The Legion Go 2 from Lenovo has the finest screen ever fitted to a handheld gaming PC, an 8.8-inch OLED panel running at 144Hz, but its price has gone off the rails: at least €1,679 (about 1,101,000 FCFA) on the Lenovo France website in early October 2026, against €999.99 a year earlier. Detachable controllers, a kickstand, a 74Wh battery: the Legion Go 2 is as much a gaming tablet as a console. It is aimed at players who want a big screen on the move and have a gaming laptop budget. For everyone else, the competition does almost as well for far less money.
Introduction: the Legion Go 2, a big screen and a big bill
Lenovo unveiled the Legion Go 2 in early September 2025 at IFA in Berlin. It follows the 2023 Legion Go and keeps the original idea: a huge screen, controllers that come off like those of a Switch and a kickstand for playing with the device set on a table. Sales began in autumn 2025, with Windows 11 on board.
Two AMD chips share the range. The Ryzen Z2 powers the entry model, sold for €999.99 (about 656,000 FCFA) at launch in France. The faster Ryzen Z2 Extreme drives the top version, launched at €1,299 (about 852,000 FCFA) with 32GB of memory and 1TB of storage. An edition running SteamOS, the Steam Deck’s operating system, joined the line-up in June 2026.
In the meantime, soaring component costs turned everything upside down. Our article on the RAM shortage and DDR5 prices explains the causes in detail, and the Legion Go 2 is one of the most visible casualties. This page is based on the official specifications and on published reviews. Our newsroom has not handled the device.

Three lines matter in this table. The screen first: 8.8 inches of OLED, where a ROG Xbox Ally X makes do with a 7-inch IPS panel. Then the battery, up from 49 to 74Wh from one generation to the next. Finally the memory: 32GB on most European models, a comfort for the integrated graphics chip, and the main reason for the bill.
Legion Go 2 design: a 920g tablet between two controllers
Start with the size. With its controllers attached, the Legion Go 2 measures 29.6cm wide, 13.7cm tall and 4.2cm thick at the grips. It weighs 920g according to Lenovo, 922g on Notebookcheck’s scales. That is 280g more than a Steam Deck OLED and 205g more than a ROG Xbox Ally X.
Lenovo has nonetheless worked on the shape. The angular edges of the first model give way to rounded grips, closer to a real gamepad, and reviewers welcome the change almost unanimously. Notebookcheck, which compiles 17 reviews, reports an average of 92% for ergonomics. The weight is still there: beyond an hour, it is better to fold out the kickstand.
A kickstand and a case in the box
The central part, without controllers, is a 710g tablet that is 2.3cm thick. A wide kickstand folds out at the back and holds the screen at the chosen angle. Lenovo includes a rigid carrying case, an accessory Asus charges extra for.
The chassis has no water or dust resistance rating: in a dusty climate, the air vents need regular cleaning. Another limitation noted by Windows Central is that replacing the SSD means removing the battery and the fan.
Ergonomics and controllers: detachable, Hall effect and FPS mode
The two controllers, which Lenovo calls Legion TrueStrike, come off at the press of a button and keep working wirelessly. Their sticks use Hall effect sensors, a magnetic technology that prevents joystick drift. A small touchpad on the right controller stands in for a mouse under Windows.
The Legion Go 2 therefore lends itself to four ways of playing:
- handheld mode, controllers attached, as on any other console;
- console mode, screen resting on its kickstand and a controller in each hand;
- FPS mode, with the right controller clipped onto a supplied base and used like a vertical mouse;
- tablet mode, for video, browsing or touch games.
FPS mode divides opinion. Gizmodo finds its sensor clumsy, and Digitec files the detachable controllers under marketing gimmicks. Our reading is more nuanced: for playing on a train table or sharing the screen, the formula makes sense. In ordinary handheld play, it mostly adds weight and width.
Display: an 8.8-inch 144Hz OLED panel, the strong point
This is the number one argument for the Legion Go 2. The PureSight OLED panel shows 1,920 x 1,200 pixels in a 16:10 format, or 257 pixels per inch. The first model went up to 2,560 x 1,600 pixels on an IPS panel. Lenovo has lowered the resolution, and it is a good decision: no integrated chip can run a recent game at 1600p.
HDR and variable refresh rate
The refresh rate varies from 30 to 144Hz depending on how many frames the game produces. This variable refresh rate smooths out stutter when a title hovers between 40 and 60 frames per second, which is everyday life on a handheld. Brightness reaches 500 nits in normal use and about 1,100 nits at HDR peak, with VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1000 certification.
Published measurements back up the spec sheet. Windows Central records full coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space and calls it the best screen seen on a handheld. Notebookcheck gives the display 94% in its round-up of reviews. The panel is glossy: in direct sunlight, reflections will get in the way.
