Asus has finally revealed the pricing and full specifications of its ROG Ally portable gaming PC, whose AMD Zen4 configuration competes directly with Valve’s Steam Deck. The model is designed to provide a superior gaming experience on the go, with a 7-inch IPS LCD display offering FHD resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Protected by Gorilla Glass Victus, the panel can produce up to 500 nits of brightness, with a response time of 7ms and 100% coverage of the sRGB colour space.
The ROG Ally is equipped with two chipset versions, AMD’s Ryzen Z1 and Ryzen Z1 Extreme chips, with a six-core Zen 4 processor with twelve threads for the Z1 version and an eight-core Zen 4 processor with sixteen threads and a twelve-core RDNA 3 graphics card for the Z1 Extreme version. In addition, the console supports external GPUs such as the ROG XG Mobile which can hold a GeForce RTX 4090 laptop GPU for even more power.
Both ROG Ally models come equipped with 16GB of dual-channel LPDDR5 memory and 256/512GB PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSDs in 2230 size, as well as a 40W battery. With the 15W performance mode, Asus estimates you can get up to two hours of endurance when running heavy games. In addition, there are two fans and a copper heat pipe to cool the device.
The console comes with a 65W PD charger. The chassis is made of aluminium and weighs only 608 grams, with exact dimensions of 280 x 111 x 21.2 mm. ROG Ally runs Windows 11 Home and comes with a special edition of Asus Armory Crate. In addition, you can run Xbox Game Pass and get a three-month trial with every purchase.
You can also play games from any other popular game launcher and game streaming services. The ROG Ally features two analogue joysticks with capacitive touch and RGB lighting, a D-pad, ABXY buttons, triggers and left and right Hall effect bumpers, as well as two assignable grip buttons on the back. The screen is flanked by the control centre and display buttons on the left, and the menu and armoury case buttons on the right. Finally, Asus has added six-axis gyroscope support to enhance the gaming experience.
The Asus ROG Ally portable gaming console is equipped with a USB 3.2 Gen2 compatible Type-C combo port, a dedicated external GPU port and a microSD card slot, supporting UHS-II cards. It also features a headphone/mic jack and dual-tap stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio.
Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity is also available. The Ryzen Z1 (12/256GB) version is priced at $600 in the US and will ship in Q3. The more powerful Z1 Extreme model (16/512GB) starts at $700/€800/£700. The Z1 Extreme is available for pre-order on the Asus website and from local resellers, with shipments and open sales starting next month.
