Samsung Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition and Galaxy XCover6 Pro Tactical Edition: smartphones tailored to tactical needs!

Samsung has recently expanded its portfolio of devices with the launch of two new smartphones: the Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition and the Galaxy XCover6 Pro Tactical Edition. Designed to meet the specific needs of military personnel and other professionals with a similar profile, these rugged smartphones offer additional features for use in demanding tactical environments.

Although these two smartphones share the same specifications as their standard versions, they are equipped with additional features that make them ideally suited to use in demanding tactical situations.

Resistance to extreme weather conditions

The Galaxy XCover6 Pro Tactical Edition is MIL-STD-810H certified, guaranteeing its resistance to extreme weather conditions. It is also waterproof to a depth of 5 feet for up to 30 minutes. The Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition, meanwhile, has an IP68 rating and comes with a rugged, military-grade case that can be mounted on the chest or attached to the forearm.

Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition and Galaxy XCover6 Pro Tactical Edition have night vision mode

Both smartphones are equipped with a night vision mode, allowing them to be used in conjunction with optical night vision devices. What’s more, their automatic touch sensitivity makes them easy to use with gloves on, while the auto-rotating lock screen makes them easy to use with folding chest mounts.

The Galaxy S23 and Galaxy XCover6 Pro Tactical Edition smartphones also feature external GPS support, providing accurate location data in the field. They are also capable of connecting to drone feeds and laser rangefinders, increasing mission effectiveness.

S23 Tactical Edition and XCover6 Pro Tactical Edition support tactical radio and mission device protocols

In terms of communications, these two tactical smartphones have drivers specifically designed to support tactical radio and mission device protocols. They are also compatible with conventional cellular capabilities, including LTE, CBRS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Connectivity and security: The highly specialised features of the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy XCover6 Pro Tactical Edition

One of the key features of these devices is their advanced communications capability. The specially designed drivers that come with them support tactical radio and mission device protocols. In addition, these smartphones also support conventional cellular capabilities, including LTE, CBRS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. This allows users to stay connected and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

To ensure secure communications, both tactical smartphones feature a special stealth mode that disables LTE and e-911, cutting off all RF emissions, including GPS, in hardware. This allows operators to benefit from secure, completely off-net communications, essential in sensitive environments. In addition, these devices feature lighting that can be switched on and off, suitable for use with night vision devices, ensuring unobtrusive operations.

Cyber security is also paramount in tactical smartphones, and Samsung has integrated the Samsung Knox solution, offering hardware-level encryption to protect sensitive data. In addition, the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy XCover6 Pro Tactical Edition smartphones are equipped with Knox Dual Data at Rest (DualDAR), which provides a double layer of encryption for confidential data, even when the smartphone is switched off. This feature enhances security and maintains the confidentiality of sensitive information.

On the software side, these smartphones run on the latest One UI 5.1 operating system based on Android 13, and are also compatible with the Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK) and the Battlefield Assisted Distributed Trauma Observation Kit (BATDOK). With ATAK, operators can improve their real-time situational awareness with mapping, messaging and geolocation capabilities, while BATDOK enables real-time medical information to be collected and disseminated during patient encounters.

Finally, for an optimised work experience, both smartphones support Samsung DeX and dual VPN chaining. Samsung DeX offers a complete desktop experience when connected to a monitor, keyboard and mouse, enabling maximum productivity even in the field. Dual VPN chaining ensures a secure connection to private networks, essential when accessing sensitive information.

Whether you’re a military professional or working in demanding tactical environments, the Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition and Galaxy XCover6 Pro Tactical Edition smartphones are ideal choices to meet your needs. Their ruggedness, additional features adapted to adverse conditions and advanced communication capabilities make them reliable, high-performance companions in the field.
