The Galaxy S26 is Samsung’s compact flagship for 2026: a 6.3-inch, 167 g phone that sold for €999 (about 655,000 FCFA) when it launched in March and can now be found for between €650 and €700 at the big French retailers. At that price, it is one of the few small Android phones supported for seven years, with a superb display and the new Exynos 2600 chip. It remains slow to charge, average for night photography and less enduring than the American version. Here is what it is really worth in late 2026, and for whom.
Introduction: the Galaxy S26, the small one in the range, seven months on
Samsung unveiled its S26 series on 25 February 2026 and put it on sale on 11 March. The base model is the smallest and cheapest of the three, below the S26+ and the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which sells for €1,469 (about 964,000 FCFA) and is the only one to keep the stylus, the periscope zoom and the privacy display. Since September, an S26 FE has rounded off the family at the lower end.
The official price has gone up by about €100 compared with the S25. Samsung has dropped the 128 GB version, so the entry point is now 256 GB for €999, and the 512 GB model climbs to €1,199 (about 786,000 FCFA). The increase comes against a backdrop of expensive memory, which we covered in detail in our article on the RAM shortage.
The Galaxy S26 targets a specific audience: people who want a high-end device they can handle with one hand and keep for a long time. This page relies on Samsung’s data, on the reviews published since March (Clubic, TechRadar, DXOMARK, Back Market) and on our own analysis. Seven months on, prices have moved and the flaws are documented.
Verdict in brief: an excellent compact phone, as long as you do not pay €999 for it
Verdict in 30 seconds
The Galaxy S26 combines a superb display, a 167 g body and seven years of software support. At around €650 to €700, it is a solid buy; at €999, its slow charging and unchanged camera are hard to accept.
For whom Those who want a compact, well-finished Android phone supported until 2033, for everyday use rather than intensive gaming.
Avoid if You play for long stretches, you often shoot at night or you want two days of battery life and fast charging.

Three figures matter in this table. The battery goes from 4,000 to 4,300 mAh, a modest but real gain in a 7.2 mm body. The 2 nm process of the Exynos 2600 is a first on a smartphone, and it is what determines heat and stamina. Finally, the 25 W charging has not moved for years, while Chinese rivals routinely go beyond 80 W.
Galaxy S26 vs Galaxy S25: what really changes
The question comes up with every S24 or S25 owner. The short answer: few visible changes, several under the bonnet. Back Market, which compared the two generations, speaks of deliberate continuity.
- Display: 6.3 inches instead of 6.2, with a newer and more frugal OLED panel.
- Chip: Exynos 2600 in Europe and Africa in place of the Snapdragon 8 Elite of the S25.
- Battery: 4,300 mAh against 4,000 mAh, wired charging unchanged at 25 W.
- Storage: 256 GB minimum, the 128 GB version disappears.
- Camera: same sensors, new processing and a 24 MP mode.
- Price: €999 at launch against €899 (about 590,000 FCFA) for the base S25.
Our reading is simple. If you have an S25, nothing justifies moving to the Galaxy S26. Coming from an S22 or an S23, the gain is clear on the display, stamina and length of support.
Galaxy S26 design: 167 g, flat edges and a matte finish
The Galaxy S26 measures 149.6 x 71.7 x 7.2 mm and weighs 167 g. That is a few grams more than the S25, quoted at 162 g, but it remains very light for a phone in this category. At less than 72 mm wide, the thumb reaches almost the whole screen without any gymnastics.
Samsung keeps an aluminium frame and covers the front and back with Gorilla Glass Victus 2, with a matte back that shows few fingerprints according to the first-look report published by L’Éclaireur Fnac. The three lenses are lined up vertically, with no large protruding block.
Durability, IP68 and colours
The IP68 rating guarantees resistance to dust and to immersion in fresh water. It is reassuring in a tropical downpour, but covers neither sea water nor drops. A case is still advisable, all the more so because Victus 2 glass is not the anti-reflective Gorilla Armor reserved for the Ultra model.
Four colours are sold everywhere: black, white, sky blue and cobalt violet. Two extra shades, silver and rose gold, are reserved for Samsung’s online store.
Display: a 6.3-inch OLED panel that comes close to flawless
The Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel of the Galaxy S26 measures 6.3 inches and shows 2,340 x 1,080 pixels, or about 409 pixels per inch. It is flat, of the LTPO type, and varies its refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz depending on what is on screen. Samsung quotes a peak of 2,600 nits.
Reviewers are unanimous on this point. Clubic gives it 10 out of 10 and TechRadar finds it perfectly readable in direct sunlight. That is a concrete argument in Douala or Dakar, where people often check their phone outdoors, in harsh light.
What the Ultra keeps for itself
Two refinements are missing. The first is the anti-reflective treatment of the glass, which removes a good share of reflections on the larger model. The second is the privacy display, the feature that darkens the screen when viewed from the side. The Full HD+ resolution, on the other hand, is no problem at all at this size.
Performance: the Exynos 2600 holds up, the heat catches up with it
In Europe, Africa and most countries, the Galaxy S26 runs on the Exynos 2600, the first mobile chip built on a 2 nm process, backed by 12 GB of RAM. North America, China and Japan get a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
What are the Exynos 2600 scores worth?
