Rog Phone 7 Ultimate vs Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro: Which one to choose?

Asus has already released its Rog Phone 7 Ultimate joining the Red Magic 8 Pro from Nubia which continues its adventure started on the market since the end of December 2022. Does the Red Magic 8 Pro have strong enough arguments to face the Rog Phone 7 Ultimate? This article will help us answer this question.

Design and screen of the Rog Phone 7 Ultimate and the Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro

The Rog Phone 7 Ultimate and the Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro are both designed with a glass front and back, and an aluminum frame. The former incorporates a pressure-sensitive area, game triggers. The pressure-sensitive area of the second is 520 Hz touch-sensing type. Asus has equipped the back of its smartphone with a 2-inch OLED display, while Nubia’s smartphone has a built-in cooling fan.

The Rog Phone 7 Ultimate is larger and heavier than the Red Magic 8 Pro. Indeed, it measures 173 x 77 x 10.3 mm and weighs 239 g against 164 x 76.4 x 8.9 mm with 228 g for the smartphone of Nubia which then offers a lighter and more comfortable grip. Nothing is known yet about a certification for the Red Magic 8 Pro, however, the Rog Phone 7 Ultimate is IP54 certified, resistant to water splashes and dust.

Both smartphones carry AMOLED displays. With a diagonal measurement of 6.78 inches, the Rog Phone 7 Ultimate’s screen is smaller than the Red Magic 8 Pro’s screen, whose diagonal measurement is 6.8 inches. The Asus phone is equipped with HDR10+ displaying in 1080 x 2448 pixels while the screen of the Nubia smartphone displays in 1116 x 2480 pixels.

The refresh rate of the Rog Phone 7 Ultimate’s screen (165 Hz) and its maximum brightness (1500 nits) give it a better display than the screen of the Red Magic 8 Pro. Indeed, the latter has a lower refresh rate of 120 Hz and a maximum brightness of 1300 nits.

Who of Rog Phone 7 Ultimate and Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro has the best camera

The Rog Phone 7 Ultimate and the Red Magic 8 Pro have triple-sensor cameras on the back. These two cameras each incorporate a 50 MP wide angle main sensor. But the Rog phone 7 Ultimate camera has a 13 MP ultra wide angle and 5 MP macro while the Red Magic Pro camera shoots with an 8 MP ultra wide angle and 2 MP macro.

The Rog Phone 7 Ultimate offers even better on selfie with a 32 MP front camera, compared to the 16 MP selfie camera of the Red Magic 8 Pro.

Performance and power of the Rog Phone 7 Ultimate and the Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro

Both phones, are equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip with Adreno 740 graphics card; this processor is combined with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage for the Rog Phone 7 Ultimate, 8/12/16 GB of RAM and 128/256/512 GB of internal memory for the Red Magic 8 Pro. We cannot forget to mention that both smartphones run on Android 13.

Battery and power supply of Rog Phone 7 Ultimate and Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro

The batteries of both smartphones are Li-Po 6000 mAh. However, the Rog Phone 7 Ultimate’s battery is powered by a 65W wired charge that Asus says can fill up in 42 min. The Red Magic 8 Pro battery is powered by an 80W wired charge (Chinese version) that can fill up in 35 minutes, or a 65W wired charge (international version) that can fill up in 43 minutes according to Nubia. A reverse wired charge is also available for the Asus smartphone.

Both manufacturers announce an endurance rating of 131 h for each of their batteries.

Price and availability of the Rog Phone 7 Ultimate and the Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro
The Rog Phone 7 Ultimate is available since April 13, 2023 at a price of 1400 €. It is twice as expensive as the Red Magic 8 Pro available since December 28, 2022 at a starting price of $669 (608 Euros).

Which to choose between the Rog Phone 7 Ultimate and the Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro

The Rog Phone 7 Ultimate and the Red Magic 8 Pro which are Gaming type smartphones will obviously suit gaming fans. Their performance and power are almost equal. Except that the Red Magic 8 Pro does not do better on the display and photo and video rendering than the Phone 7 Ultimate. But the more affordable price of Nubia’s smartphone could work in its favor.
