish and affordable phone, without needing a big unfolded screen. Its one real trade-off remains battery life, more limited than on the Folds.
Galaxy Z Fold 8: the big screen for everyone
The standard Z Fold 8 changes philosophy with its new wide format: shorter and wider, its 5.5-inch cover screen makes it closer to a small tablet. Samsung designed it for content consumption (video, games, reading) and creation, with a more natural grip and a 4,800mAh battery rated for 26 hours of video playback. It’s the lightest Fold ever made. It’s for those who want a big foldable screen day to day, without necessarily aiming for maximum power or the S Pen.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra: power and the S Pen
The Z Fold 8 Ultra keeps the traditional elongated Galaxy Fold format and targets the most demanding users. It’s the thinnest Fold ever designed, debuts the Flex Titanium hinge (which markedly reduces the crease), packs the range’s biggest battery (5,000mAh) and is the only one to support the S Pen. It’s the device for power users: heavy multitasking, note-taking, advanced mobile productivity. In return, it’s also the most expensive.
Battery life: an accessory that changes everything
Whichever model you choose, battery life remains foldables’ Achilles’ heel, especially on the Z Flip 8. A good-capacity power bank is the best ally to never run flat on the go.
The Anker PowerCore 20,000 mAh power bank recharges a smartphone three to four times and fits in a pocket.

Which foldable for which profile?
- You want the best price and a compact format → Z Flip 8 (€1,299). Ideal as a second phone, for style, or for anyone who finds big screens bulky.
- You want a big screen to watch, read and create → Z Fold 8 (€1,999). The best balance of comfort, lightness and price among the Folds.
- You want maximum power, the S Pen and the classic format → Z Fold 8 Ultra (€2,199). For professionals and heavy users.
What it means for you
With this range, Samsung finally covers every need: the affordable clamshell, the mainstream big screen, and the premium foldable. Our advice: first identify your real use (pocket format vs big screen vs productivity) before looking at price. And take advantage of the pre-order offers (6 months of Google AI Pro free, Mystery Box, trade-in) before the August 7 general availability. When in doubt, wait for the independent reviews to confirm real battery life and screen quality.
