Every year, many new graphics cards appear on the market. As a result, gamers who wish to build a PC that can handle the most important new features have to choose from a wide selection, which goes beyond price differences to take into account other features that are more or less valuable.
And for this reason, we have prepared a list of the best AMD graphics cards you can buy in 2023.
With an almost unbelievable score in benchmark tests and a price that is firmly in the budget segment of the market, the AMD Radeon RX 5700 is one of the most important graphics cards on the market. Retailing at almost a quarter of the cost of high-end cards like the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, the 5700 doesn’t miss a beat and, with a resolution of 1440p, it allows modern AAA games to run at high, even maximum, settings.
In fact, the performance of the RX 5700 was so strong that it even eclipsed the other king of mid-range GPUs, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060, which is at least in part thanks to an extra 2GB of VRAM. What should be noted here, however, is that while the RX 5700 beats the 2060 in terms of speed, it lacks its real-time ray tracing capabilities.
The lack of ray tracing aside, there’s nothing to complain about with the AMD Radeon RX 5700, and especially with its low price. And for that reason, it’s easy for us to recommend it as the best value graphics card of 2023 for most people.
With the 8GB AMD Radeon RX 570 card, you get very decent gaming performance for a small price, and this card is a perfect example of why AMD is so often favoured by gamers looking for value for money.
Buying in the mid-range of the market does mean some compromises in terms of power, but if you’re happy with 1080p gaming, the 2048-stream processors, 1244MHz core clock speed and 8GB of on-board memory will do you proud.
The Polaris architecture is no longer the latest or greatest AMD architecture, but we think you’ll get great frame rates in your favourite games at a great price.
While not one of the newest graphics cards, the AMD Radeon RX 590 packs a powerful punch. It’s one to consider if Nvidia’s high-end graphics card prices are giving you a headache.
Built in 12nm, it has 2,304 GPU cores, a clock speed of 1,545MHz and 8GB of VRAM (GDDR5) to power your games, making it undoubtedly one of the best AMD graphics cards available today.
While there isn’t a massive performance increase over cards prior to the Radeon RX 590, there is a performance increase, and you won’t be disappointed with the frame rates you’ll get from this card.
More than just specs, this is a card that aims to improve thermals and efficiency, and it holds up very well against Nvidia and AMD graphics cards at this price point. Definitely one of the best graphics cards out there.
If you wish to achieve 1440p resolution with your games without spending a huge amount of money in the process, then the AMD RX Vega 56 is one of the best graphics cards you should consider, combining performance and price.
With a speed of 1520MHz, it’s also capable of a 50MHz overclock, which is sure to please those looking to get the best frame rates their system can handle, and it’s a card that excels at heat management too.
While it shows its age a little compared to the newest cards on the market, it’s still a very decent proposition for gaming in 2023, even in the best titles the market has to offer.
The Radeon RX 7900 XTX is the most powerful and at the same time a clear representative of this new generation. It costs a little more, but offers great numbers and is generally a more balanced card. One improvement we have seen in this generation, which the brand shares with its latest processors, is that they combine high operating frequencies while retaining the power profiles of the previous generation.
This model runs on a 355W thermal design with two 8-pin PEG connectors of 150W each as main power connectors and takes the rest of the PCI Express 4.0 16x interface, which should provide up to 150W on compatible motherboards.
The Radeon RX 7900 XTX is built using a seven slot design, the main one being the GCD, which has the largest surface area of 300mm2 and is manufactured using the TSMC 5N process. This design is accompanied by six other slots that surround it, forming the 96MB Infinity Cache 2.
These flakes have a surface area of 37 mm2 and are manufactured using an older, less expensive process based on TSMC’s 6N technology. Although they have less cache than the previous generation, they offer access speeds up to 2.7 times faster, reaching 5.3 TBps.
The AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT features a thick, triple-fan cooler extended to 100mm with dual BIOS and triple power connectors.
In addition, the GPU vapor chamber is used to improve temperatures. AMD also offers the RDNA 2 upgrade on the 6950 XT version, which increases the GPU and memory clock rate to 2250MHz, as well as the TBP or total power consumption to increase performance.
Moving on to the RX 6950 XT Gaming OC’s port configuration, which will surprise no one: 1 x HDMI 2.1, 3 x DisplayPort 1.4a. The HDMI 2.1 port is the most powerful and supports 8K APS at 120 Hz, as well as uncompressed 4K at 144 Hz.
The Radeon RX 6500 XT replaces the previous generation RX 5500 XT in terms of power, but comes with a price increase due to the current economic climate. As it only has 4GB of video memory, its overall performance is better than the 4GB RX 5500 XT and the 8GB RX 5500 XT.
However, AMD stated a few years ago that 4 GB was not enough for a graphics card. It also has a limiting feature, namely a PCIe 4.0 4 connection, which indicates that it is intended for computers with this particular type of connection for the graphics card.
On a computer with a PCIe 3.0 connection, the performance drop can be as much as 10%. The drop in performance compared to PCIe 3.0 can be significant if the four gigabytes of VRAM it has is also exceeded.
The Radeon RX 7900 XT is a slightly cheaper variant of the 7900 XTX, offering around 10% more performance in FHD, while the difference intensifies to 20% in UHD. As the price difference is only 900 USD or 1060 euros RRP, it is not very significant.
Therefore, gamers who will be using a UHD display will wish to choose the 7900 XTX, while those using an FHD or QHD display may be interested in the 7900 XT.
Today, AMD has an answer for every new NVIDIA model, as is the case with the RX 5700 XT, which is the answer to the RTX 2070.
This card offers great value for money to meet the demands of 1440p gamers with demanding graphics settings. One of the main advantages of AMD graphics cards is that the company keeps a close eye on them, including frequent updates that include new technologies and a long list of important optimisations.
In addition, it supports AMD Freesync, which is now sadly, even on the horizon, we forgot to use ray tracing on this card.
Many gamers have limited funds. Therefore, while faster graphics cards may seem attractive if you are using a 1080p display, they are not appropriate. The RX 580 8GB model, which is quite similar to the GTX 1060 6GB, is further optimised in several areas.
In fact, it improves its performance and becomes more powerful. This graphics card has good connectivity and does not emit any annoying sounds. Despite the fact that this product consumes a lot of power, it is the market leader.
Its 8 GB memory makes it more interesting than, for example, a GTX 1060 with 3 GB. You can rely on the reliability and speed of this model, which offers good value for money, to enjoy high-quality game graphics on a 1080p screen. You won’t find a better product on the market for Full HD!
