Understand what wireless reverse charging is

Reverse charging is the process by which a Qi-compatible cell phone (compatible with inductive charging) is used to charge another device such as a smartphone, connected watch, tablet, smart bracelet or Bluetooth headphones.

It should be noted that this charging technique is very slow unlike using a normal charger. It can take hours to fill up the battery of the destination device. It should also be noted that the battery of the smartphone used as a charger loses autonomy during the process. However, this loss of autonomy can be minimized by plugging the charger phone into an electrical outlet and setting a threshold of autonomy that should not be exceeded.

It is also important to know that if the phone you want to use as a charger has an energy level lower than 20%, it will be impossible to carry out this task because this functionality will be disabled.

How to charge your mobile phone using another smartphone

First, get a Qi-compatible smartphone that you will use to charge your phone. Then check that this phone has enough power. The procedure may differ depending on the brand of phone. For our case, we will use a Samsung phone as a charger.

• On Samsung phones, the reverse charging function is called Wireless PowerShare. The charger device must have an energy autonomy greater than or equal to 30%. Here’s how to do it :
• On the home screen of the Samsung charger phone, swipe down with your finger from the top to open the notifications pane.
• Scroll down and find the Wireless PowerShare icon, which is a battery with an arrow pointing to the right.
• Activate the wireless charging feature by pressing the icon. The button turns blue.
• Turn the phone over and place it on a table with the screen facing up.
• Place the phone you want to charge on the back of the Samsung to start charging.
• Once charging is complete, deactivate the Wireless PowerShare function of the Samsung phone. To do this click on the « Cancel » button at the bottom of the window.
