The Huawei Mate 60 Pro is the first phone with three holes in the screen

Huawei recently took everyone by surprise when it launched the Mate 60 Pro, its latest flagship smartphone, without a major advertising campaign or launch event. The phone is now available for pre-order on Vmall, Huawei’s online shop in China, allowing local customers to reserve their units in advance.

Design

In terms of design, the Mate 60 Pro features a sleek, modern back that enhances its premium appearance. While details on colour options are not yet available, we can expect stylish and attractive choices that match Huawei’s aesthetic.

The most striking feature of the Huawei Mate 60 Pro is the trio of perforations in the screen, where Huawei has cleverly integrated the selfie camera as well as the 3D ToF sensor. Apart from this feature, the phone represents a significant evolution compared to its predecessor.

Specifications of the Huawei Mate 60 Pro

The Mate 60 Pro is equipped with a large 6.82-inch OLED LTPO display, offering a resolution of 2,720 x 1,260 pixels and an adaptive refresh rate of 120 Hz. For better screen protection, Huawei has used second-generation Kunlun glass

The trio of perforations on the screen houses the same configuration as that found on the Mate 40 Pro and Mate 50 Pro: an ultra-wide 13MP selfie camera accompanied by sensors and lasers for 3D facial mapping used for the Face ID facial recognition function.

At the back of the phone, we find a group of three other cameras. We have a 50MP main camera with OIS (optical image stabilisation) and PDAF (phase detection autofocus) – a unit we’ve already seen on the Mate 50 Pro and P60 Pro – with a variable lens aperture ranging from f/1.4 to f/4.0. The ultra-wide-angle camera features a 12MP sensor and f/2.2 lens, while the third camera has a 48MP sensor with f/3.0 telephoto lens, OIS and AF (autofocus).

The Huawei Mate 60 Pro supports satellite messaging in China, offering improved connectivity even in the most remote areas. The phone’s 5,000mAh battery is compatible with 88W ultra-fast wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and even offers 20W reverse wireless charging functionality.

The phone runs on HarmonyOS 4.0, making it the first phone with this out-of-the-box user interface. However, Huawei has yet to confirm the chipset used by the Mate 60 Pro.

The Huawei Mate 60 Pro promises to be a powerful smartphone capable of pushing the boundaries of mobile technology. With cutting-edge features, a high-quality camera and a powerful battery, the Mate 60 Pro promises to satisfy even the most demanding users.

The Mate 60 Pro is already available for pre-order in China, with global availability to be announced shortly. Another piece of information missing from the announcement: the phone’s processor is still unknown.
