Apart from the TCL 40 X, XE and XL, the company also unveiled another affordable model: cheaper than the TCL 408, the TCL 406 is above the 403 and 405. Moreover, that is not all, the company also introduced noise-canceling TWS headphones and portable 5G Wi-Fi.
TCL 406: an affordable Android 13 phone
The TCL 406 costs $120, which is $10 less than the 408. What was been sacrificed for this price drop? The camera – the new model has a 13MP sensor, up from 50MP. It still runs Android and even comes with the new version 13 out of the box. The other module that complements the dual rear camera is a 2MP depth sensor, and for selfies, you get an 8MP front shooter.
Other than that, the two phones are quite similar. They have 6.6-inch HD+ displays, stereo speakers, and 5,000mAh batteries. Just like the refresh rate, the name of the chipset has not been revealed, but we are already used to low-end phones. Its screen is an IPS LCD resolution 720 x 1612 pixels.
Note that TCL also has the 405 and 403 phones, but these are Android Go Edition devices, so we can’t compare them directly to the other two. That said, the 405 hardware is quite similar to the 406, the main limiting factor here is the RAM capacity. The TCL 406 will be available in Europe immediately and will soon expand to other regions.
TCL Moveaudio Neo TWS headphones
After a gap year, TCL is now back with its cheapest headphones with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) – the Moveaudio Neo has both ANC for listening to music and ambient noise cancellation for voice calls. The ANC reduces noise by up to 28 dB. A transparency mode is also available, for those times when you need to hear your surroundings.
Neo headphones support Google’s fast pairing, so pairing them with a recent Android phone should be as simple as opening the case and pressing the pair button on the screen.
The buds have 10mm drivers and touch controls, as well as 4 EQ modes. Each bud weighs 4.5g and is IP54 rated, so rain and dirt shouldn’t be a problem. The case weighs 41g. The only major component missing is a high-quality audio codec.
The buds can last up to 7 hours of continuous playback , the total listening time when you include the case is 40 hours. Charging is via USB-C and is quite fast, 10 minutes is enough for 100 minutes of playback.
The TCL Moveaudio Neo costs $50. For comparison, the S600 is $100, the S180 (also with ANC) is $80 normally and there are significant discounts at the time of writing. The S180 has a shorter battery life (30 hours) and however lacks a fast pair.
