The Fossil Gen 6 was launched with the traditional round shape and large pushers of Fossil watches. However, considerable progress was made under the hood with the addition of a blood oxygen sensor, to name but one.
Despite these improvements, the Gen 6 was still not up to par in many areas compared to its contemporaries. Will the Fossil Gen 7, being its successor, be able to show itself to be more combative and to be ahead of smart watches like the Watch 5? We will see in this article.

Design: Fossil Gen 7 vs Galaxy Watch 5
The design of the Fossil Gen 7 is not expected to change hugely from its predecessors. The Fossil group relies entirely on circular bodies for its smart watch lineup, so don’t expect that to change for the Gen 7.
With the exact dimensions of the smart watch not yet released we can only speculate on it, it would measure between 40.2 and 49 x 45.5 and 53.67 x 13.5 and 15.6 mm and weigh between 60 and 140 g. It would also have the same range of colors as the Fossil Gen 6 namely, black, brown, gold, and purple to name a few.
The Galaxy measures 44.4 x 43.3 x 9.8 mm and weighs 33.5 g. It also has a reshaped curvature on the bottom, this creates a larger contact area between the watch and the skin, which according to Samsung, contributes to the accuracy of data collected by its biometric sensor.
The Watch 5 has a glass front (Sapphire Crystal) and has an aluminum chassis. For colors it is available in Graphite, Silver, Rose Gold, and Sapphire.
Fossil Gen 7 vs Galaxy Watch 5: Specifications and Performance
The internal components of the Fossil Gen 7 remain a mystery for now, but according to the FCC listing, the Gen 7 may still be able to charge wirelessly when the Gen 6 charger makes its debut. Hopefully, this means that the device’s fast charging capabilities will be retained.
The battery capacity of the Fossil Gen 6 wasn’t great. Even though the chipset is more efficient, It was only able to last 24 hours with moderate use, but the GPS reduced that to a fraction of that time. I think the Fossil Gen 7’s battery life could be better.
As for the Galaxy Watch 5, it has a 410mAh non-disassembling Li-Ion battery and supports 10W Qi wireless charging. The Watch 5 charges up to 45% in 30 min and has a battery life of 80 h, but lasts 20 h with GPS enabled.
The Gen 5 and Gen 6 had an AMOLED screen of 1.28 inches and a resolution of 416 x 416 pixels, for the Gen 7 we would agree to the same type of screen but with a higher resolution perhaps. The Watch 5 also has an AMOLED screen, but of 1.4 inches and 450 x 450 pixels as resolution with a density of 321 dpi.
Finally, if it is indeed available, we could see the debut of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 5100 processor. There is little evidence that the chipset will make an appearance in the Fossil Gen 7, but the signs are good. As for the operating system used, there’s a good chance Fossil will continue to use Google’s Wear OS for its Gen 7 smart watch.
The Galaxy Watch 5 also uses Google’s Wear OS and the One UI Watch 4.5 interface. On the processor side, we have a dual-core Exynos W920 with a frequency of 1.18 GHz. It also has 1.5 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. The Watch 5 also uses the Mali-G68 graphics processor.
Features and price: Fossil Gen 7 vs Galaxy Watch 5
The Gen 6 already had some pretty interesting features, such as the function that measures the level of oxygen in the blood, the fact that you can make phone calls on the watch itself thanks to the speakers and microphone, or the fact that it is waterproof up to 3 ATM, to name a few.
For the Gen 7 we would expect the same features and maybe even more and improvements on these features. The Galaxy Watch 5 on the other hand has almost the same features as the Fossil, unlike the Fossil, the Watch 5 is swim-proof up to 5 ATM, so you can use it even when you are in a pool.
Both watches have for example acceleration sensors, geomagnetic sensors, air pressure sensors, ambient light sensor, and will also allow you to measure your heart rate, monitor your calorie count, measure your sleep time and more. Both watches are perfect for fitness and outdoor use.
Let’s talk price now. We have a vague idea of where Fossil might be positioning its new flagship watch. The Gen 5 and Gen 6 were launched at €294 and €298, respectively. If the Fossil Group doesn’t load the Gen 7 with more expensive technologies, we expect a similar price around €299. The Galaxy Watch 5 44mm Bluetooth is sold new for an average price ranging from €269 to €329.
