Google began rolling out its monthly Pixel update on October 6, 2026. For Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro owners it matters more than usual: according to Android Authority, it is most likely the last monthly patch for those phones. That makes this a story about Pixel 6 end of support, so here is what you need to know.

What is in the October 2026 update

The rollout is phased and should take about a week. Build numbers depend on the model:

  • Pixel 6 and 7, first Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet: CP3A.261005.002.A1;
  • Pixel 8, 9 and 10: CP3A.261005.005;
  • Pixel 11: CD1A.261005.003.

The fix list is modest. Pixel 8 through 10 phones lose the audio noise or distortion in ringtones during certain VoIP calls. From the Pixel 8 to the Pixel 11, the on-screen keyboard no longer sometimes fails to appear in search fields. The Pixel 11 alone gets a fix for photos and videos saved in the wrong orientation. For the Pixel 6 and 7, the update includes no model-specific changes.

Why the Pixel 6 is running out of road

The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro launched on October 19, 2021. Google later extended their support to five years, which brings us to October 2026. Android Authority notes that the November patch would land after the cutoff unless Google announces a change.

The signs were there. Per Gadget Hacks, Android 17 QPR1 was expected to be the last quarterly platform release for these phones, and Google left them out of the first Android 17 QPR2 beta. The Pixel 6 series also skipped several monthly patches, including July and August 2025 and several months in early 2026, without Google formally announcing a quarterly schedule.

What you lose, and what keeps working

Once support ends, there are no more guaranteed OS updates, device-specific security patches or Pixel Drops. The phone and your apps keep working, and Google Play system updates may still deliver some modular Android components. The risk is that unpatched vulnerabilities pile up over time.

What about other Pixels?

  • Pixel 6a: supported until July 2027;
  • Pixel 7 and 7 Pro: until October 2027;
  • Pixel 7a and Pixel Fold: into 2028;
  • Pixel 8: until October 2030, under Google’s seven-year commitment.

What to do if you own a Pixel 6

Install this update as soon as it shows up in Settings. After that, plan a replacement in the coming months if you use the phone for payments or sensitive data. A newer model comes with a much longer support window. Will you keep your Pixel 6? Tell us in the comments, and find more news on Wanda-techs.com.
