The Ultimate Choice: Galaxy S24 Plus or iPhone 15 Pro?

Two of the best-known competitors in the high-end smartphone market are Samsung and Apple. Indeed, they compete to offer the best features and performance to their users. In this article, we’ll compare Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Plus and Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro. These two iconic devices offer unique features and distinct user experiences, and it’s important to understand the differences between them.

Design

Measuring 158.5 x 75.9 x 7.7mm and weighing between 196g and 197g, the Galaxy S24 Plus stands out for its generous dimensions and slightly heavier weight, giving it a solid, durable feel. Its use of high-quality materials such as Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and reinforced aluminium make it an attractive choice for those looking for a smartphone that is both stylish and durable.

The iPhone 15 Pro, which measures 146.6 x 70.6 x 8.3 mm and weighs 187 g, offers a more portable experience with more compact dimensions and lighter weight, making it easy to handle and carry on a daily basis. What’s more, the combination of a Corning Glass display, Corning Glass back and Grade 5 titanium frame gives the iPhone 15 Pro a refined aesthetic and remarkable robustness. Its IP68 certification for water and dust resistance offers added peace of mind for users concerned about the durability of their device.

Screen and display

The display on the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus is a 6.7-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X, with a resolution of 1,440 x 3,120 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The iPhone 15 Pro refreshes at the same rate, but its screen is smaller, with a diagonal measurement of 6.1 inches and a resolution of 1,179 x 2,556 pixels.

The Corning Gorilla Glass Victus2 protection of the Galaxy S24 Plus and the ceramic glass protection of the iPhone 15 Pro ensure that both phones are resistant to scratches and damage, as well as being more durable. Their permanent display function further enhances the qualities of these remarkable technological showcases.

But the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus stands out for its higher maximum brightness of 2,600 nits compared with the iPhone 15 Pro’s 2,000 nits in HBM mode, offering better readability outdoors in bright conditions. On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro offers HDR10 and Dolby Vision compatibility, providing a more expansive and immersive HDR content viewing experience compared to the Galaxy S24 Plus.

Performance and memory

The Galaxy S24 Plus is powered by Android 14 with a 6.1 user interface. It is powered by the Qualcomm SM8650-AC Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (for the US/Canada/China) or the Exynos 2400 (for the international market).  The iPhone 15 Pro, meanwhile, is powered by Apple’s 3nm A17 Pro chipset.

Both smartphones offer smooth performance and remarkable energy efficiency. But the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is better in this respect, according to the Versus website’s score of 92, compared with 83 for the A17 Pro.

In terms of memory, the Galaxy S24 Plus is available in two options: 256GB of storage and 512GB of storage with 12GB of RAM, using UFS4.0 technology for fast read and write speeds, offering plenty of storage capacity and optimum responsiveness.

The iPhone 15 Pro is available with more varied and generally larger options from 128GB to 1TB, offering generous capacity for storing photos, videos, applications and other multimedia content, providing greater flexibility in terms of storage.

Photography and video

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus is equipped with an advanced camera system featuring a triple main configuration with a 50MP main sensor, a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultra-wide lens. It’s the main sensor that sets this camera apart from the iPhone 15 Pro. The latter is equipped with a triple rear camera system that includes a 12MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 12MP telephoto lens.

The Galaxy S24 Plus can therefore capture higher-quality photos.  The same goes for videos. The Galaxy S24 Plus offers features such as 8K video recording and HDR10+, while the iPhone 15 Pro supports 4K video at frame rates of up to 60 fps. What’s more, the gyroscopic stabilisation of the S24 Plus contributes to smoother videos, even in moving conditions.

Price and availability

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus is priced at $999.99 / €1,149.00, making it a top-of-the-range product. As for the iPhone 15 Pro, it will also be positioned as a high-end product, with an estimated starting price of $875.59 / €1,089.00. Note that these prices may vary depending on model specification, storage capacity and connectivity options.

Verdict

In conclusion, Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Plus and Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro both offer exceptional functionality and cutting-edge performance. Whether you’re attracted by the solidity and elegance of the Galaxy S24 Plus or the portability and robustness of the iPhone 15 Pro, these two top-of-the-range smartphones are among the great technological innovations in the mobile world.
