The One UI 8.5 update of July 2026 is rolling out to the Galaxy S24, S25 and S26 and the foldables, with 57 security patches. But as often after a big update, it comes with its share of annoyances: car Bluetooth dropping, the Samsung Keyboard skipping letters, SMS arriving hours late, overheating and battery drain. The good news: most of these bugs are fixed in a few minutes. Here, problem by problem, is what to do.

The Reflex That Fixes Many Bugs: Clear the Cache and Reset Preferences

After a major update, settings inherited from the old version can conflict with the new system. Two simple steps fix a large share of app-level bugs:

  • Restart the phone first: that alone often stabilizes the system after installation.
  • Reset app preferences: Settings → Apps → menu (three dots) → Reset app preferences. This deletes no data but restores default permissions and services, often thrown off after the update.
  • For a specific misbehaving app, clear its cache via Settings → Apps → [the app] → Storage → Clear cache.

Car Bluetooth Dropping or Crackling

This is one of the most reported bugs after One UI 8.5. Simply reconnecting isn’t enough: you need to start from a clean pairing.

  • Delete the pairing on both sides: forget the phone in the car’s system, and forget the car in Settings → Connections → Bluetooth on the phone.
  • Restart both the phone and the car’s infotainment system.
  • Re-pair from scratch, launching Bluetooth discovery. A fresh pairing resolves most audio dropouts.

Samsung Keyboard Skipping Letters

If the keyboard “misses” characters since the update, the issue usually comes from its cache or a smoothing setting.

  • Clear the Samsung Keyboard cache (Settings → Apps → Samsung Keyboard → Storage → Clear cache).
  • Make sure the keyboard is up to date via the Galaxy Store or Play Store.
  • Temporarily disable resource-heavy options (swipe typing, advanced prediction) to see if one is at fault, then re-enable them one by one.

SMS Arriving Late (Sometimes Hours)

Incoming SMS arriving with a delay is often tied to battery optimization applied to the Messages app.

  • Open Settings → Apps → Messages → Battery and set it to Unrestricted.
  • Check that Messages isn’t being put to sleep: Settings → Battery and device care → Battery → Background usage limits, and remove Messages from the “sleeping apps.”

Overheating and Battery Drain

In the days after an update, the phone re-indexes and optimizes in the background: temporary extra consumption is normal. If it persists beyond two or three days:

  • Spot the guilty app in Settings → Battery → Usage since last charge.
  • Test in Safe Mode (hold the power button, then long-press “Power off”): if everything returns to normal, a third-party app is to blame.
  • Make sure the latest security patch is installed (Settings → Software update), as Samsung regularly ships post-launch patches.

What It Means for You

Almost all of these One UI 8.5 bugs can be solved without a repair shop: a restart, a cache to clear, a pairing to redo, or a little patience while the system settles. Our advice: if your Galaxy is your main phone, don’t install a major update on day one, and keep a recent backup via Smart Switch before you jump in.
