Amazon’s annual autumn event was an opportunity for the company to present its new product and service announcements. Major announcements included the new version of Alexa, powered by generative AI, as well as the launch of the all-new Amazon Echo Show 8 (3rd generation). Amazon also announced exciting updates to its flagship products, including the Fire TV Stick 4K and Echo Pop Kids, at its Devices and Services 2023 event. These new additions offer enhanced functionality and an optimised user experience for Amazon users.
Generative Alexa, a revolutionary advance in AI
The integration of generative AI is now high on the agenda for many technology companies, and Amazon is no exception. At the event, Amazon presented Generative Alexa, a new version of its voice assistant, based on a custom Extended Language Model (LLM). This new version of Alexa has been specifically optimised for voice commands, providing a more natural and conversational experience for users.
With this technology, Alexa will be able to reason, understand customer intent and handle complex requests in a remarkably improved way. To interact with this new version of Alexa, users will simply say “Alexa, let’s chat” on any Echo device they own. For now, this version of Alexa with generative AI is only available in the US, but Amazon plans to expand it to other markets, including India.
Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K and 4K Max (2nd generation)
Amazon also used the event to introduce the latest addition to its Echo Show range, the Amazon Echo Show 8 (3rd generation). This new version follows on from the 2021 version and offers an even more immersive audio experience thanks to its special bespoke audio processing technology.
The Echo Show 8 (3rd generation) features an 8-inch HD display, offering outstanding picture quality for video calling, viewing media content, and more. With Amazon Alexa integrated, users will be able to enjoy the full functionality of the voice assistant, as well as new features associated with the latest advances in AI.
Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K and 4K Max (2nd generation)
The Fire TV Stick 4K has been vastly improved, with a 30% increase in power over the first generation. This update allows users to benefit from faster app start-up and a smoother 4K streaming experience. What’s more, the vanilla model is now compatible with WiFi 6, offering a faster internet connection. With an affordable price of just $49.99 in the US, the Fire TV Stick 4K offers excellent value for streaming enthusiasts.
The all-new Fire TV Stick 4K Max is another exciting innovation in the Fire TV range. It’s the first streaming stick to support WiFi 6E, offering an even faster and smoother streaming experience. On top of that, it supports the latest audio and visual technologies such as Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and Dolby Audio. What’s more, the Fire TV Stick 4K Max features the new Fire TV Ambient Experience, turning your TV into a smart screen that displays useful information such as a family calendar, weather forecast and reminders. Amazon Echo Pop Kids

Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids
The team has also updated its range of tablets for kids, with the new Fire HD 10 Kids and Fire HD 10 Kids Pro tablets. These tablets feature a 10.1-inch Full HD screen and are lighter than ever. They offer a safe and entertaining experience for children, with content tailored to their age and interests. With these updates, Amazon continues to provide technology solutions tailored to the needs of families.
Amazon Echo Frames
Amazon also took the opportunity to introduce its new Alexa-powered Echo Frames smart glasses. The glasses have up to six hours of continuous media talk and playback, UV400 protection and IPX4 certification. The Echo Frames are available in different style options and multiple lenses. The glasses cost USD 269.99. The Echo Frames have been improved on their previous version, with increased autonomy. They are equipped with an Alexa voice assistant, allowing users to control the glasses by voice. The Echo Frames weigh just 31 grams and look like ordinary glasses. Connection between the Echo Frames and an Android or iOS device is via Bluetooth.
New Fire TV soundbar
Amazon recently unveiled a new Fire TV soundbar, compatible with all Fire TV media players and televisions. The compact 24-inch soundbar features Dolby Audio and DTS Virtual:X support, delivering an immersive audio experience. The Fire TV soundbar is easy to install and use, and is available at an affordable price of USD 119.99.
