The Meta Ray-Ban Display goes on sale in France on 13 October 2026 at €899 (about 590,000 FCFA), Meta Neural Band wristband included, a year after its US release. These are Meta’s first glasses with a screen: a small colour display set into the right lens, driven by slight finger movements. Reviews published across the Atlantic praise the wristband and the legibility of the image, but some of the features are still missing in Europe. At this price, the glasses are aimed at well-off early adopters and enthusiasts, not at the general public.
Introduction: the Meta Ray-Ban Display finally reaches France
Meta unveiled the Meta Ray-Ban Display on 17 September 2025 at its Connect conference and put it on sale in the United States on 30 September 2025 at $799 (about €735, or 482,000 FCFA, before local taxes). France, Italy, the United Kingdom and Canada were due to follow in early 2026. In January, at CES, the company froze everything: it cited demand that outstripped its stock and US waiting lists that already stretched over several months.
The thaw came at Connect 2026, in late September. The United Kingdom (£749) and Canada (CA$1,149) were served straight away. France, Italy and Germany follow on 13 October, at a single price of €899. The hardware has not changed: this is the 2025 model, with an extra year of updates.
In the range, the Meta Ray-Ban Display sits above the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 and the new Gen 3, sold from €449 (about 295,000 FCFA), which film and talk but show nothing. This guide draws on the published specifications and on press reviews. Our newsroom has not handled the product.
Verdict in brief: our view of the Meta Ray-Ban Display

Three figures sum up the Meta Ray-Ban Display specs. First, the 42 pixels per degree: that is finer than most virtual reality headsets, which makes text comfortable to read. Then the 5,000 nits, which keep the image visible in full sun. Finally the 69 g, around twenty grams more than a Ray-Ban Meta without a screen: that is the price of fitting a projector into a temple arm.
Design: the Meta Ray-Ban Display is a thicker Wayfarer at 69 g
From the front, the Meta Ray-Ban Display frame borrows the Wayfarer outline that made Ray-Ban’s smart glasses a success. Up close, the difference is obvious. The rim is thicker, the arms are wide and the bridge is chunky. Frandroid describes a fairly imposing frame around the lenses and along the arms.

Two sizes, two colours
Meta offers two sizes, Standard and Large, and two finishes: glossy black and sand, a translucent beige. That is a thin choice next to the 27 combinations of the Gen 3. The whole thing is rated IPX4 according to GSMArena: it withstands splashes and sweat, not a tropical downpour.
Prescription lenses: a narrow range
Every Meta Ray-Ban Display comes with Transitions photochromic lenses, clear indoors and tinted in the sun. People who wear glasses can order prescription lenses, but the range remains limited: from -4 to +4 dioptres, sphere and cylinder combined, in single-vision lenses only according to Selectra. Progressive lenses are not offered.
In France, prescriptions can be ordered from 13 October at opticians in the EssilorLuxottica network. The right lens contains the waveguide that carries the image: it cannot be replaced by just any optician once the pair has been delivered.
Display: a colour screen hidden in the right lens
The image appears in the lower right corner of your field of view, a little like a watch held at arm’s length. It switches off as soon as you stop using it, and the lens then goes back to being an ordinary lens.
Smart glasses with a display you can finally read outdoors
The Meta Ray-Ban Display screen shows 600 x 600 pixels across a 20-degree field of view, or 42 pixels per degree, at 90 Hz. Brightness ranges from 30 to 5,000 nits and adjusts on its own. American reviews agree that messages are readable outdoors, the weak point of almost every pair of smart glasses with a display released before.
An image other people cannot see
Meta quotes less than 2% light leakage towards the outside. The person in front of you therefore sees neither a glow nor a reflection in the lens when you read a message. A miniature projector housed in the arm sends the image into a waveguide built into the lens, which explains the thickness of the frame.
The limits of a monocular display
The image is shown to the right eye only. Several reviewers, including those at UploadVR, report discomfort or eye strain after long sessions, as the brain has to merge one eye that sees the screen with another that does not. Trying a pair in a shop before buying is essential.
Do not expect augmented reality in the strict sense either. As a researcher at IMT Atlantique quoted by Réalité-Virtuelle.com points out, the Meta Ray-Ban Display does not precisely overlay virtual objects on real ones. It shows a fixed information panel, nothing more.
Performance: Snapdragon chip, neural wristband, AI and audio
A chip for glasses, not for a phone
The engine of the Meta Ray-Ban Display is a Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1, the chip already found in the screenless Ray-Ban Meta. GSMArena pairs it with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, enough to keep more than 500 photos or around a hundred 30-second clips. The link runs over Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6.
