Galaxy Tab A9 vs Galaxy Tab S6 Lite

With so many tablets available on the market, it can be difficult to choose the model that best suits your needs. Two of Samsung’s most popular options are the Galaxy Tab A9 and the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at these two tablets. Whether you’re looking for a light and compact tablet, a high-performance tablet or a tablet with a superior display quality, we’ll help you decide which of these two tablets is right for you.

Concept and design

The Galaxy Tab A9 measures 211 x 124.7 x 8 mm and weighs 332 g. It is more compact and lighter than the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, which measures 244.5 x 154.3 x 7 mm and weighs 467 g. Users who prefer thinness and lightness will be more comfortable with the Tab A9.

Both tablets come in three stylish colours: Graphite, Silver and Navy, for the Tab A9 and Chiffon Pink, Angora Blue and Oxford Grey for the Tab S6 Lite, each offering aesthetic choices to suit different styles. The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite adds to its aesthetic appeal with a glass front, aluminium back and aluminium frame for added strength.

Screen

The Galaxy Tab A9 and Galaxy Tab S6 Lite are equipped with TFT LCD technology screens. But the Tab A9’s 8.7-inch screen is smaller than the Tab S6 Lite’s 10.4-inch screen.

What’s more, with its 1200 x 1200 pixel resolution screen, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite offers better display quality, greater sharpness and better reproduction of detail for a more immersive visual experience. In fact, this resolution is higher than that of the Galaxy Tab A9’s 800 x 1340 pixel screen.

Camera

Both Samsung tablets are equipped with 8MP main cameras. Both are capable of recording 1080p video at 30 fps.

Except that the camera on the Galaxy Tab A9 incorporates auto-focus, allowing the device to automatically adjust the sharpness of the image and enabling users to capture images from near or far without having to manually adjust the focus settings.

While the camera on the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite incorporates features such as: HDR which is used to capture multiple images at different exposures, combining them to produce a single image with high dynamic range; panorama which allows multiple images taken in succession to be captured and stitched together by moving the camera around a scene.

The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite can take better selfies. In fact, it has a 5 MP selfie camera, a higher resolution than the 2 MP selfie sensor on the Galaxy Tab A9.

Performance

The Galaxy Tab A9 is powered by the Mediatek MT8781V/CA Helio G99 chipset (6nm) and a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. It is available in two variants: 64GB of storage with 4GB of RAM, or 128GB of storage with 8GB of RAM.

The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, meanwhile, is powered by the Exynos 9611 chipset and a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. With 4GB of RAM, it is also available in two variants: 64GB and 128GB of internal storage.

The MediaTek Helio G99 performs better in tasks related to the central processing unit (CPU), graphics (GPU), memory management (RAM) and input/output. Compared to the Exynos 9611. In AnTuTu benchmark tests on these points and in different scenarios, the Mediatek Helio G99 scores 415846 while the Exynos 9611 scores 247822. So it’s clear that the Tab A9 outperforms the Tab S6 Lite.

Battery life

The Galaxy Tab A9 is equipped with a non-removable 5100 mAh Li-Po battery. This is less powerful than the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite’s battery, a 7040 mAh Li-Po. Both tablets support 15W wired fast charging, which is limited compared to other tablets in a similar range.

However, the Tab A9’s processor consumes battery power more efficiently than the Tab S6 Lite’s processor. This gives the Galaxy Tab A9 better battery life.

Availability and price

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A9 has been available since 5 October 2023 at a price of around €180. It is more recent and less expensive than the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, which has been available since 16 May 2020 at a price of around €380.

Verdict

The Galaxy Tab A9 is an affordable option for those looking for a slim, high-performance tablet with reliable battery life. The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is certainly a tablet to consider for those looking for a great visual experience with its superior screen and photo performance. But the Galaxy Tab A9 certainly stands out thanks to its better value for money.
