SHAREit is a file sharing app launched in 2013 by Lenovo, which is still visible in its Android package name. It is now run by SHAREit Technologies, a separate company. You use it to send photos, videos, music, documents or apps from one device to another.
What SHAREit is for
The two devices connect to each other directly over Wi-Fi rather than through the internet, so large files go across without eating into your mobile data. SHAREit also has a phone clone feature for moving contacts, photos and apps to a new handset, plus a file manager. Over the years the app has picked up a video and music player, a content feed and a downloader.
Who is it for?
SHAREit is mostly useful if you often swap files between devices from different makers. For a quick transfer between two Android phones or two Apple devices, built-in tools such as Quick Share or AirDrop do the same job without ads. The app was among the 59 apps banned in India in June 2020.

The official version is available on the Google Play Store, the App Store for iPhone and the Mac App Store. It’s free, shows ads and offers in-app purchases. Avoid APK files from third-party sites and keep the app updated, since the flaws reported in 2019 and 2021 were fixed in later versions.
