iflix is a streaming service that started in Malaysia. In 2020 Tencent bought its catalogue and technology and folded it into WeTV, its international streaming platform. The app is now called “iflix: Asian & Local Dramas” and is published by Image Future, the Tencent company that also publishes WeTV.
What iflix is for
iflix carries series, films, variety shows and anime, with a strong focus on Chinese, Korean and Thai dramas and on shows made in the countries it serves. The app picks up where you left off, lets you choose the picture quality (360p to save mobile data, up to Full HD), offers subtitles in several languages and lets you swipe to change volume and brightness. The VIP tier removes ads, speeds up downloads and allows two devices to watch at the same time.
Who is it for?
The service is aimed at South and Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. The iPhone app isn’t on the French App Store, and the catalogue may be limited or blocked from Europe. For Asian dramas in France or Italy, WeTV, from the same group, and Viki are both on the local app stores.
Download iflix safely
Get iflix from the Google Play Store, where it is published by Image Future, or watch on iflix.com. Signing up is free and VIP is optional. Be wary of look-alike apps promising free films under a similar name; they have nothing to do with the service.
