Samsung’s new in-house chip arrives with support for UFS 3.1 storage and a more capable AI engine. The chipset can now handle phones with up to FHD+ resolution and 144Hz refresh rate screens as well as 200MP main cameras. (Can it really run the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s 200 MP camera?).
The Exynos 1380 is manufactured on Samsung’s 5nm EUV process. It is a processor consisting of 4 Cortex-A78 performance cores clocked at 2.4 GHz and 4 Cortex-A55 efficiency cores buzzing at 2.0 GHz. Arm’s Mali-G68 MP5 handles the GPU side.
Samsung says the AI capabilities on the device allow for more advanced language recognition for voice assistance as well as improved image recognition. In terms of connectivity, you get a built-in 5G modem that supports mmWave and sub-6GHz networks. The chip also supports dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and BeiDou, Galileo, GLONASS, GPS GNSS positioning.
Samsung’s Exynos 1380 chipset is expected to debut in the brand’s upcoming Galaxy A54 phone.
