Choosing the perfect smartphone can be as exhilarating as it is tricky, especially when considering technological gems such as the Oppo Find X7 Ultra and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. However, before we even dive into the specifications and features of these two high-end devices, one crucial consideration must be made: global availability. While the Galaxy S23 Ultra is widely available, the Oppo Find X7 Ultra presents itself as an enigma largely reserved for the Chinese market. Could this factor tip the balance in favour of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, or does Oppo have something impressive in store to make up for its limited distribution?
Choosing the perfect smartphone can be as exhilarating as it is tricky, especially when considering technological gems such as the Oppo Find X7 Ultra and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. However, before we even dive into the specifications and features of these two high-end devices, one crucial consideration must be made: global availability. While the Galaxy S23 Ultra is widely available, the Oppo Find X7 Ultra presents itself as an enigma largely reserved for the Chinese market. Could this factor tip the balance in favour of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, or does the Oppo have something impressive in store to compensate for its limited distribution?
The Oppo Find X7 Ultra sports a 6.82-inch LTPO AMOLED display that delivers an immersive visual experience. With a resolution of 1,440 x 3,168 pixels, the screen produces sharp, detailed images. LTPO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) technology enables intelligent power management, contributing to greater energy efficiency.
Colours are vibrant with support for 1 billion colours, and detail is enhanced with Dolby Vision and HDR10+ technology. The display achieves an impressive brightness of 1,600 nits (typical), with peaks of up to 4,500 nits in peak mode, providing exceptional visibility even in bright sunlight.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, meanwhile, is equipped with a 6.8-inch Dynamic 2X AMOLED display that dazzles with its visual quality. The resolution of 1,440 x 3,088 pixels offers remarkable sharpness, and the 19.3:9 ratio ensures a cinematic experience.
With a brightness of 1,200 nits in HBM (High Brightness Mode) and peaks of up to 1,750 nits in peak mode, the S23 Ultra’s screen ensures optimum visibility in all lighting conditions. Support for HDR10+ technology delivers dynamic contrast and vibrant colours. Like the Find X7 Ultra, the S23 Ultra benefits from Corning Gorilla Glass Victus2 protection to protect the screen from damage.
The Oppo Find X7 Ultra boasts exceptional peak brightness, high resolution and intelligent power management using LTPO technology. In contrast, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra delivers a dynamic viewing experience with powerful brightness and vibrant colours.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra stands out for its integration of the S Pen, a feature inherited from the late Galaxy Note series. Housed in the phone’s chassis, the S Pen offers a remarkably low latency of 2.8ms, even surpassing the Apple Pencil 2. With Bluetooth connectivity and an integrated button, the stylus transforms into a remote camera shutter, adding a practical dimension to photography.
This unique feature puts the Galaxy S23 Ultra in a class of its own, offering a stylish and functional experience. While the Oppo Find X7 Ultra may be compatible with generic pens, it can’t compete with the integration and performance of the S Pen.
The Oppo Find X7 Ultra takes advantage of the latest processing technology, standing out for the presence of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. Thanks to these cutting-edge specs, the Oppo’s efficiency and speed are probably ahead of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which launched with an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy; especially as the latter is paired with 12GB of RAM but for the same 1TB of storage.
Not only does the Find X7 Ultra outperform in terms of raw power, it also offers dazzling charging speeds. The 100W fast charging technology far surpasses the S23 Ultra’s 45W, and the 50W wireless charging makes the experience even smoother. Moving on to batteries, both flagships offer up to 5000 mAh of battery power.
While the Oppo Find X7 Ultra’s HyperTone camera system, consisting of four cameras of 50 MP each and enhanced image processing technology, may look impressive on paper, it’s interesting to put it up against the smartphone photography giant, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.
The Oppo Find X7 Ultra stands out for its HyperTone camera system, comprising a 50MP main camera with a second-generation Sony LYT-900 1-inch sensor. The lens offers an f/1.8 aperture, optical image stabilisation (OIS) and lens reflection reduction technology. But the Oppo’s real trump card is its two 3x and 6x periscope lenses, offering an optical range of up to 10x and an impressive digital zoom of up to 120x.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, meanwhile, takes a different approach with a 200MP main camera, combined with pixel-gathering technology. This smartphone also excels in the ultra-wide field with a 50 MP lens and f/2.0 aperture, beating out the competition in early 2024. Although it doesn’t have two periscope lenses like the Oppo, its 100x zoom is already delivering impressive results.
While the Oppo Find X7 Ultra may have the edge in some respects, particularly with its dual periscope lenses and HyperTone system, it’s crucial to bear in mind that actual performance depends on user experience. The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, already established as one of the photographic leaders of 2023, cannot be dismissed easily.
We look forward to putting the Oppo Find X7 Ultra through its paces in extensive tests, but for now, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra remains a solid choice for those looking for proven photographic excellence.
The decision between the Oppo Find X7 Ultra and the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra extends far beyond technical specifications and features. The global availability of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, with its established presence in key markets and easy accessibility, is a clear advantage. However, for those willing to explore the unknown and import the Find X7 Ultra, it promises performance and features that could surpass its geographical constraints.
