The Galaxy M34 was launched on the market this week and joins its A-series counterpart (Galaxy A34) launched last March. Both phones are budget 5G devices with fairly similar features and specifications. Which should you choose? We guide you.
Design and screen
The Galaxy M34 has a plastic back panel with a glossy finish. Although it’s slightly bulky, it’s ergonomic and can be used with one hand. The Galaxy M34 has a 6.5-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It also has a teardrop-shaped notch for the front camera. The Galaxy A34, meanwhile, has a sleek design with a slightly larger 6.6-inch screen and a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels.
Performance
The Galaxy M34 is powered by an octa-core Exynos 1280 processor, combined with a Mali-G68 GPU. It runs on the Android 13-based One UI user interface and benefits from Android software updates for four years. Like its rival, the Galaxy A34 runs Andoid 13, but is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1080 processor paired with the Mali-G68 MC4 GPU. Both handsets come with 6GB and 8GB of RAM, and internal storage capacities of up to 256GB.
The Galaxy M34’s chipset may have a lower engraving finesse, but the Galaxy A34’s chipset is still more powerful thanks to its 2.6Hz cores. That said, there won’t really be any difference in everyday use.
Camera system
The Galaxy M34 features a triple camera system, including a 50MP main camera with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide lens and a 2MP macro sensor. For selfies, it has a 13MP camera. The Galaxy A34 also offers a triple-camera setup with similar, but slightly different, specifications. On the A34, there’s a 48MP main module accompanied by the same ultra-wide-angle and a 5MP macro module. And for selfies, it’s the same 13MP camera.
Battery
The Galaxy M34 is equipped with a huge 6,000mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging. The Galaxy A34 also offers a high-capacity battery, but limited to 5,000 mAh and supporting the same fast charge.
The Galaxy A34 and M34 offer similar functionality, but differ slightly in terms of design, performance and battery capacity. If you’re looking for a more powerful device and screen size is important to you, the Galaxy A34 could be the ideal choice. However, if you’re looking for longer battery life and a screen with a high refresh rate, the Galaxy M34 might better suit your needs. Ultimately, the decision will depend on your preferences and how you intend to use your smartphone.
