Apple released iOS 27.2 on October 26, 2026, the first major update to iOS 27. It brings Siri AI in five new languages including French, an option to exclude apps, SynthID watermarking in Photos and plenty of smaller tweaks. One catch for readers in the European Union: according to MacRumors, Siri AI is not available there.
iOS 27.2: Siri AI speaks French, but not everywhere
The new Siri AI languages are French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. The features target iPhone 16 models and later, plus the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. MacRumors notes they are not offered in the EU or mainland China. In other words, French arrives in the software, but someone based in France shouldn’t expect to use it for now. We found no word from Apple on a European timeline.
For those who do have access, Siri gets a better memory. It can refer back to earlier conversations, such as a restaurant it suggested before. It also draws on more sources: photos attached in Messages, Calendar attendees, voicemails, and improved Safari history and Reading List results. You can now copy just part of a Siri reply.
Privacy: choose which apps Siri can see
A new setting lets you exclude specific apps from Siri, Search and suggestions. In the EU, iOS 27.2 also adds an alternative, expanded App Tracking Transparency prompt.
Photos, Messages and services
- Photos and Image Playground: SynthID watermarking helps identify images generated or modified with generative tools. Shared Albums let you edit captions and comments, avoid duplicate photos and see a reminder before an album expires.
- Messages: suggestions offer actions based on context, such as adding a dinner invite to Calendar.
- Apple TV: Simple Profiles give each household member personalized recommendations.
- Apple Music: new icon and branding.
- Podcasts: the Home tab splits New Episodes from Continue Playing.
- Games: the Friends tab explains friend suggestions and shows recent games.
- FaceTime: you can add a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner to a call.
On the iPhone Duo
On Apple’s foldable, Siri AI keeps context from earlier interactions and uses a wider range of personal data. Messages suggestions also work with Calendar and Reminders. The update adds Apple Pencil support and Edge Light, which lights your face during video calls.
How to get it
The update is available for every iPhone that runs iOS 27, through Settings, General, Software Update. iPadOS 27.2 shipped the same day. Apple also released iOS 26.7.2 with security fixes for devices still on the previous generation.
