However, Motorola is making a real show of strength with its top-of-the-range foldable phone, the Razr 40 Ultra.
In the race to dominate the foldable smartphone market, the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 are two strong contenders. One of the key aspects of these devices is their ability to deliver a great foldable screen experience. Let’s take a closer look at what each smartphone has to offer in terms of screen.
Let’s start with the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra. The device stands out for its cover screen, which offers a larger 3.6-inch size and a 120Hz refresh rate. This means users will benefit from a larger surface area to display quick information such as notifications and widgets. In addition, the high refresh rate ensures a smooth transition between applications and actions performed on the cover screen.
When it comes to the foldable screen, the Razr 40 Ultra also comes out on top. With a 6.9-inch AMOLED display, users will be able to enjoy an immersive experience while using their smartphone. What’s more, the super-smooth 165Hz refresh rate ensures smooth animations and instant touch response. This foldable screen offers plenty of space for browsing, multitasking and viewing content.
Moving on to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, it features a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X internal display with a resolution of 1080 x 2640 pixels. While slightly shorter and narrower than the Moto Razr 40 Ultra’s foldable display, it still delivers a high-quality visual experience. It also boasts a 120Hz refresh rate, while supporting LTPO technology to optimise power consumption.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 also features a 3.4-inch external display, also known as the Flex Window, which offers a quick response feature with a full QWERTY keyboard. This allows users to perform quick actions without needing to fully open the phone. In addition, more widgets can be displayed on this external screen, offering superior customisation.
One of the most important aspects for many users when choosing a smartphone is the quality of the camera. In this category, the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra is disappointing, while the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 offers an improvement on its predecessor.
The Razr 40 Ultra features a dual camera system, with a 12MP wide sensor and a 13MP ultra-wide sensor. Unfortunately, the photographic results don’t live up to expectations. Colours are blurred, zoomed-in photos lack sharpness and portraits are unconvincing.
On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 has a similar camera configuration to the Flip 4, with two 12MP sensors in wide and ultra-wide modes. The Flip 4 already took decent, well-balanced photos, so we can expect an improvement in photographic performance with the Flip 5 thanks to new image processing improvements combined with a new SoC.
When it comes to selfies, the Razr 40 Ultra has a 32MP camera, while the Galaxy Z Flip 5 offers the equivalent of 10MP. However, one of the advantages of both phones is that you can easily use the main camera to take selfies. In this case, the Flip 5 once again has the advantage.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is more powerful than the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra thanks to its Samsung-exclusive Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor for Galaxy, which offers a slightly higher processor clock speed and an extra GPU core. However, the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra has a higher 12GB RAM, while the Galaxy Z Flip 5 has 8GB RAM. In terms of storage, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 offers a larger storage option with 512GB of UFS 4.0, while the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra only has a 256GB UFS 3.1 storage option.
The Motorola Razr 40 Ultra supports all apps on the cover screen, while the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 only supports a few apps, such as Messages, WhatsApp, YouTube, Netflix and Google Maps. Both phones have widgets designed for the external screen.
Battery-wise, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 retains the same 3,700mAh capacity as the Flip 4, while the Razr 40 Ultra has a slightly larger 3,800mAh battery. However, it’s important to note that battery life also depends on each manufacturer’s hardware and software optimisation.
In conclusion, if you’re looking for a foldable smartphone that offers a more advanced coverage screen experience, the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra is a choice to consider. However, if you prefer a more compact design and specific features offered by Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 may better suit your needs.
