More and more people are consuming content via streaming. This has led many companies to invest in the development of platforms offering a wide range of content.

We know world leaders such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. But we often forget very quickly that next to them there are others that deserve our attention. Either because they have more interesting price plans, or because they have unique and original contents.

Between movies, series, manga and documentaries, the best streaming platforms have everything to offer.

Apart from Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, it’s not easy to choose from the long list of platforms that exist.

1. Netflix: First Without Second

Netflix offers a wide range of content, each one more original than the other. It is simply the most complete streaming service. Moreover, Netflix applies a video compression algorithm so that those who do not have a broadband connection are not penalized when streaming.

Netflix services can be accessed through almost any multimedia device of the moment: a computer, a smartphone, a TV box and even an Xbox or PlayStation console.

The only downside to Netflix is that it tends to raise its prices a bit arbitrarily. Netflix costs between $7.99 and $15.99 per month depending on your content. Netflix can stream up to 4K HDR with Dolby Vision.

2. Amazon Prime Video: Much More Than Streaming

Prime Video is the most serious competitor to Netflix. Not only does it have a very rich catalog, but it’s adding to it every day. And to top it all off, it has more disciplined pricing than Netflix. Amazon Prime Video costs from 5.99 per month or 49.99€ per year. At those prices, you get free shipping on your orders and premium access to Twich. You can get Prime Video for free if you subscribe to Freebox Delta.

One of the biggest problems with Prime Video is its interface which is not very intuitive. Not to mention its recommendation system which is not very good.

Prime Video broadcasts in 4K HDR 10+ and Dolby Vision. Its content is certainly less provided than that of Netflix, but it remains rich and varied. If you are looking for humor, manga or documentaries, you will be well served.

Prime Video is available on tablet, smartphone, computer, TV box etc.

3. Disney+ : All the Content We Love

The advantage with Disney is that it is originally a producer of good content. Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars are all movies and series that we have all loved. It’s an ideal service for the family and especially for children. Disney+ costs 6,99€ per month or 69,99€ per year. This is a fair price for the rich content that the platform offers.

Disney+ streams up to 4K Dolby Vision and is available via iOS, Android, Fire TV, Apple TV, Playstation, Xbox, Android TV, Chromecast, Web platforms etc.

In addition to its affordable price and popular content, Disney+ has an absolutely fabulous user interface. It’s easy to find your way around, it’s a breeze.

4. MyCanal: Netflix And Disney+ In The Same Place

With regularly updated content and a very intuitive interface, MyCanal is a great option. Of course, this wealth of content comes at the rather high price of 19,99€. This is the price to pay to have Netflix and Disney+ at the same time.

It can stream with 4K HDR video quality and is available on multiple platforms including iOS, Android, Web, Android TV, Apple TV and even at your carrier via the Box.

One of MyCanal’s major strengths is that it offers the latest content. With MyCanal, you’ll see a recently released movie before Netflix or Amazon Prime Video subscribers.

Despite its rich and varied content, MyCanal’s interface remains simple enough to be easily navigated.

5. OCS : Ideal For HBO Series Lovers

OCS has an almost unbeatable advantage: the platform has exclusive rights to HBO series. Those who know how popular these series are can see why OCS is in fifth place in this ranking.

If Disney+ can be considered suitable for a young audience, Orange’s OCS is clearly aimed at an adult audience. Its content is chic, even if its video quality leaves a little to be desired. Nothing too serious though. OCS is for people who don’t consume a lot of streaming content but who enjoy nice HBO series.

The service costs 9.99€ per month on mobile and 11.99€ per month for TV streaming. It can be accessed via iPhone, Android, Apple TV, Android TV, Xbox, PlayStation, Windows 10, Mac OS and Web.

Thanks to its partnership with HBO, OCS allows you to watch series released in the United States at the same time as the Americans.

6. Apple TV+: Apple’s Know-How Applied to Streaming

The Apple TV+ service is free for a year if you buy an Apple device. The platform streams in 4K HDR10 and Dolby Vision. Its video quality is one of the best around. Alas, there isn’t much content to enjoy.

For now, the service costs only $4.99 per month and is available on the Web, iPhone, Apple TV, LG and Samsung Smart TV and Amazon’s Fire TV. Apple TV+ content is more like HBO than Netflix. Apple is banking on big productions with global stars to attract its audience. Its content is still very limited, but knowing Apple, this will not last.

7. Salto: A Platform Adapted To the French

Salto allows us to enjoy the rich content of TF1, M6 and France Televisions. You will be entitled to the series and shows for a basic package of 6,99€ for one user. For 2 users, it will be 9,99€ and 12,99€ for 4.

Salto broadcasts in High Definition on iPhone, Android, Freebox Pop and TV with Android TV. Of course, it can also be accessed via the Web.

It is worth noting that Salto is the initiative of several French media groups, which guarantees constant and unlimited content in the long term.

The application is quite simple to use and easy to find.

8. UniversCiné : Cinema A Gogo

For more than twenty years, this platform has been providing movie lovers with movies of all kinds. With more than 7500 movies, UniversCiné has nothing to envy to Netflix. At least as far as movies are concerned.

UniversCiné was born from the partnership of several French producers, hence its rich catalog. You will often see titles that are not yet available on Netflix or Amazon.

UniversCiné offers the same pricing as Disney+, i.e. 6, 99€ per month and 69, 99€ per year.

9. FILMOTV: The European Film Showcase

You’ll find all kinds of movies here, whether it’s science fiction, action, adventure or comedy. All ages can be found here. The FILMOTV platform is very particular because it presents European productions. Indeed, we can find Danish, German, Italian films etc. The platform even classifies its films by theme: “Black Lives Matter” or “Special Contagion” are examples. FILMOTV costs 6,99€ per month. You can take advantage of a 14-day free trial with no commitment.

10. The Web: Support Movie Theaters

Again, this is the work of a French-French partnership. 230 movie theaters spread all over the French territory have joined together to offer online content. We are talking about a catalog of more than 500 films, including more than ten new ones every month. The Web is clearly a way to support movie theaters. Indeed, on the platform, after choosing your movie, you select a cinema to which a part of the earnings of the platform will be given. A bit strange as a system but very practical in times of confinement. On the web, you can watch up to 6 movies for 20€.

In the end, choosing a streaming platform is simply a matter of asking yourself what content you want to have and at what price? While Disney+ is more suitable for kids and OCS for adults, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video mix the 2 worlds well. If you prefer a French or European solution, then MyCanal, La Toile, FILMOTV, UniversCiné and Salto are for you.