The glasses do almost nothing on their own. With no SIM card, they rely on the Meta AI app on an iPhone or an Android phone for the connection, messages and the assistant. Without a smartphone in your pocket, little is left besides the camera.
Meta Neural Band: the wristband that reads your muscles
The Meta Neural Band comes in the box. This 42 g fabric wristband uses surface electromyography to measure the electrical signals that the forearm muscles send to the fingers. A pinch of thumb and index finger confirms, a pinch with the middle finger goes back, sliding the thumb along the index finger scrolls, and a turn of the wrist adjusts the volume.
Your hand can stay at your side or in a pocket: no camera needs to see it. This is the element published reviews applaud most. The wristband comes in three sizes, lasts 18 hours and is water resistant (IPX7). Since launch, Meta has added handwriting input: you trace letters with a finger to reply to a message.
Meta AI, calls and audio
The Meta AI assistant responds by voice and, now, in writing and in images inside the lens. WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram messages are displayed, as are WhatsApp video calls, where the other person sees what the camera is filming. Sound comes from two open speakers housed in the arms: fine for a podcast, limited on the underground.
Camera: 12 megapixels and a viewfinder in the lens
The 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera on the Meta Ray-Ban Display produces 3,024 x 4,032 pixel photos and vertical video in 1080p at 30 frames per second according to Road to VR, while GSMArena mentions 3K capture. Digital zoom goes up to 3x and is adjusted by turning the wrist.
The novelty lies in framing. On the screenless Ray-Ban Meta, you shoot blind. Here, the display acts as a viewfinder and lets you check the image before sharing it. Since Connect 2026, Meta has also announced Dolby Atmos sound. The sensor remains tiny: dark scenes fill up with noise.
Battery life: six hours for the Meta Ray-Ban Display, plus a folding case
Meta promises up to six hours of mixed use, with the screen lit intermittently. Continuous navigation or video calls make that figure melt away. A Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3, with no screen, claims nine hours.
A case that folds flat
The charging case adds a further 24 hours, for 30 hours in total. It folds flat when empty and slips into a jacket pocket. Twenty minutes in the case restores about 50% of the battery.
The wristband charges separately, with its own charger. Its 18 hours cover a day, but that makes three batteries to keep an eye on: the glasses, the case and the Neural Band. On the move, or during a long power cut, that is a real constraint.
Software: what works in France, what is still missing
The Meta Ray-Ban Display runs Meta’s own system, with no app store in the Android sense. An Explore app is due to list experiences from third-party developers later in the year.
Features available at launch
- WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram messages and calls, with previews of the photos and videos you receive.
- Meta AI answers in text and images, triggered by voice or with a double tap of the thumb.
- Photo and video viewfinder, wrist-controlled zoom, gallery of your latest captures.
- Music control with the current track shown on screen.
- Pedestrian navigation with a map, in a limited list of cities; Nouvelles-Technologies.eu mentions only Paris for France.
Features that are missing or delayed
According to Selectra, live captions, which transcribe what the person in front of you is saying, only work in English for now. Cycling directions and public transport timetables are reserved for the United States and Canada. The calendar app is starting out in American English.
Hologram calls, which replace your face with a photorealistic avatar on WhatsApp, are in early access in the United States this autumn, with no date for France. Selective forwarding of phone notifications is announced for Europe at a later stage, according to Mixed.
Good to know — before buying, check on Meta’s website the list of features that are active in France on the date of your order. It changes from one update to the next.
Privacy: the sore point
The Meta Ray-Ban Display films, and the screen changes nothing about that. A white LED lights up next to the lens during capture, and the glasses refuse to record if it is covered. Stuff nevertheless points out that British pubs and theatres have already banned Meta’s Ray-Bans from their premises.
What you owe the people you film
In France, filming someone in a private place without their consent is an offence, and publishing the image of a recognisable person without permission makes you liable under image rights law. Warn people, and take the glasses off wherever you are asked to.
What Meta does with your data
Voice requests and images submitted to Meta AI go to the company’s servers and can be used to improve its models, under conditions set out in the app’s privacy policy. An investigation by the Swedish press published in early 2026 claimed that subcontractors in Kenya were viewing footage captured by these glasses to annotate data. Spend ten minutes in the app’s settings switching off whatever can be switched off, especially the storage of voice recordings.
Meta Ray-Ban Display price and availability in France and Europe
Meta Ray-Ban Display price and where to buy
The official Meta Ray-Ban Display price is €899 (about 590,000 FCFA) in France, Italy and Germany, glasses and wristband included. It is £749 in the United Kingdom, CA$1,149 in Canada and remains at $799 (about €735, or 482,000 FCFA) before tax in the United States. Prescription lenses are charged on top.
