Air Pods are an extraordinary technology and till date is matchless, reason why they are expensive. As wireless earphones, they perfectly integrate with all Apple products. But then, what do you do when your AirPods go missing or worse of all get stolen?
So, if the thief has an iPhone, iPad or a Mac, he can easily reset the product (AirPods) and customise it thereby preventing you from finding it. Unfortunately, you cannot lock your lost or stolen AirPods because it is not connected to a Wi-Fi. If you are lucky enough, you might locate it if it is nearby. Read the following for more details
What do you do if you lose your Air Pods?
Given that all Air Pods use Bluetooth technology to connect to an iPhone, or to other devices, it solely depends on that device. They are difficult to locate because it does not use Wi-Fi connection on its own.
That notwithstanding, don’t get anxious! Apple knows just how easy it is for Air Pods to get missing, they have therefore put a solution at our disposition. You can use the iCloud web site on your computer to find your Air Pods or the Find My iPhone application which is free of charge on App Store.
Meanwhile, the Apple device to which your lost Air Pod is linked must have an iCloud account. In addition to the Find My iPhone app, you will need this account to find your lost Air Pods. Apple has added the Find My Air Pods option to the Find My iPhone app and it automatically tracks your Air Pods.
Theoretically, it may seem complicated so; let’s immediately dive in to it.
How to locate your AirPods
First and foremost, let’s examine the iCloud method. If you are using the iCloud web site, follow these steps (if you are using the Find My iPhone app), start from the third step.
- Go to iCloud.com Web on your computer.
- Use your Apple ID to log into your account linked to your AirPods.
- Click on Find My iPhone or launch the Find My iPhone app on your iPhone
The Find My iPhone tab will launch the research process. Click on the All Devices tab and chose AirPods.
If the research pushes through, you will see your AirPods localized on the map. It will appear in the form of a green dot if it is online, meaning it is connected to your iPad or to an iPhone. If instead of green dots, it’s grey in color, it means it has not been located. We will come back to this later on.
Assuming that your AirPods have been found (green dot), click on the dot on the map. After that, click on the button which appears in the window.
Use that contextual window to click on Play Sound. This will produce a loud noise on your Air Pods. The sound is so thunderous to an extent that you will definitely hear it if it were nearby.
Check around you or at the spot where you are sure you lastly used it. This loud sound should help you locate your Air Pods. If you dropped your AirPods in different places and can only find one, put it in the AirPod case and use same procedure to find the other Pod.
What do you do if the Find My iPhone app does not possibly locate your AirPods?
If your AirPods appears in form of a grey dot, on the Find My iPhone app, its problematique. This means that the points you are seeing on the cart represents its last location or the device it was recently connected on for the last time on your phone or another device.
For more efficiency, you should have installed the Find My iPhone app in a preventive manner that is, before losing your AirPods (as if we are planning to lose it someday!) this is the best precautionary measure. Hence, it is best to configure immediately after buying, by installing the Find My iPhone app.
If the battery is completely flat or low, it will be hopeless. Alternatively, it could be out of reach. That’s also the case if it were stolen.
Lastly, your AirPods should always remain in its AirPod case where it’s safe.
Unfortunately AirPods are more complicated to locate than iPhone because iPhones are almost always connected and hence easy traceability. Finding your Air Pods depends on its proximity or nearness to your IOS device.
If your AirPods are stolen, you may never find it. Such is the tough reality. If you misplace just one of the Air Pods, or its case, you can simply buy an Apple replacement. You will need your Air Pods series number to transmit it to the Apple assistance.
This replacement will cost you supplementary charges.