Legion Go 2 performance: Ryzen Z2 Extreme or Ryzen Z2
The high-end Legion Go 2 carries the Ryzen Z2 Extreme: eight Zen 5 cores, sixteen threads, a 5GHz peak and a Radeon 890M graphics chip with sixteen RDNA 3.5 cores. It is the same foundation as at Asus or MSI. The Ryzen Z2 in the entry model relies on an older architecture, with eight Zen 4 cores and a twelve-core graphics section.

What the in-game measurements say
Windows Central measured just under 39 frames per second in Cyberpunk 2077 with the Steam Deck preset, and 36 frames per second in Shadow of the Tomb Raider at high quality. That is respectable for an integrated chip, and a very long way from a laptop with a dedicated graphics card sold at the same price.
The Ryzen Z2 does better than expected. On the ETA Prime channel, quoted by Notebookcheck, it holds about 73 frames per second in Forza Horizon 5 at medium settings and 16W, and nearly 58 in Elden Ring at 1,600 x 1,000 and 25W. Power can be set from 8W in quiet mode up to 45W in custom mode.
Heat and noise: nothing alarming
The large chassis leaves room for cooling. On the Legion Go 2, Windows Central recorded 35dB at arm’s length and 51dB right at the vents, with a temperature of about 51°C at the air outlet. Not every review agrees: Digitec obtained lower frame rates than on rival machines with the same chip, and could not put it down to the drivers.
Game library and compatibility: Steam, Game Pass and the rest
Under Windows 11, the Legion Go 2 is a complete PC. Steam, the Epic Games Store, GOG, Battle.net, Xbox Game Pass for PC, games protected by kernel-level anti-cheat such as Fortnite or Call of Duty: everything installs. The Xbox full-screen interface, first seen at Asus, was rolled out to it in 2026 and avoids going through the desktop at start-up.
Under SteamOS, the catalogue narrows to the Steam library, run through the Proton compatibility layer. Most games work, but those whose anti-cheat rejects Linux remain out of reach, and Game Pass is only available through cloud gaming.
Good to know — On a capped mobile connection, plan your downloads ahead. A recent game commonly weighs 60 to 150GB. Once the games are installed, Steam’s offline mode works on both systems.
Battery life and charging: 74Wh for two to five hours of play
The 74Wh battery is one of the real steps forward on the Legion Go 2. It is half as large again as that of a Steam Deck OLED (50Wh) and close behind the 80Wh of the ROG Xbox Ally X. The large OLED screen does draw more power than a 7-inch panel, though.
Legion Go 2 battery life: the published measurements
Windows Central got 2 hours 17 minutes in Cyberpunk 2077, 5 hours 18 minutes in Celeste, a light game, and 11 hours 30 minutes in office work. Digitec reaches 2 hours 20 minutes in the same Cyberpunk. That is comfortably average for the category. With indie or older games, four to five hours are within reach if you limit the power to around fifteen watts.
Charging goes through either of the two USB4 ports, using Power Delivery, with a 65W adapter. Check the box, though: in the United States the charger is included, but some European references are sold without an adapter, on the grounds of the European common charger directive. During power cuts, a 65W Power Delivery power bank recharges the Legion Go 2 without any trouble.
Software: Windows 11 or SteamOS, you have to choose
Windows 11 Home remains the default system, supplemented by Legion Space, the in-house launcher that gathers game libraries and power settings. The criticism applies to every Windows handheld: overlapping menus, windows designed for a mouse, updates in the middle of a game. Digitec speaks of a fragmented interface.
Legion Go 2 SteamOS: simpler, sometimes faster
Lenovo had ruled out the idea in September 2025, then changed its mind at CES in January 2026. The SteamOS version arrived in June 2026, with the same hardware and a US starting price of $1,199, or about €1,025 before tax (about 672,000 FCFA). What you gain is instant sleep and an interface that can be driven entirely with the controller.
The gain is not just cosmetic. Gizmodo recorded two to ten more frames per second under SteamOS than under Windows, on identical hardware. Two trade-offs are worth knowing: the fingerprint reader in the power button no longer serves any purpose, according to Windows Central, and games tied to an Xbox account require workarounds.
Price and availability: from €999.99 to €1,679 in a year
No handheld has seen its price tag move as much as that of the Legion Go 2, and the prices found from one site to the next vary widely.
Legion Go 2 price: what it costs in France in October 2026
At launch, the Ryzen Z2 model cost €999.99 (about 656,000 FCFA) and the Ryzen Z2 Extreme model €1,299 (about 852,000 FCFA). In early April 2026, Xboxygen found prices of €1,749.99 (about 1,148,000 FCFA) and €2,299.99 (about 1,509,000 FCFA) on the Lenovo France website.
On 3 October 2026, the official Legion Go Gen 2 page at Lenovo France shows a starting price of €1,679 (about 1,101,000 FCFA), with a shipping delay of five to six weeks. Online retailers go lower: PcComponentes lists the Ryzen Z2 Extreme version with 32GB and 1TB at €1,599 (about 1,049,000 FCFA), without a charger.
