Why my phone reboots and how to fix it

If your phone restarts by itself, it has one of the problems listed below. You should then apply one of the solutions in this short guide to sick phones.

There’s nothing worse than watching your faithful everyday companion restart by itself again and again. It’s even worse if you have urgent work to do with it.

Why your phone reboots by itself

  • The cause of this kind of failure is very often software.
  • It can be a third-party application or even the operating system that is damaged. Perhaps you have installed an application that doesn’t work with your version of the system?
  • Secondly, it may be a hardware problem, an electronic circuit or a component of your device such as the screen, the motherboard, etc. In this case, the repair is often more complex. Of course, it could be a battery problem. In which case, you change it.
  • If your phone overheats, it will shut down so that the internal components are not damaged. In general, using your phone too much in the heat can cause it to overheat. Leave it switched off and then switch it on again when it is cool.
  • Finally, the most dangerous case is the insertion of liquid into the phone. In this case, you may need to change your phone.

My phone restarts by itself : Best solutions

1.     Update the system and applications

When it turns on, pick up your phone and check that the operating system is up to date.

To update your phone to Android:

  1. Go to your phone’s Settings
  2. Then press ‘About Phone’ which is usually at the bottom
  3. Press Software Updates
  4. The phone will check for a system update. If there is one, you will be prompted to download it. You will need a stable and fast internet connection.

To update your applications on Android:

  1. Open Play Store and press the Menu icon
  2. Click on My apps and games.
  3. Here you can choose to update individual apps or tap Update All to download all available updates.
  4. Whenever necessary, tap “Accept” to assign permissions to an app.

To update your iPhone:

  1. Back up your device data using iCloud or your computer.
  2. Connect your device to a power source and connect it to the Internet via Wi-Fi.
  3. Go to Settings > General, then touch Software update.
  4. If two software update options are available, select the one you want to install.
  5. Tap Install. If the ‘Download and install’ option is displayed instead, touch it to download the update, enter your passcode, and then touch Install.

2. Clear the phone’s storage

If after the update the phone continues to have problems restarting, check that the memory is not too full. Modern smartphones should have at least 300 MB of free space at all times. When it comes to storage, never go below one gigabyte. This keeps the system stable.

So go to your gallery and delete all those photos and videos that are no longer useful.

Go to the settings, then to Applications and clear your application cache.

Some phones like LG, Samsung and Xiaomi come with phone management tools that make these tasks much easier

Close or even uninstall apps that are running in the background if possible. Go to Settings > Applications > Running. Please never stop or disable an application that is running in the background without investigating it. It could be a vital application for the phone.

Indeed, if some system applications are disabled or missing, it can cause the phone to restart. On Android, open Settings>Applications. Scroll down to see which apps have a “Disabled” sign. This problem cannot happen on iOS.

3. Your phone reboots on its own because it contains pirate apps

This option is third on our list, yet it is one of the most common causes. When did this auto-restart problem start? What applications have you installed in the meantime? These are all questions that will help you flush out the rogue application. Go to Settings>Applications. Scan all downloaded applications and do a Google search. If one looks suspicious, uninstall it.

4. Reset your phone to factory settings

This is a drastic method, but it usually fixes any software problems on your phone. Resetting will remove all the data from your phone, so it will be empty like when you bought it. You should therefore back up your data to your computer first.

How to reset your Android to factory settings

  1. Open the settings
  2. Scroll down to find “System”.
  3. Click on Reset Options. Press “Erase all data” or Reset to factory settings
  4. Enter your PIN code if required
  5. Press Delete to start the process.

To reset your iPhone to its factory settings:

  1. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or reset iPhone > Reset.
  2. Tap Clear Content & Settings. You will be prompted to enter your iCloud password and then confirm that you want to delete all your data.

If your phone continues to reboot until then, the problem is hardware. You will need to take it to a repair shop.