Clubic records 3,154,185 points on AnTuTu, then 3,200 and 11,023 points on Geekbench 6 in single-core and multi-core, and 6,674 points on 3DMark Wild Life. TechRadar, which tested a Snapdragon unit, gets 3,616 and 10,827 points on Geekbench 6. The gap is narrow: the in-house chip is finally playing in the same league.
Gaming and heat
Things go wrong under sustained load. Clubic describes uneven thermal management, with fluctuating smoothness in demanding games. TechRadar measures about 45 °C on the chassis during heavy tasks, and its 3DMark score falls from 6,933 to 2,962 points over the course of the stability test.
For messaging, browsing or a twenty-minute game, you will not notice anything. For an hour of 3D gaming in a hot room, the phone will throttle its performance. Keen gamers would do better to look at a OnePlus 16, which is thicker and better cooled.
Camera: three familiar sensors and revised processing
The camera hardware of the Galaxy S26 is identical to that of the S25: a 50 MP main sensor (f/1.8, 24 mm, 1/1.56 inch, stabilised), a 12 MP ultra-wide at 120 degrees and a 10 MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom, also stabilised. The front camera stays at 12 MP. What is new lies in the software, with a 24 MP mode and reworked image processing.

By day: flattering, reliable images
In good light, the reviews agree. TechRadar speaks of saturated, appealing images, Clubic of natural colours, and DXOMARK praises a wide dynamic range, consistent exposure and sharp group portraits thanks to a deep depth of field. The 3x zoom works well for a face or an architectural detail.
At night and when zooming: the limits of small sensors
DXOMARK gives the Galaxy S26 146 points, which puts it at around 48th place in its ranking. The lab points to noise, white balance shifts and a loss of detail in low light, as well as autofocus that is sometimes unstable. Notebookcheck sums it up: a level comparable to that of an iPhone 14 Pro.
Beyond 10x, images degrade quickly, Clubic notes. If photography is your priority, a Pixel 11 or a Xiaomi 18 Pro with its two 200 MP sensors will go further, while remaining compact.
Video: the quiet strong point
The Galaxy S26 shoots up to 8K at 30 frames per second. Above all, DXOMARK awards it 151 points for video, with stabilisation and colour accuracy judged close to those of the Ultra. For stories or family videos, it is a safe choice. One UI 9 adds My FanCam, which automatically tracks and reframes a subject.
Battery life and charging: one day, no more, and only 25 W
The 4,300 mAh of the Galaxy S26 are enough for a full day. Clubic ends a typical day with 20 to 25% of battery left, and TechRadar notes a drain of only 4 to 5% overnight.

Galaxy S26 battery life: Exynos against Snapdragon
A comparison by the Android Addicts channel, picked up by GSMArena, caused a stir. On an identical routine (calls, maps, social networks, video), the Exynos model shut down after 6 hours 48 minutes, while the Snapdragon model lasted 2 hours 38 minutes longer, or about 39% more stamina. The European version also interrupted a 4K recording because of overheating.
This is a single test, carried out on two units, but it tallies with the observations about heat. In intensive use, with 5G on and the screen pushed to maximum, you will end the day with a thin margin.
Charging: the real shortfall
Wired charging tops out at 25 W. Clubic measures about 55% in 30 minutes and more than 80 minutes for a full charge; TechRadar records 18% in 15 minutes and 1 hour 35 minutes in total. That is a long time when the power only comes back an hour after an outage.
Wireless charging reaches 15 W and reverse charging 4.5 W, enough to top up a pair of earbuds. The Galaxy S26 is Qi2 compatible, but without built-in magnets: you need a magnetic case to use magnetic accessories.
Good to know — The charger is not included. A 25 W USB-C Power Delivery brick with PPS is enough; there is no point buying anything more powerful.
Software: One UI 9, Galaxy AI and support until 2033
The Galaxy S26 launched on Android 16 with One UI 8.5. Samsung promises seven years of system and security updates, which means support until March 2033. No Chinese competitor commits that far, and this is what makes the purchase defensible over time.
The stable version of One UI 9, based on Android 17, began rolling out on 16 September 2026 in Korea, before reaching parts of Europe, Africa and Asia according to Android Authority. The schedule varies by country and by carrier.
Galaxy AI day to day
The artificial intelligence features are numerous: Circle to Search, an object eraser in photos, call summaries with Call Brief, the Now Brief dashboard with customisable cards, and a relaunched Bixby that relies on Perplexity. One UI 9 adds document scanning and scam detection.
Clubic gives the software 10 out of 10, while TechRadar is more reserved and finds the interface cluttered at times. Both are right: One UI is rich, stable and highly customisable, but it piles up menus and duplicate apps.
Galaxy S26 price and availability: France, Europe, West and Central Africa
The official price of the Galaxy S26 has not changed: €999 (about 655,000 FCFA) for 256 GB and €1,199 (about 786,000 FCFA) for 512 GB. Nobody should be paying that today. Amazon offered it at €699 (about 459,000 FCFA) during Prime Day in June, then at €649 (about 426,000 FCFA) at the end of July with a charger, according to Journal du Geek and Phonandroid.