In France, pre-orders have been open on Meta’s website since the Connect conference. Sales begin on 13 October 2026 online and in a shop in Paris, where you can try the pair on and have your wrist measured. The official product page lists sizes and stock.
As of 3 October 2026, we found no listing at Amazon.fr, Fnac, Darty or Cdiscount. The manufacturer details the product in its launch announcement.
And in West and Central Africa?
No release of the Meta Ray-Ban Display has been announced in Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire or Senegal. You have to go through a relative in France or an import reseller, and budget at least 590,000 FCFA before shipping and customs duties. Meta’s warranty only applies in the country of purchase, and no local optician will be able to replace the lens that contains the screen.
On the network side, there is no frequency band to check: everything runs over the phone’s Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. On the other hand, the assistant and navigation use mobile data, and the features depend on the account’s region. Nothing guarantees that Meta AI will respond outside the countries where the glasses are sold.
Pros and cons
Pros
- A display that is readable outdoors, discreet for those around you and switches off when you do not need it.
- A control wristband praised by reviews for its precision, supplied at no extra cost.
- A viewfinder for framing photos and videos, which screenless glasses lacked.
- Photochromic lenses as standard and a case that folds flat.
- A genuine pair of prescription glasses is possible, within the -4 to +4 dioptre limit.
Cons
- €899, double the price of a Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3.
- A display in one eye only, a source of fatigue for some wearers.
- A thick 69 g frame, offered in just two colours.
- Captions, calendar, Hologram and cycling directions absent in France at launch.
- Complete dependence on the smartphone and on Meta’s ecosystem.
Alternatives to the Meta Ray-Ban Display
Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2)
Valve Steam Frame
Light Phone III
Direct competition remains thin in France. The sensible option is found at Meta itself: the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 does the essentials, photos, music and voice assistant, for far less money. For gaming and immersive video, a headset like the Steam Frame meets a different need. And if your goal is to look at screens less instead of adding one in front of your eye, the Light Phone III tackles the problem from the other end.
Conclusion: should you buy the Meta Ray-Ban Display?
The Meta Ray-Ban Display proves that a screen can fit in an almost normal frame and that a wristband can replace the touchscreen. On both counts Meta is a step ahead, and reviewers say so without reservation.
The rest calls for patience. The French price remains well above the US price before tax, the feature list has been trimmed, and the monocular display does not suit every pair of eyes. For most readers, a pair without a screen or waiting for the next generation remains the sensible choice.
Good to know — the Meta Ray-Ban Display has to be earned. Try it in a shop, check that your prescription falls within the -4 to +4 range, and only buy if the features already available in France are enough for you as they stand.
Frequently asked questions
How much does the Meta Ray-Ban Display cost in France?
The glasses cost €899 (about 590,000 FCFA) in France, with the Meta Neural Band wristband, the folding charging case and photochromic lenses included. The price is the same in Italy and Germany. Prescription lenses cost extra and are ordered from opticians in the EssilorLuxottica network. In the United States, the same pair is listed at $799 before tax.
When does the Meta Ray-Ban Display come out in France?
Sales start on 13 October 2026, online and in a shop in Paris. Pre-orders opened in late September, during the Meta Connect 2026 conference. The product has been sold in the United States since 30 September 2025. The European release was planned for early 2026, then Meta suspended it in January for lack of stock.
Can you wear these glasses with prescription lenses?
Yes, within certain limits. The accepted prescription runs from -4 to +4 dioptres, sphere and cylinder combined, and only single-vision lenses are offered. Progressive lenses are not compatible for the time being. In France, orders are placed with an EssilorLuxottica optician from 13 October 2026. Because the right lens includes the waveguide for the screen, it cannot be changed elsewhere after delivery.
What is the Meta Neural Band wristband for?
It replaces the mouse and the touchscreen. Its sensors read the electrical activity of the wrist muscles and recognise small gestures: pinch to confirm, slide the thumb to scroll, turn the wrist to adjust the volume or the zoom. Your hand can stay in a pocket. It offers 18 hours of battery life, is water resistant (IPX7) and comes in three sizes.
Does the Meta Ray-Ban Display work in Cameroon or Côte d’Ivoire?
It is not officially sold there. An imported pair connects to a phone over Bluetooth and takes photos, but the warranty only applies in the country of purchase and the features tied to Meta AI depend on the account’s region. Nothing ensures that the assistant, navigation or translation will be active. Budget at least 590,000 FCFA before shipping and customs.
