Alongside the Cat S75 that we presented in the other article earlier, the Bullitt group has launched the new Motorola Defy 2 with both as particularity to be the first phones equipped with two-way messaging by satellite. This means that with either of these two phones, you can send and receive messages anywhere through direct satellite communication.
In addition to these rugged phones with two-way satellite messaging, users can also get the Motorola Defy Satellite Link device that gives any Android and iOS device the ability to communicate in the wild.

Two key selling points: the Defy 2’s ruggedness and two-way satellite communication
A truly rugged phone
The Defy 2 has been tested to withstand drops from steel plates up to 1.8 m, can withstand up to 24 hours in extreme temperatures (-30°C/-22°F to 75°C/167°F), and can also withstand humid environments, including salt spray. When you’re on the go, the phone is protected by its special silver ion antimicrobial coating. When you get home, you can wash the phone with soap and disinfectant.
The Moto phone is powered by a Dimensity 930 chipset with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, you can add more using the microSD slot. It runs Android 12 out of the box and will be updated to version 13 and later v14. It will receive quarterly security updates for the first 3 years, and then it will receive emergency SMR updates for another 2 years.
The 6.6-inch screen is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. It is an FHD + 20: 9 panel with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The touch screen can be used with gloves and wet fingers. At the top is an 8MP selfie camera, the fingerprint reader is on the back.
Camera and charging
On the back is a 50MP main camera (f/1.8) accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide module and a 2MP macro camera. The phone is powered by a non-removable 5,000mAh battery, which can be charged at 15W over a wire, Qi charging is also supported.
If you want to continue using your current phone and use satellite messaging occasionally, getting a Motorola Defy Satellite Link makes sense. It’s a small, portable device about the size of a keychain that you can easily attach to your backpack and control via Bluetooth using your phone. It’s IP68-rated for dust and water resistance and has also passed MIL-STD-810H testing.
The Link is quite small, measuring 70 x 50 x 11 mm and weighing 70 g. It is powered by a 600 mAh battery, which should last for several days. Even if you lose your phone, you can still use the SOS button. The automatic registration of the location is indicated by one of the LEDs.
