TCL NXTPAPER 12 Pro design and screen

The first visuals of the NXTPAPER 12 Pro show a simple but effective design. The grained finish of the rear shell is reminiscent of drawing paper. Weighing in at 599g, the tablet is certainly not a lightweight model, although it’s not the heaviest on the market either.

The NXTPAPER 12 Pro is the first tablet that TCL has equipped with a 12.2 inch screen. The large screen looks like paper and a large canvas. It has a 2K definition (2160 x 1440 pixels) with a 3:2 aspect ratio.

TCL claims a maximum brightness of 327 nits with a refresh rate of 60 Hz for this display. This low refresh rate is unfortunate for a product dedicated to creativity and entertainment. An electronic stylus is combined with the screen. This stylus can recognise more than 8192 pressure points in the detail package.

The large size of the NXTPAPER 12 Pro allows it to carry an 8000 mAh battery. This battery is claimed to have a life of up to 13 hours. The device, which comes with a power supply unit, offers 18W of fast charging support.

TCL NXTPAPER 12 Pro Technical Specification

TCL has decided to equip the NXTPAPER 12 Pro with the MediaTek MT8771 chip that is already found in the Tab 10s 5G from the same manufacturer. The SoC is coupled with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Fortunately, there is the possibility to insert an SDHC or SDXC card to increase the memory.

As for the software, the NXTPAPER 12 Pro is dedicated to managing files effortlessly. Its floating window mode allows it to easily handle multiple application windows. The TCL NXTPAPER 12 Pro runs on Android 12.

Price and market presence of the TCL NXTPAPER 12 Pro

The TCL NXTPAPER 12 Pro has already been launched in the US and will be available in Europe a little later. The launch price is announced at $499. TCL plans to release a 5G version in the next few months at a cost of $549. The company is also selling a detachable keyboard and a case, but you’ll have to pay a bit more for that.

Conclusion

The NXTPAPER 12 Pro can be placed in the mid-range category. With the affordable price of this tablet and its screen that looks like paper and a large canvas, TCL’s goal is certainly to beat Apple and Samsung.