At the end of September, Lesmobiles spotted an offer at €541 (about 355,000 FCFA) on the Cdiscount marketplace. It concerns an American version with a single SIM card, different 5G bands and a non-EU warranty. Stick to European models.

In West and Central Africa
Samsung officially distributes its phones in Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal and Cameroon, and it is the Exynos version of the Galaxy S26 that is sold there. In Abidjan, the retailer Mitec lists the 256 GB model at about €747 (489,900 FCFA), with a 24-month warranty. We did not find a reliable public price for Cameroon: check in shops in Douala or Yaoundé, where prices vary a great deal from one store to another.
Importing from France remains tempting given the promotions. The European version takes two SIM cards, physical or eSIM, and covers the 4G bands used by carriers in the region. Do ask the seller whether the warranty applies outside Europe, though, because in principle it is regional.
Pros and cons
Pros:
- A small format that is rare at the high end: 6.3 inches, 167 g, 7.2 mm.
- Very bright LTPO OLED display, given top marks by several reviewers.
- Seven years of updates and One UI 9 available from autumn 2026.
- 256 GB of storage as a minimum and 12 GB of RAM.
- Stable, accurate video, close to that of the Ultra model.
Cons:
- 25 W charging: more than an hour and twenty minutes for a full charge.
- Night photography and zoom fall short for a phone launched at €999.
- Heat and throttling during long gaming sessions.
- Exynos version less enduring than the Snapdragon version.
- No Qi2 magnets, no privacy display and no charger in the box.
These scores bring together the published reviews and our analysis of the spec sheet. They hold for a purchase at around €650 to €700; at the official price, take off half a point.
Alternatives to the Galaxy S26
Xiaomi 18 Pro
The Pixel 11 is the most direct competitor of the Galaxy S26: same 6.3-inch diagonal, same official price of €999, but 4,985 mAh and 30 W charging. The Xiaomi 18 Pro, still reserved for China, fits 7,000 mAh into 6.4 inches and shows what Chinese brands can do with a small format.
Within the same family, the Ultra model brings the zoom, the stylus and faster charging for several hundred euros more. The S26 FE, announced from €799 (about 524,000 FCFA) according to the prices reported by Phonandroid, makes no sense at that price as long as the model above it can be had for less.
Conclusion: should you buy the Galaxy S26 in late 2026?
Yes, but not at any price. At around €650 to €700, you get a compact, elegant phone with one of the best displays on the market and support until 2033.
At €999, the 25 W charging, the unchanged camera and the heat of the Exynos become hard to defend against the Pixel 11 or the Chinese flagships. And if you can wait, the next generation is expected in early 2027: it will push the price of this one down further.
Our pick
Samsung Galaxy S26 with 256 GB — the right buy for anyone who wants a compact, long-lasting Android phone, provided you get it on promotion, at around €650 to €700 (about 426,000 to 459,000 FCFA), in the European dual-SIM version.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Galaxy S26 price in France in October 2026?
The official price remains €999 (about 655,000 FCFA) for 256 GB and €1,199 (about 786,000 FCFA) for 512 GB. In practice, the big retailers have regularly sold it for between €650 and €700 since the summer, sometimes with a free 25 W charger. Be wary of lower offers on marketplaces: they often involve imported versions without a European warranty.
Does the Galaxy S26 have an Exynos or a Snapdragon chip?
It depends on the country. In France, the rest of Europe and Africa, the device uses Samsung’s Exynos 2600, built on a 2 nm process. North America, China and Japan get the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Raw scores are close, but published reviews show that the Exynos version runs hotter and lasts less long under heavy use. Only the Ultra model uses the Qualcomm chip worldwide.
How long does the Galaxy S26 battery last and how quickly does it charge?
The 4,300 mAh battery provides a full day of mixed use, with 20 to 25% left in the evening according to Clubic. Under heavy use, a comparative test saw the Exynos model shut down after 6 hours 48 minutes. Charging is the weak point: 25 W wired, which means about 55% in 30 minutes and between 1 hour 20 and 1 hour 35 minutes for a full charge. Wireless charging tops out at 15 W.
Should you choose the Galaxy S26 or the Galaxy S25?
The 2026 model brings a slightly larger display, 300 mAh more, 256 GB from the entry level and an extra year of support. The camera sensors and charging speed are identical. If you already own an S25, keep it. If you are buying today, take the newer one as soon as the price gap falls below a hundred euros or so.
Is the Galaxy S26 waterproof and how long will it be updated?
It is IP68 rated, so it is protected against dust and immersion in fresh water. This protection does not cover salt water and weakens after a drop or a repair. On the software side, Samsung promises seven years of Android and security updates, meaning until March 2033. One UI 9, based on Android 17, has been rolling out since 16 September 2026.
For detailed specifications and colours, Samsung’s official page is the reference. Still hesitating over the larger model? Comparing the Galaxy S26 Ultra with the iPhone 17 Pro Max, its closest rival in that size, will help you decide.
