The advanced features of Sony’s new DualSense controller

World technology leader Sony could well revolutionise the gaming experience with its next-generation DualSense controllers. According to a recent patent filing, Sony is considering incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) into its controllers, offering gamers valuable assistance during difficult gaming challenges.

New features in Sony’s DualSense controller

At the time of writing, Sony already offers DualSense in basic and Edge variants (Edge is essentially the Pro version). However, patent filings suggest that the Japanese tech giant is preparing a new generation of DualSense, with major changes to the design. One of the most notable changes concerns the touchpad, which is now also a screen.

This isn’t just an aesthetic addition, as the new touchscreen will incorporate a robust system based on machine learning and AI. The new screen will guide players by displaying button prompts for the most effective actions to take. In addition, buttons, such as sticks and triggers, will also light up to indicate recommended inputs during difficult sections of the game.

On paper, this feature could help players overcome difficult bosses or solve complex puzzles. Even difficult areas could be easier to navigate thanks to this intelligent assistance. This innovation could make games more accessible for inexperienced players or people with specific disabilities.

However, in order to maintain a smooth gaming experience and respect individual preferences, this feature should be deactivated by default. It is important that this innovation is not perceived as a distraction, especially if the AI model is not properly trained and suggests inappropriate actions.

Although no official release date has yet been announced, gaming enthusiasts around the world are eagerly awaiting Sony’s next generation of DualSense controllers. With the integration of AI and machine learning, these controllers promise a more immersive and accessible gaming experience for everyone. Stay tuned to Sony for more information on the commercialisation of these innovative and exciting controllers.