We found no verifiable product listing at Amazon.fr, Fnac, Darty or Cdiscount. Lenovo has not announced a retail price in euros for the SteamOS edition.
In West and Central Africa: importing, with no local warranty
Lenovo does not officially distribute the Legion Go 2 in Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire or Senegal. In South Africa, the retailer Computermania offered it at 24,999 rand, or about €1,230 (about 807,000 FCFA) at the approximate rand exchange rate, before it sold out. From Douala or Abidjan, buying one means going through a relative in Europe or a freight forwarder, with customs duties on top. The warranty is that of the country of purchase, and sending the device back for repair is at your own expense. The machine has no modem, so there is no question of network bands: it connects over Wi-Fi or through a phone’s hotspot.
Against the competition: Legion Go 2 vs ROG Xbox Ally X and Steam Deck OLED
The direct rival of the Legion Go 2 is the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X. Same Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip, 24GB of memory, 80Wh, 715g and €999.99 (about 656,000 FCFA). It loses on the screen, a 7-inch IPS panel. Its replacement, the X20, with a 7.4-inch OLED screen, is announced for 15 October 2026 at €1,399.99 (about 918,000 FCFA).
The Steam Deck OLED plays in a different league: €779 (about 511,000 FCFA) since May 2026, a 7.4-inch screen at 1,280 x 800 pixels and a markedly slower chip. Our Switch 2 vs Steam Deck OLED vs ROG Ally comparison sets these machines against Nintendo’s console.
At the other end, the GPD Win 5 goes for raw power with a chip from the Ryzen AI Max family, at an even higher price. And if you mostly play in the living room, Valve’s Steam Machine, from €1,039 (about 682,000 FCFA), offers more graphics power for less money.

Alternatives to the Lenovo Legion Go 2
Valve Steam Deck OLED
GPD Win 5
Each one answers a criticism levelled at the Legion Go 2. The ROG Xbox Ally X offers the same chip for about €680 less, the Steam Deck OLED halves the outlay, and the GPD Win 5 targets those for whom only the level of performance counts.
Conclusion: should you buy the Legion Go 2 in 2026?
Technically, the Legion Go 2 is a success. The screen is the best in the category, the detachable controllers bring real flexibility and the SteamOS edition fixes the main software flaw. At €1,299, it was an expensive but defensible machine.
At €1,679 and above, the sums no longer add up for most players. For that amount, you can buy a ROG Xbox Ally X and a fine library of games, or a laptop with a proper graphics card. The Legion Go 2 keeps an audience: those who are set on that 8.8-inch panel and on kickstand play. If you are one of them, watch for offers under €1,300.
Good to know — Before paying, check four points on the seller’s listing: the chip (Ryzen Z2 or Z2 Extreme), the memory (16 or 32GB), the system (Windows 11 or SteamOS) and whether the charger is included.
Frequently asked questions
What is the price of the Legion Go 2 in France in 2026?
The Lenovo France website lists the Legion Go 2 from €1,679 (about 1,101,000 FCFA) in early October 2026. It was launched at €999.99 with the Ryzen Z2 and at €1,299 with the Ryzen Z2 Extreme, before climbing to €2,299.99 in April 2026 because of rising memory and storage costs. Some retailers offer the Z2 Extreme version with 32GB and 1TB at around €1,599, sometimes without a charger.
Is there a Legion Go 2 with SteamOS?
Yes. Lenovo announced a SteamOS edition at CES in January 2026 and launched it in June 2026, from $1,199 in the United States. The hardware is identical to that of the Windows version: 8.8-inch OLED screen, Ryzen Z2 Extreme at most, up to 32GB of memory and 2TB of storage. Games whose anti-cheat blocks Linux will not launch, and Lenovo has not published a price in euros.
How long does the Legion Go 2 battery last in games?
With its 74Wh battery, the Legion Go 2 lasts between 2 hours 15 minutes and 2 hours 20 minutes in a demanding game such as Cyberpunk 2077, according to measurements by Windows Central and Digitec. In a light game, Windows Central went past 5 hours, and 11 hours in office work. Lowering the brightness and capping the game at 40 or 45 frames per second are the most effective settings for gaining time.
Legion Go 2 or ROG Xbox Ally X: which one should you choose?
Both consoles share the Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip, so performance is close. The Legion Go 2 wins with its 8.8-inch OLED screen, its detachable controllers and its kickstand. The Asus is 205g lighter, more compact, fitted with an 80Wh battery and sold for €999.99, about €680 less. Unless you are particularly attached to the big screen, the ROG Xbox Ally X is the more rational purchase.
Can you buy the Lenovo console in Cameroon or Côte d’Ivoire?
Not through an official channel. Lenovo does not sell the Legion Go 2 in West and Central Africa. The safest option remains a purchase in France or Belgium, brought back by a relative or shipped by a freight forwarder. Allow for customs duties and a 65W USB-C charger, and bear in mind that the warranty only applies in the country of purchase.
