WhatsApp is a secure messaging application, which allows video, chat and even voice communication between different users. Because our privacy is important to us, the company (Meta) that runs WhatsApp claims that it is end-to-end encrypted, thus preventing third parties from intercepting the transmission of your communications.

Unfortunately, there is no official WhatsApp application for linux distributions yet, but the good news is that it is still possible to download and install WhatsApp on linux distributions.

But, yes another but and this time it’s not really a good news or a bad news by the way, the WhatsApp application that can be installed on these linux distributions is not the official WhatsApp.

So it wasn’t really created by the company responsible for WhatsApp. It was created by users like you and me, but a little bit more skilled in programming than us. These developers use the WhatsApp web interface to create a seamless experience. Using this method it is now possible for us to use WhatsApp on our Linux distributions.

Installing WhatsApp directly on Kali Linux

The procedure for installing WhatsApp on Kali is actually quite simple and can be summarized in three equally simple command lines. Note that the following commands will install an application that allows you to use WhatsApp.

$ sudo apt update

$ sudo apt install snapd

$ sudo snap install whatsdesk

If the installation of whatsdesk is successful, you should be able to use WhatsApp and make video calls, chat, voice, communicate with your friends and family without any problems. The whatsdesk interface will normally look like the official WhatsApp interface, so you should be able to find your way around.

There is also another application of the same kind, i.e. a bit like whatsdesk, that you can use. This app is called Franz, it is a messaging app that can be used to send messages on Facebook Messenger, Slack, WhatsApp, Telegram and other social media platforms.

This application is available for Linux, Windows and Mac as a free download. Use this link to see how to install Franz if you don’t know how to install it. Here

Another way to use WhatsApp on Kali is to use another application called WhatsApp for Linux. This is a free and open source messaging application that provides end-to-end encryption for all your messages. You can use WhatsApp for Linux on your desktop or laptop by installing it, just type the following command.

sudo apt update

$ sudo snap install whatsapp-for-linux

Using WhatsApp on the browser

This is the easiest and simplest way to use WhatsApp on Kali, on any system for that matter, but not for IOS users due to the limitations of the Apple platform. To connect your web browser to your WhatsApp client, simply open https://web.whatsapp.com in your Google Chrome browser.

You will see a QR code, scan the code in WhatsApp, and you’re all set. You have now linked WhatsApp on your phone to the WhatsApp web client. Your phone must remain connected to the internet for WhatsApp Web to work, and make sure you have the latest version of WhatsApp installed on your phone. If you don’t know how to link WhatsApp Web to your phone use the following link. Here
