Which to choose between the Motorola Moto G13 and the Galaxy A14?

With a reputation for offering some of the best phones around, just like its direct rival Apple, Samsung launched its Galaxy A14 at the start of the year, offering some interesting features.

In this competitive smartphone industry, Motorola is trying to stand out from the crowd with its mid-range Moto G13, which has a number of features in common with the Galaxy A14.

In this article, we’ll be comparing the Samsung Galaxy A14 with the Motorola Moto G13 in a number of ways to determine which is the better of the two. We’ll be looking at design, layout, display, performance, camera, battery, price and availability.

Design and conception

Motorola’s smartphone measures 162.7 x 74.66 x 8.19 mm and weighs 183.45 g. The Galaxy A14 measures 167.7 x 78 x 9.1 mm and weighs 201g. It is therefore slightly longer, wider, thicker and heavier than its rival.

Both dual SIM devices feature a glass front supported by a plastic frame and back. However, Motorola’s phone is tougher as it adopts a water-repellent, splash-resistant design. So in terms of water resistance, it’s better than the Galaxy A14, which isn’t waterproof.

The Moto G13 comes in matte charcoal, rose gold and lavender blue. The Galaxy A14 comes in 4 colours: black, silver, light green and dark red. As with most new Android smartphones, both feature a fingerprint reader.

If design is one of your concerns, opt for the Moto G13, which combines elegance and robustness. This phone offers a much more handsome and robust design than the Galaxy A14, which is a bit of a classic.

Display of Motorola Moto G13 vs Galaxy A14

Motorola’s Moto G13 features a 6.5-inch IPS LCD screen, compared with the 6.6-inch LCD screen of the Galaxy A14. The Moto G13’s screen offers an HD+ resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels at a density of 270 dpi. The Galaxy A14’s display, meanwhile, offers a higher resolution of 2408 x 1080 pixels at a density of 400 dpi

The Moto G13’s screen is brighter than that of the Galaxy A14, with a maximum brightness of 400 nits, a refresh rate of 90 Hz, a touch sampling rate of 576 Hz and is protected by Panda Glass.

The Moto G13 offers better display quality and has the brightest screen. Even though the Galaxy A14’s screen has the best resolution, in terms of display, Motorola’s phone is better than Samsung’s.

Performance duel between the Moto G13 and Galaxy A14

The Moto G13 houses a Mediatek Helio G85 chip (2.0 GHz octa-core CPU) accompanied by a Mali-G52 MC2 GPU. This chip is backed up by 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded with a Micro SD card up to 512 GB.

Pour ce qui est des performances du Galaxy A14, ce dernier est animé par un SoC Mediatek Helio G80 couplée à un GPU Mali-G52 MC2. Côté mémoire, l’appareil dispose de 4 Go de RAM associé à 64 Go de stockage interne extensible jusqu’à 1 To.

Galaxy A14 camera versus Motorola Moto G13

Both cameras have a 50MP main sensor, combined with a 2MP depth sensor and LED flash. However, the Moto G13’s macro sensor is 2 MP, compared with 5 MP for the Galaxy A14.

For selfies, the Moto G13’s front panel houses an 8MP front camera, compared with the Galaxy A14’s 13MP front camera. If the various camera tests carried out by Nanoreview are anything to go by, the two devices are almost equivalent in terms of photography.

The photos taken with these two phones are fairly basic and not as good as those taken by the competition. So if you’re looking for a phone that’s much more about taking photos, these two devices won’t quite live up to your expectations.

Battery and charging for the Samsung Galaxy A14 and the Motorola Moto G13

Both phones are powered by a non-removable 5,000 mAh Li-Po battery. The Motorola phone supports a wired charge of between 10 and 20W, while the Samsung phone supports a wired charge of 15W. In this respect, the two devices are on a par and offer fairly good autonomy.

Price and availability of the Samsung Galaxy A14 and Motorola Moto G13

The Motorola Moto G13 was announced on 24 January 2023 and has been available in France since the start of this year. On the manufacturer’s official website, it is priced at €199. You can also buy it from retailers such as Amazon, Fnac and Cdiscount.

The Galaxy A14 was made official on 28 February 2023 and is already available in France. On Samsung’s official website, it costs €219.

Motorola Moto G13 vs Galaxy A14: What’s the verdict?

Both phones have their advantages and limitations. The Galaxy A14 has a pleasant One UI interface and the best display resolution.

However, its ageing design, lack of storage space and performance compared with the competition, its price and its 60 Hz screen with low brightness and contrast make it less attractive than the Motorola device, which costs €20 less.

The Galaxy A14 is a smartphone suited to users with basic needs. However, a version of the A14 supporting 5G is also available for an additional €30.

From this comparison guide, Motorola’s phone offers better display quality, better water resistance, a more aesthetic design, better performance and is also less expensive than its rival.

So if you have to choose between the Motorola Moto G13 and the Samsung Galaxy A14, we strongly advise you to opt for the Motorola smartphone, which offers better value for money.
